Funny thing. I am 43.75% Danish Viking, 43.75% Germanic Viking, 6.25% Cree, and 6.25% Ethiopian. I am a Viking, not a Cree, not an Ethiopian. My primary and by far largest percentage is Viking.

You need to have a discussion with your inner-self. You just labeled yourself as Viking. You should be celebrating the diversity within yourself. To diminish your Cree and Ethiopian portions of yourself, you are being anti indian and anti black.

Which means you are racist against yourself.

You need to go onto Twitter, call yourself out, de-platform yourself, so the racist part of you is silenced from our society.

Let us know when you are successful. Wait...... if you truly are successful at being de-platformed, you won't have a platform to to tell us you've been de-platformed.

Hmmm. I'm going to have to get back to you on this. Giving myself a headache.

so, things have calmed down, for now.

There's a lot of stuff that happens here for fun, for razzing and stuff. Normal society (that excludes us) does not condone it.
We don't care. It's fun. It reduces daily stress, at least for me anyway.

There's also been a few times things have heated up here though, when stuff crossed lines, or an individual had a personal reason to object...for example (staying away from race for now) a few years ago a few folks had reason to request we no longer use the words or "suffix" retard/tard...as in Libtard or whatever.

One or two may have had children called that, two (including me) I can think of had wives or others in the family who worked with children with various special needs and/or special education.

Even though I see myself as a liberal, I used to say Libtard until asked to stop, and probably should have known better due to my wife's career and others close to me, so I eventually switched to Libturd, hoping not to be offensive to any chits that may read my posts (I keed, I keed). No big deal, easy for me to stop.

But it's pretty obvious when stuff goes beyond azzhattery, beyond simply thick-coat-required protection, and when someone actually feels their personal line of playfulness has been crossed or their personal dignity has been violated, I tend to believe them.

That said, it may be fair game to call out someone for doing what they object to from others. And it's certainly likely that there is enough of a relationship between people that some wild words are actually fun...for example, in the birthday thread for jespear, John the birthday boy referred to me as a Kosher K U N T. How would others know that is acceptable in our relationship?

But had I objected, I'd expect him to back off, not blame me for being offended.

Not sure where I'm going with this, just started typing and it led to this point. I fully expect some razzing and some support and maybe even some serious comments telling me to stop preaching...all will be considered valid commentary by this Libturd...(see what I did there?)

WB has a lot of BS about not being a racist, but I don't buy it - he hates everybody at one time or another. I'm sure he will have more fairy tales about his not being a racist (tho he seems to have compiled a lot of questionable research).

Tony,
Nothing personal, but if you are going to call WB (or anyone else) a racist and have research to prove it- either post it on this thread or make a new thread up. I am defending both WB and against the over-use of the term by other Cbid folks way, way too often. I just think that, at a bare minimum, should be a predicate for anyone making that accusation with that word because it is a very serious one that no one deserves to be called.

That all you got? You jumped on the ride to defend someone's racism... your chivalry is noted... maybe he'll let you blow him as a reward.

You should really learn how to pick your battles...

I see where you are going and respect the share and the soft ask. Respect you, your thoughts and opinion on the matter. That said, I am less than likely to comply.

Over the past two years especially, more and more people (usually from left of center) have been clamping down on words. What can be said, not said, and how things need to be said. Cancel Culture has driven a deep and deepening wedge in our society. Some are even changing definitions to words (what does vaccinated mean now? for an example).

Am hopeful but not confident civility returns and respectful disagreements can blossom into enriched engagement. Engagement leads to progress. That is the best path forward. If I we are lucky enough to get there, the process will be resemble sausage making.

Being asked to use a word or phrase is like someone asking me not to smoke cigars.

Can I ask you to not smoke that cigar?
Yes, you can.
Would you put out your cigar?
No.

All good. I can't recall being so offended that I considered walking from here, and that's coming from someone in the political minority here.
I kinda like the exposure to views I'd probably never have heard hanging around with only those in agreement with me, and have to admit some readings here have somehow opened my ears too.
I wish all the line crossing stayed good natured, but that would probably get bland and boring and even I might drift away.

Great line, btw...I am less than likely to comply...HA!

going back 30 maybe 40 years ago, I became concerned/irritated/whatever the word then was for "woke", about human mascots for pro and college sports teams, not so much ancient or extinct groups or non-race groups (think Pirates, Spartans etc) more like Native Americans that were simply invisible yet very much alive.

At that time, Sports Illustrated had articles about the same subject. I posted here about that stuff several years ago, mentioned about SI suggesting the outrage that would ensue if a team was called the Detroit Negroes (that was the word then, so maybe 50 years ago) with an insulting caricature of a wide-nosed scowling African American team mascot...or the New York Jews with a big nosed old white guy holding a fistful of cash...

...and then compare those unfathomable situations to the Cleveland Indians with a drunken, red-faced, idiotic looking "Injun" mascot. Never mind the baloney about honoring the brave warriors of lore, they really used a cartoon joke.

So that was my post. BUT I am an azzhat member of these forums and I do own a heavy coat. And I know I can be more than a little self righteous...

TW stepped up and addressed my indignation as expected...he ridiculed me! Loaded with sarcasm that screamed he understood. But I gotta tell ya, it was hysterical. He even sent me (I couldn't believe they exist) a miniature Offiicial Major League Baseball approved Cleveland Indians yarmulke, available in official souvenir shops around the Major Leagues! Can you imagine? I think he also knew about many Jews referring to themselves as MOT (Members of the Tribe).

I know his stock has dropped here in recent times, but it should be be known that part of his career is working very closely on health issues and hospital services with and for the many Native American nations (I am ignorant on the correct term) in the US...or something like that.

Not sure how my story will be taken by BGZ but hoping for the best.
