For Cohiba smokers, which do you think are the best smokes?

There are so many versions: Red dot, Primo, Black dot, Macassar, Nicaraguan, Royale, etc.

Thanks!

Um... There are approximately 10 different varieties at the mothership. Why not just look them up yourself?

Cohibas are the best in your opinion?
Congratulations! You have a budget friendly palate.
Just don’t buy too many............there’s a chance you’ll like them less some time down the road.

Cuban Cohibas aren’t worth the coin.

Non Cuban Cohibas are worse.

I need to frame this and put it right next to the "buy cigars" button on my computer...

I haven't smoked any in a while, but I found the red dot to be a rather strong smoke with little if any flavor. I have no idea what they are going for as I have little interest in them. If I saw them for a buck I might buy a few, just to see if they got any better.

naming Cohiba non-Cuban cigars is like putting the Blue Ribbon label on Pabst...

and smoking them is like...

My opinion of the red dot is one is good. Next sucks. Third isn’t like the first but decent. They seem to be a bit all over the place. I do have a few. Smoke em every once in a while. The black is decent. Prefer the red over the black. Macassar isn’t half bad honestly. But it’s been months. I think I’ve tried all of em. Red maybe my favorite.

Ranked:
Too expensive
More expensive
Very expensive
Way too expensive
Outrageous

Though I'll smoke the Nicaragua for some relaxing yard work times

So you're saying you like the Nic. the best out of the brand? You've tried them all?

I think the Red Dots are better for my taste. Never tried the Mass. though. Was hoping some Cohiba fans would hop on here and weigh in. We'll see.

The Mass appears to be more expensive than the Red. I've not tried it. I like the Red the best and the white Conn wrap. I don't care for strong cigars.

Relax Francis.

Specification needed. I went on another cigar forum and didn't specify the difference and people thought I was talking about Cohiba cubans.

You might have had counterfeits. The genuine Cohiba Churchill Esp. is amazing. Smooth, not bitter, draw is impeccable.

The non-cuban Cohiba Red Dots are excellent, not as good as a cuban, but still superb.

Since you trashed them, I'd like to hear 3 cigar brands and versions --you-- think are better (curious if I've tried any).

Maybe, but I've been smoking for a long time. I was introduced to the Red Dots because it's part of the Opulent Churchill special carried by Cigar.com. https://www.cigar.com/p/opulent-churchill-collection-samplers/1465478/

The Red Dots are not only more expensive than the other 6 brands, but they are superior.

The Rocky Patel Royal comes in second.

I've tried Opus X, etc. and I still can't find a smoke better than Red Dot Cohibas (non cuban).

They are just as good as the Padrone 1964, but those are outrageously high. And I've never seen them discounted on here.

Of course, smoothness is what defines a good smoke for me opposed to bitterness.

Um... takes time to do that. Was hoping there's a Cohiba aficionado (or even a seller) on here who could rattle them all off and give commentary on each. Expense doesn't always mean superiority.

Thank you. I presume it's this one: http://www.cigargeeks.com/

By the way, Red Dot churchills usually run around $23 per cigar. I don't think that's cheap for a cigar.

Only on CigarBid can you get them for much less. But from what I've seen as I've priced cigars, $23 per cigar is pretty expensive. Only a small number are beyond that price.

KOTC, in LazyBones' defense, I think he was saying that CBID is the ONLY place he can get them for less than $23 per stick. I checked CI and that Tom Son place, and they were all north of $17 a piece, but the Page place has them cheap (as I pointed out above), as do others I am sure.

I think the issue here is that LazyBones just wants us to do all the work for him and find him some deals...

They’re all over the board as far as strength. Try those cigars. I think you’d like each of them at least as well. Damn sure less then 20$ a stick Too left row of my personal smoke now humidor. That said I smoke cohiba occasionally. Just not something I’ll buy next time. 3$ is max I’d pay for them.

The only General Cohiba I can say I enjoyed was the Comador many years ago and likely my tastes have changed and I wouldn't like it as much today. I did prefer very mild cigars back then.

I've had probably a dozen other General Cohibas and they're all very underwhelming especially considering the price.

I have a red dot somewhere, a patient of mine gifted me a sampler humidor set a couple years back and it had one in there. I don't think I've smoked it yet, I rarely touch anything that takes more than 30 minutes to smoke. I pretty much only smoke PCRs and baitfish anymore.

Agreed keep looking at lots here and check out the Page place. Do NOT pay double digit prices for those things.

Interesting. So I’m wrapping this cohiba red up. Oddly I got what tony Graz mentioned earlier in this post. Pretty strong with not a whole lot going on. I’ve had this cigar a year or so. I still have 7-9 of these left. This is the first one I’ve been able to call strong. I’ve smoked a couple of these that had a sorta graham cracker thing going on from start to finish. Those I kinda liked. This one wasn’t very good. I’ll be fair and say this particular cigar was just a dud. But if they’re asking 20 bucks. Well it’s just not my cigar.

