That's the message I'm hearing.

I get told that that I'm soft for not appreciating being called derogatory terms for my race.

If you're Black, would you be ok with someone casually using the n-bomb?

If you're Jewish, would you be ok with someone casually throwing around anti-Semitic terms for you and yours?

No, you wouldn't, you have a f*ckin name for it, maybe if us Natives had a word for it, it would make it less ok.

Ben, some here have a small idea as to the treatment of native Americans.

1) The keystone pipeline is build on sacred land, probably over Graves.

2) At one time there were roughly 10M native Americans, as of 1900 there were 300K. That was genocide as well as ethnicide.

3) Bounties were paid for scalps.

4) Blankets were distributed with Smallpox on them.

Admittedly much more has occurred, but I am woefully ignorant because history books minimalize native American treatment.

If you want a good book to read about the relationships between the tribes and white settlers, their conflicts and the internal conflict within the groups Empire of the Summer Moon was fascinating to me.

It is well researched and peels back the layers of two cultures which were very different. Each side (if you want to call them that) has enough blame to carry on their own. Quanah Parker is the perfect real life character to show how complex the whole thing is. Impressed by the author.

I don't know about anyone else, but I would think that being called a racist would be worse than being called an indian. Especially if one were supposedly proud of their native American heritage.

Whistle if you come from The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina at 6.25% of Cherokee blood you would be recognized as Cherokee, every other group of Cherokee would not recognize you. I am just stating fact. Look it up if you want.

Never did the DNA thingy. I do have a book on the genealogy of my family on my paternal grandmother's side that she wrote.

Her and her brother spent a lot of time in their retirement tracing the family tree and genealogies the old fashioned way. Following birth certs, death certs, marriage certs through town records and archives. Her and my grandfather traveled all around the US following doing this - following leads getting copies of original documents, newspaper articles, pictures, grave stone rubbings and such. It started out as a hobby and then became a passion and reason to travel the US during retirement.

After she collected everything she could, she compiled her research and wrote a book so her efforts wouldn't be lost. The book was entered into the Library of Congress, Catalog Card Number: 80-7044. I'm listed on page 113.

The earliest records she was able to find on that branch of my tree trace back to Roxbury, CT 1675.
