It’s a tough one. He was never considered one of “THE” best backs in the league his entire career. Kind of a poor man’s Emmit Smith, only slower, less elusive, and not as good a pass catcher.
Was incredibly durable, some of that just plain luck, some due to his build and running style, some due to genetics and good training, etc.
He compiled “great” career numbers..........in baseball he’d be called a “compiler”.
Steve DeBerg was an average quarterback who threw for a ton of yards during a lengthy career, but he isn’t HOF material.
Is Frank Gore HOF worthy?
