Some vacation pics.

Boy and I went swimming in the mid 50s yesterday. Pool was nice n warm, but it was painful to get any skin out of the water. We were in for about 2 hours, but I was noticing a change in attire for the guests at the bar next to the pool and made the call to get out at 49F. Trying to dry off soaking wet in windy 50F weather is unpleasant.

Cranked up the room thermostat to 80 and took a hot shower after.

I'm under contract till June. Signed a retention contract that benefits us both. I get a good chunk of money, they get guaranteed hours.

Downside is any pto hours need to be made up, so I have to do enough OT to cover the time I just took off. But it's paid at 2.5x on the makeup days so I'm not upset. Plus a 20% pay raise for 6mo.

On the covid side, their argument is they provide ppe, if you break protocol, it's on you. Otherwise, the illness wasn't work related. Just like if you hurt your back lifting a patient instead of finding the one crane in the hospital, get a harness from storeroom, and use the machine to lift the patient, you're not covered.

Look at this though.

Got a court order to prevent employees from quitting their jobs.

What a BS decision. Appleton’s community will be harmed by those employees NOT joining them. Where does this judge get off? They need to get emancipated.

Hope someone challenges the constitutionality of that decision and quick, so more employers get that idea in their heads.

At will employment too... they can be fired for no reason, but now have a court order that they can not quit.

I'd be calling off for personal reasons or mental health or whatever I could find that didn't require medical documentation until they fired me and then go take the job I was trying to get.

If you get burned out on what you are doing, you are never too old to switch to another profession or new position elsewhere.

Signed, Bucky (52 yr old/college kid jumping to a different career).

You still have your experience and knowledge in your back pocket, that stuff doesn't go away. It's an asset for any future positions.

I bet you could spin it off in a physical therapy gig. My nephew is a PT guy in the Fond du Lac, WI area. They can't get enough help and looking for more help. He does day travels in and around his area (maybe 45 min radius) for in home PT and he's home each and every night. There's a bunch of paperwork for insurance and stuff but its a regular day job.

My retirement plan is to have a welding/fabrication shop. I've done very well while officially unemployed with those skills I hope they don't leave me. I fund my vacations on overtime and small shop jobs. I can't take on the responsibility of a real shop yet/now/ever. If you're specialty you take only what you cam do, and the customer can pay for.

I have the land. 3 phase electric was quoted pretty cheap last time I asked. Have 200a 1phase now. Could setup a serious operation here, they quoted $1.2k for the lines for 3phase 11 years ago. Dunno what it looks like today

Build the barn and let my local fabrication rats go to town with a booth fee. I own 2 lots, so barn will be light commercial on lot 2. Have alot of buddies doing work from unpowered garages in thr city looking for shop space. I could have two shops and about 20 cars plus 2 RVs on my empty lot and still be fine.

33/59 this morning in LA. It should start off sunny with showers moving in late afternoon or early evening.

A little yard work in the plans today topped off with grilled steaks and a few drinks this afternoon.

Monday funday. It's 48 going to 69 and 70s all week. One last leaf roundup and I'm finished for this season. Joined a bunch of other Corvettes on a small road trip out to Carefree yesterday. Too much traffic to play leapfrog but we had a good time.

My speakers are floor standing JBL L65 Jubals. Three-way, 12” woofer, 5” mid-range and the 077 ring radiator dome tweeter. Both mid-ranges and tweeters are fine and meet spec. Because of a microorganism present in Hawaii, the foam around the woofer cone has disintegrated twice before. To give it a longer life, it was suggested that I do an accordion fold / pleat instead of the traditional foam. Paid more for it but it came out great and the speakers will probably outlive me.

So new cone, “splattered” on the backside to give it more rigidity as well as bring it to proper spec, and new gasket on the outer edge of the frame. The only bummer is that one of the dust caps got damaged in shipment but it doesn’t affect the sound so I guess when I show off my speakers, I’ll only pull off one of the grills. BigGrin

Later on this week I’ll be bringing the other components up from storage and putting everything together. Gonna buy some 12 gauge copper speaker wire and dump the ones I originally used 45-ish years ago.

Once I fire it up then I’ll decide whether or not I want to upgrade some of the components as well as getting a turntable again. Also gonna build a couple of carpeted speaker stands to get them off the floor and maybe even angle it a bit.

I know not everyone will appreciate my excitement but that’s totally cool. I’ve always preferred music coming out of big speakers rather than headphones so it’s just a personal choice. As they used to say, different strokes for different folks.

I hear ya Conan.

I regret ditching my big cabinet speakers. I had some floorstanding fronts similar setup to yours but when I did the basement theater/gaming room I sold them off for a big Polk sub and 5 channel small speakers. Doesn't sound as good when I crank music through them at high volume. But I rarely have the house to myself to blast music anymore so I put my money into the truck's stereo. I've always done an aftermarket stereo in my vehicles, the Ram got the biggest practical one yet. I've done some crazy bass focused builds, but this one was the most well rounded with more focus on sound quality than volume.

I run Polk rti a7 towers at the front
Polk OWM5s for the sides
and Polk XT15 bookshelfs at the rear
Bose sound bar
Sony 10" sub at the front
Acoustech 10" sub at the rear
(Acquired over the course of about 5yrs)

All angled towards the sweet spot which is my seat on the couch. Good for both tunes and cinema

My truck came with a 10 speaker alpine stereo system with a subwoofer. It's loud. It sounds great.

I've got pioneer components in the living room running through Bose 601's. It's loud. It sounds great.

I've got Klipsch Promedia 2.0 connected to my puter. It's loud. It sounds great.

Got a court order to prevent employees from quitting their jobs.

The judge changed his mind. Said Thedacare did not meet the requirements of the injunction.

Couple inches of light and fluffy snow overnight. Weather forecast calls for Low 30's today. Personal forecast calls for homework/layabout day.

Snow plow just made the trip down the street to clean up the inch or so of snow overnite. Got things to do today and tomorrow so I'll have to be sure I can get up the driveway. May go above freezing today, but tomorrow its back in the freezer with winds making for sub-zero wind chills.

.48/51 in LA with 100% chance of rain today.

This past week I noticed that the freezer in the kitchen frig did not seem to be functioning properly. I mentioned it to the wife and we went and looked at new units on Sat afternoon. After further research, she empowered me to purchase a new unit yesterday afternoon and it will be delievered on Feb 5. As luck would have it, our current unit which is 14 yrs old, died sometime yesterday afternoon or last night. Thank goodness for the beer frig and upright freezer in the garage. The upright is several years old and I may go ahead and replace it in the near future before it goes tits up.

The almost 70 is acceptable. Preferable. The 37 is a bit too chilly for my liking.

Third season, episode 9 of Game of Thrones.
Two of my three favorite characters are slain in epi 9.
Have also heard the conclusion of the series is disappointing.

Do I pull the plug at this point?

Nah, see it through. Even though it was quickly killed off by the writers there are points of even the last episode worth watching.

Then you can gripe about it like the rest of us.
