What makes it Nevada-specific?

At what range/distance do you plan to shoot?
What time of day to you plan to shoot?
What kind of reticle do you prefer?
What rifle is this for?
Which Vortex can you afford?

I thought about it and this is what I came up with: I'd pick a good one that worked for hunting rifles in Nevada.

Too many variables and unknowns to give a “good” answer...

But, I’m saving for a Henry Big Boy X..............in .357 for my needs.

Get a decent scope, and you’re pretty much good to go with a versatile firearm.

Lots of variables:

Purpose
Caliber
Likely terrain
Host (gun type)
Budget (don’t forget quality mount/rings

General hunting on a bolt gun between 1-400 yards?
Primary Arms is hard to beat for the money, their 4-16 classic is decently priced with an illuminated reticle and for a bit more their 4-14 is also illuminated and has a better reticle (has marked holdovers).

Vortex is also great value for the quality AND they have a lifetime warranty.

Self defense there’s more options than you can shake a stick at from dots to prisms to LPVOs. I run both red dots and a LPVO for different purposes.

If you have an astigmatism stay away from dots and stick with a prism. Dots are 1x prisms are either 1x 3x or 5x magnification. But you can also use a 3x magnifier.

Ram sent me.

Laser guided missile

I got a guy

Or just punch in the coordinates, GPS does the rest

Suicide drones though take the cake for sport.

They're costly at the range though

Rifle, Remington 700 in 7mm Rem Mag…. Extremely versatile when it comes to hunting.

Scope: Nikon, I’ve always had good luck with them, unfortunately they are gonna quit making rifle scopes.

Looking to hunt Elk, Mule Deer, and Prong Horn Antelope for meat.

I live in Nevada, that is the only reason I mentioned Nevada.

Terrain foothills and high desert.

No limit for budget, but no desire to spend just to spend.

Vision, 0 issues.

All the information I am able to answer based on my limited knowledge.

If I had rifles with scopes I would really like my Nikons (of course I don’t because I’m in California) and it is a shame they shut down the rifle scope production. (Which of course doesn’t not affect me because I’m in California)

If you are going "basics"???

Try a SAVAGE AXIS .308 BOLT ACTION IN THE
ARMY DIGITAL CAMO SYNTHETIC STOCK ..
IT COMES WITH A FACTORY MOUNTED WEAVER 3Xto9X
Power scope ..scope and mounts are free and come with the package...

Normally $359.99

On holidays it goes down to $299.99
Or $279.99 with rebates and sales ..

But nowadays , you gotta be in line super early because "limited supplies" means 3 or 4 in each caliber...
And hope you get their early enough???
Plus the tech happy millennials will Fu*k you over by pre ordering on line and pre- signing up on the # their at the counter once you get through to he door...

Dinosaur s like me stand ZERO CHANCES AT A $279-299 PRICE ...AND NEVER WILL.....

If you miss out on the .308's???

Then H.O.P. ON ANY 7 MM OR 6.5 CREED MORE THAT IS AVAILABLE...

ALL THREE WILL WORK FOR YOU...

7mm is a good Fudd cartridge……and wouldn’t leave much meat on an antelope.

6mm Creedemore, 6mm ARC, .260 or .270 would be much better for that weight differential…nice thing is modern bullets and loads are so much better than when dudes who drink Bush beer and pretended to like Arsenio Hall all shot 7mm. 700 is a good platform though.

First I am a big fan of Browning Arms............I own several. My choice of rifle would be a Browning X-Bolt .I am an even bigger fan of the 7mm-08 Remington as well as the 308 Win.Hunting the Nevada foothills to high desert my recommendation would be the 7mm-08...........flat enough for pronghorn with plenty enough energy to take down the largest of bull elk.For glass I am Leopold through and through........my suggestion here would be the Leopold VX-3HD in 3.5-10x50.That should be plenty of glass for long distance desert shots and a big enough aperture for low light conditions. Now practice,practice,practice..........hope that helps.

Any of the suggestions above will work, honestly, it is much more important to get your rifle and scope to the range for sighting it in and getting completely comfortable with the action. After that, learn how to use your scope at typical hunting ranges.

If you want something built for you consider having a Jarret rile built for you. There are plenty of custom rifle builders, but they are top-notch. https://jarrettrifles.com

I am also a Browning fan. Have an A-bolt II Medallion 30-06 with a Leupold scope 3.5-10 x 40. If I had the chance to do it over, I would spend less on rifle (composite stick vs. wood) and more on the optics. Can’t go wrong with Leupold but they are $$. Vortex has some very fine options at lower cost. Definitely spend a day at the range getting comfortable with the rifle and zeroing the scope. Pick a gun caliber that has a broad range of ammunition choices so you do not need to switch guns between game choices. Should only need to swap bullet grams

I always read every word of these threads.
Maybe it would seem counterintuitive, but I love that it makes me feel even more confidence in my total support of the right to bear arms.

A good rifle & scope combo for Nevada....

Way too big a state and too populous, You'd never finish. I would recommend a couple D5's, with like six or eight 500kt MIRVs each.

I've hunted all three of those species, in Arizona. Used a 70's model Ruger 77, in 30-06, an old unsexy round that's killed more than any of the mention "new" calibers. The rifle has been upgraded with a McMillian barrel and a synthetic stock, older model Leopold scope. Zero on this rifle is rock solid, never had a problem from Florida humidity to dry Arizona with it shifting. Make sure you have enough gun for the elk