I smoked a Cohiba black tonight because everybody is raving about red dots, didn't want to be left out. This one was from Jake, and it was good. I enjoyed it, but nothing stood out as remarkable. I wouldn't pay retail for it.

I had forgotten that I bought a 5ver of those about a year and a half ago. I smoked one at the time, and this one seemed stronger than I remember. Both burned a long time.

I'll smoke the other 4 I have left and be happy with that. I looked at my old orders, and I paid $17 for 5, so $3.40 apiece. But I probably paid more than necessary because I wanted to try them and was already ordering other stuff.

Kinda same here but I think my spidey senses start to tingle when the prices hit $12.

Edit: So I took my Excel file and sorted it by cost. On a cursory look, it seemed that the majority of $12 to $19 seegars that I bought from local B&Ms were disappointing. 'Course it doesn't help that our cigar tax is 50% so that would bump up the retail cost. Also too, most of the singles I purchased locally, were done much earlier in my smoking "career" so I was buying mostly on the salesperson's recommendations. Of the $12 to $19 cigars that I purchased online, I liked or loved the vast majority. Most were either highly rated, close to "sure things" or buys of cigars that I already knew and wanted more of. In the $20+ range (...a sharp dropoff in the number purchased than the lesser category...), there were only a few that I thought were great smokes. The majority were good to very good cigars with only a blah or two. Maybe the Cost-to-Expectation ratio was too high? Think

I made plain that I was talking about the NORMAL price. Not the CigarBid price.

A box goes for $592.25. If you were to buy a Red Dot churchill in any cigar shop or from Cigar.com or Cigars.com, you're paying over $20 per churchhill. Tons of other cigars are far less expensive - regular price.

They are even more expensive than Padron 1964s.

My point is that this isn't a cheap cigar. Not by any means.

If so, which one? I see Gordo and Robusto or Toro. I don't see a churchill.

Cao Brazilia is a decent smoke. We all talk trash. One cigar I keep in multiple sizes is don pepin blue. I have a box of toro box of corona and a box of lancero. Try toro if you like toros. Regardless of price I like that one. I like the melanio quite a bit but I seem to smoke the blue more often. Your mileage may vary. If I run out of any one of those cigars I order more. Melanio is pretty robust. That’s the point of that cigar in my opinion.

Bones, read more and type less.

Goolge stuff instead of just asking other people to provide you info.

Lot's of great and knowledgable people here, maybe introduce yourself in the General Discussion section.

Also, I started a thread a while back inthe Cigar section where I named three cigars I liked and asked for other recommendations. Feel free to post a few you like there and ask for yourself.

I've found non-Cuban cigars that have tried to capitalize on their Cuban namesakes to be inferior. Not once did I say, "wow, this is better than the Cuban _______" They are made by totally different operations.

List of non Cuban brands I've had: Bolivar, Cohiba, Hoyo de Monterey, H. Upmann, Montecristo, Partagas, Punch, Trinidad. And some Cubans are less expensive than their non-Cuban counterparts.

Only one non-Cuban brand did I like well enough to buy more: San Cristobal, their regular line, the mild Elegancia, and the Revelation...but none were superior to the Cuban San Cristobal.

Cuban tobacco all seem to have significant flavor differences as compared to tobaccos grown elsewhere. DED calls it the "Cuban twang," a hard to describe flavor profile, but is apparent in all Cuban cigars. Many cigars smokers enjoy the twang, but some don't. I enjoy it on occasion, but smoke and enjoy many more non-Cuban cigars...ymmv

Kinda like Gurkha cigars.
Auction prices will tell you what botl think they are worth.........about $3 or so.
If you like em, that’s all that matters.
If you are paying $5-6 a piece?
Lots of other stuff in that price range that is better................imho of course.

Ask question.

Don’t read answer.

Say what you were going to anyways.

$23 ref dot? Let me guess you don’t even ask your local shpo to spit on the tip before they put it in do you?

Cohiba Red Dot is a Cameroon wrapped medium cigar that’s overpriced DRASTICALLY @$5.

Now I smoke fakes? No your mom said they’re real and FYI they’re spectacular. I don’t think ANY Cubans are worth the $ right now and domestic cigars are overpriced this is currently NOT a buyers market.

Three better brands or three better Cameroon wrapped cigars?

Why bother you don’t read anyways.

Cameroon? Fuente Hemingway, Don Carlos and LFD Cameroon Cabinet.

Brands? Long list….General and Atladis suck Jonsie’s dirty taint.
Tatuaje
Illusione
Fuente
Perdomo
Aladino
Eiroa
LFD

Of all the domestic Cohibas the only one Is even smoke is the Dominican and it’s INSANELY overpriced.
