Pretty simple, either you want / like beans in your chili or you don't.

Simple answer to a simple question: with beans.

I like mine rather spicy - enough to put some sweat on my brow. With that said, I make the batch middle of the road on hotness since others that eat it aren't as tolerant to heat. I add additional hot sauce later to my servings to achieve the desired sweat factor.

I'm with Bucky on this one. Yes - beans in chili. And yes - there is no such thing as TOO spicy for me. I, like Bucky, will usually make two batches of chilli for my family - one for the 4-alarm-fire loves and one for everyone else.

Don't like kidney beans. Don't care for it to be too spicy either. And pasta in chili is a definite no.

A little melted cheddar cheese on top with a couple of tortillas is good for me.

I agree. Maccaroni is a definite no in chili. I would never object to cheddar or tortillas with my chili. ThumpUp

Beans are a condiment to be served on the side or it’s not chili.

I am not sure what they are that we use, but they are called chili beans.

In a bowl, with. On a hot dog, without. I go both ways

I also challenge Mike's claim and guessing I can change his mind with 8-10 drops of Satan's Blood. (Per bowl, not pot. I'm not allowed to add flavor to the pot anymore)

I like mine HOT as well but there is a point that it stops being flavor and is just tolerance. I am likewise banned from spiking most anything that is being cooked.

Huh... you guys are just an unending source of inspiration.

Guess I'm making chili today. With beans, tyvm. And yeah, the shredded cheddah on top is nice.

It's your chili, make it the way you like, it's good either way, but one is chili and other is bean soup.

Instead of beans, try using can of hominy, it's a no gas alternative and the corn flavor complements chili nicely. Hominy can take the place of corn masa flour used in many chili recipes to add corn flavor and thicken up the chili, just run a can of hominy through a blender/food processor.

I like beans in my chili (my vote)... I like chili without beans (still chili)...

I just like chili.

Hotter the better (as long as it doesn't use extract sauce, that stuff tastes like sh*t, has a weird twang to it).

Like Mike, Bucky and DED, I like it hot af!

I don't have a tolerance level.

Agreed. For me, spices and/or hot sauces are used to add another dimension of flavor and not just there to up the Scoville value.

Another vote for beans!

Chili without beans is pasta sauce. We make ours with our own canned stewed tomatoes and salsa (for the spicy taste), chili beans, kidney beans, pinto beans and black beans. We also use our home made sausage for the meat (ground beef and pork mixed with spices) . Cheese on top when served is good and tortillas are another great addition. No two batches are ever identical but they are all good!!!

With, otherwise it's no fun later in the day having fart contests with the kids. Unless one of you jackalopes puts 8 or 10 drops of a$$-on-fire sauce in it... Then, it would be fun later on, in a "colonoscopy-fun" kind of way.

with beans, and fairly spicy, I also like to add an extra cup or two of farts, just for the

entertainment value later on...Chef Full of crap

I was sitting there eating chips and cheese with Daves Reaper sauce... I'm complaining to my wife... I'm like this stuff doesn't taste like other reaper sauces, I was like... kinda makes my throat feel weird... has a nasty aftertaste.

As I'm dumping the sh*t on every bite, my wife says...

The bottle says use one drop at a time dumb azz...

That's when I learned I don't care for extracts.

How long have I been posting here, I don't care what other people think, especially when they are wrong. :-"

After some consideration, it's apparent some of you bean lovers are fond of your own farts.

Extract sauces are garbage.

Also chili without beans is either a hot dog topping or sloppy Joe filling.

Got the chili going... 1 lb ground beef, 1 pound diced chuck roast, sauteed with garlic, onions and all the spices. Put it all in the crock pot for 6 hours with all the other ingredients... including beans. BigGrin

Never understood the non-bean eaters...

They have protein, and they give you a gift you can share with the whole family.

Me three.

Plus, as a relocated Los Angeles native to NorCal, I really do miss Tommy's Burgers. They invented the chili burger and didn't need beans to do it.

You're using a crock pot, putting canned beans in (hint: they're already cooked) and then cooking them for 6 more hours....

I'll bet your chili makes awesome wallboard paste.

God I miss a good Tommy's Burger............messy as **** but the messier the better and the chili is outfuqqingstanding

Beans are just filler..........real cattle trail chili was about showcasing Texas beef.In New Mexico its more about showcasing chili peppers, green or red.

The only place that showcases the beans in their chili is NEW YORK CITY.................... and MACS crockpot

Shawn you have blasphemed real chili in so many ways...........Ima pray for ya BigGrin

You want some good chili............drop all those bullschit recipes with beans,Turkey and **** ing kale???

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 pounds boneless beef chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes
2 large onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon dried mexican oregano
3 cups beef broth
1 cup tomato sauce
1 cup diced tomatoes
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Sear the beef in the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat until browned. Do this in batches if necessary.

After the beef is browned well, add the onions to the pot and saute for 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Add all the remaining ingredients except 1/8th cup of the chili powder and bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. One half hour before chili is ready add the other 1/8th cup chili powder, add water if necessary to make it thicker or thinner, as desired.
