What causes poverty?

Nothing, it’s the original state, the default and starting point.

The real questions is…

What causes prosperity?

The material amount seems about right for a very nice bathroom. The labor seems outrageous.

Prosperity comes from education (through high school), individual reading and other skills, guts/balls, hard work, long hours, treating others well and a sprinkling of luck (which some people make on their own).

You said it takes testicular fortitude.

I recognize you as lacking this attribute.

Gene, only some are born into poverty. You can be born rich, middle class, or poor. Your are born and your parents are homeless. You are born and your parents are English royalty. 2 rather different circumstances. Quite different circumstances. That kid born to the homeless couple could go on to be a billionaire. The kid who is royalty could end up on the street as a drug addict. How likely do you think they end up that way in reality?

Brewha, opportunity is real, you make your own luck through hard work, skin color isn't in the equation. If you are a minority and have the same qualifications you get the job, not the white guy. Let's talk welfare reform, it keeps people in bondage no matter what their skin color. I am not talking about doing away with it, on the contrary, probably spending more. Good hospitals, good schools, good trade schools, improving neighborhoods. A definition of insanity is to keep doing something that doesn't work. I would love to take the money spent on welfare and Elon Musk reimagine how to best use it to get the most value out of a dollar. Truely I think the system holds people back.

By "system" he means democrats liberal, progressive, enslavement policies. Making rock bottom more comfy.

Hard work and making your own luck are key ingredients. Skin color is not in the equation??? What world do you live in?
If you never saw racism or sexism in the work place it’s because you never worked or did not look. Cause it’s there Bro. Big as life and twice as ugly.

Yes people fall into taking a “free” life in poverty. Yes people defrauded the system - some are really, really good at it. Maybe they even go into office….

While you look at reforming welfare, consider if we could defeat the waste of wealth concentration.

Clearly a different one that you do.

If you want to talk racism, supremacy, systemic racism, race prejudice then we can talk. Those are all real and there are others.

But poverty doesn't know color. Go to Appalachia, lots of white people live in poverty there. Go to any major urban area, homelessness knows no color. Go look at drug addicts, they come in all colors.

If you want to talk about the second paragraph then skin color absolutely does.

I know how you love videos, Brewha... spend the less than 6 minutes and watch.

And before you shoot the messenger... consider the actual message and if you disagree with it, tell me why?

Fair enough.

Poor people do not come exclusively from a single cause. Nor do the prosperous.

Welfare can be a trap - we should work to better that.
Inequality is damaging - we should work to better that too.

It is a good question; what caused prosperity.

Maybe:
Perseverance
Opportunity
Luck

Top three anyone?

Just wondering MACS - Are you capable of summarizing or stating your own option on wealth concentration?

I went to see my doctor… Doctor Vidi-boom-ba. Yeah…I told him once, “Doctor, every morning when I get up and look in the mirror I feel like throwing up. What’s wrong with me? He said, “I don’t know, but your eyesight is perfect.”

Where/how do we formulate our opinions? Life experiences. Reading. Learning. Some of the videos I post are a summarization of lots of reading and research. The author of that video wrote a book on it.

Did you come to your opinions through nothing but meditation and PFM? (pure fkn magic)

Nope... you lived, you learned, you read, you spoke with others... and then you thought about it (hopefully) and came to your own conclusions.

cause of poverty aside, a better question may be what perpetuates it in our life time?

part, and I really am saying part, of how a lot of poverty or inability to achieve wealth in America has happened is not widely known and not well publicized.

Home ownership is a major part of wealth building...understand that "wealth" is not the same as being independently wealthy, but simply being free from assistance.

How many here (or your parents, grandparents) have personally been excluded from consideration for buying homes in certain neighborhoods between 1900 and 2000?

How many here (or your parents or grandparents) met all qualifications for mortgages but were denied due to "red lining" (look it up) and forced to buy in designated neighborhoods?

How many here (or your parents or grandparents) served our country proudly in the military during World War II yet were not allowed to enjoy the benefits of college funds or discount housing benefits upon returning to the states?

Anyone aware that the GI Bill was for whites only?
Unfathomable, right?

How many here had parents or grandparents working for industries like the railroads but were not allowed union membership?

Just part of what happened and yet we blame the victims?

What's amazing is how many have been able to overcome these intentional obstacles. Truly some of the greatest America has ever produced.

How successful would succeeding generations of your family be today under those unfair limitations designed to produce failure...without at least some of the small inheritances passed down because of home ownership?

It's ugly. It happened. Fact.

They don't wanna hear that sh*t Frank. They don't want to know real history... just the nice tidy little history that fits their world view best...

That's all they want to hear... luckily they have plenty of people to tell them what they want to hear. It's mental slavery.

Frank, a home is a terrible way to gain wealth. A home on average appreciates. 3.5% to 3.8% annually. The average appreciation of the DOW average is what, about 14 %. Every dime of equity you have in the house above 20% should be borrowed against and invested. Then you make 10% on your money not 4 %. It is not quite that simple, but that is a close enough example for this discussion. Rich people do this all the time. They borrow against their assets and, invest and live off of the borrowed money. It is entirely legal, though not ethical in my mind. They only pay taxes on the money they pay on the loans each year. Otherwise I agree with the rest of your post.

True, we divested from a few stocks. Inflation and national debt is going to cause a market correction this year. I bought AJ Gallagher say 18 years ago. I paid about 30 per share, I sold for about 150 a share. Great stock and company, but hugely overvalued. We sold a few more like that.
