My daughter has an acoustic that she lost interest in so I got her an electric and an amp.

Watched and read and ended up getting her a IVY IJZ-300 and I’m blown away! Ended up ordering a Harley Benton SC550II which is on backorder…..I feel like a fool for what I paid for gear back when I played in public.

Anyone else get into messing around with cheap guitars?

Danelectro
When I was a kid a friend of mine renewed the trade mark in his name and bought a trailer full of remaining parts for assembly

We put em all together and sold most of em

He eventually sold the name to Evets Corp. For Millions & royalties still flow.

I have a few

Haven't taken it out of it's case in months. It sits in the corner of my bedroom staring at me.

One of these days it might come alive, team up with the front wheel motor e-bike conversion parts and garroted me in my sleep.

He was so cheap! The trade mark cost him like $1.73
He was so cheap he refused to pay a lawyer.
He drove to D.C. & did the trademark paperwork himself.
The trailer was more expensive than its contents.
full of thousands of useless headstocks (till I cut & assembled)
Necks were mostly junk.
The bodies were mostly the weird novelty stuff but there were a lot of longhorns that were desirable
The lipstick pickups were simple & excellent
Lots af luthering work involved but we cranked em out. For 5 years. Usually 10-15 a week.
Now
He gets the 1st 10 of everything made named danelectro
10% of profits & the original sale of the name was over 10 million.
All for less than a total of $1000.
He'd cry to you about how he's been ripped off by Evets though.

By any chance, this one?

It’s a pretty good book but lotta pictures so might disqualify it from the reading thread.

Well since this post I bought another Harley Benton (telecaster copy) and built a custom partscaster…I’m playing here and there but not as much as I should. But man, I can just stare at the custom Strat and smile. Warmouth makes a helluva neck.

I have owned about 3 or 4 beginner acoustic guitars over the years. The thought was that if I buy one, I'll teach myself and learn to play it.

They just ended up staring at me from the corner of the room. They have all been donated, one by one, to the local schools so someone can make it sing.

It's been about 3 months now without a guitar staring at me... might be time to buy one again so I can learn to play it

(Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results).

If your interested, the two of you can work out a deal... Herfing

Not quite the same but in my much younger days, I similarly thought that if I bought a guitar expen$ive enough, I’d force myself to play it. This was back in the ‘70s so at the time, I was looking to buy a pre-CBS Fender Strat. Prices from Manny’s of New York were $1,000 to $1,200. I didn’t really have the dough but figured if I could save my nickels and dimes like how I saved for my JBL speakers, I could pull it off. I mean, who didn’t want a pre-CBS Strat, right?

But after a few months, I kinda lost the urge. Did look at a Gibson Cherry Red ES335 12-string but the guy was asking $700 for it and while I had the money, really didn’t want a 12-string. Hadda take my buddy, Al, to test out the guitar so felt kinda weird that the guy that was looking to buy, didn’t even know how to play. Ultimately I put the money into my Road Runner (…hey, I was 20-something years old, long-term was not in my wheelhouse…).

Around this time, when I went to work at Records Hawaii and we sold Aria acoustic guitars, I vowed to learn a new chord every night I worked. However, without a guitar at home to practice on, that effort lasted for only about a month. I should have just bought one with my employee discount and who knows, I mighta actually become a real guitar player. Hindsight is 20/20.

In the late ‘70s I actually did buy (…at least in name…) a ‘60s era Telecaster with a Bigsby vibrato. Long story but I bought it so my friend Al could have it. Basically I fronted the purchase of the guitar and Al eventually paid me back. Think I strummed a chord or two before turning it over to him.

Have had other efforts to learn but even when my friend Vernon loaned me his Epiphone 335 and practice amp, I barely picked it up. Guess I’m just a wannabe player…. Brick wall

You can get really cool gear cheap these days. Harley Benton, Eart, Sire, IYV all make good instruments. And I love the new modeling amps as I’m not going to play a show, and with them I don’t have to buy pedals. Shoot with my Spark amp I can use a damn APP to change effects and levels and there’s a library of THOUSANDS of free files that people have created to mimic a tone of famous guitarists.

Really neat stuff.

Most of the time I just use headphones though.
