Saving tainted cigars due to red cedar

Long story short, some Carillos and AFs got mixed with American aromatic cedar (I think red cedar) that my friend wanted to dump due to taste -- 4 boxes total!!

I figured I'd try save them so I took them all (free) and then smoked one.. man that was bad!! Can these be saved/salvaged? Don't want to waste these $$$

He said it was in a cedar cabinet 4 days. One thing for sure, it isn't a spanish cedar cabinet.

These are expensive cigars. I'd hate to throw them away since they are mine now. I've quarantined them in a separate glass box for now...

You should set them all on fire. One at a time.

I have not been here long, but I think this is the first thread I have seen with "taint" in the title...

Well played.

I dunno if you wanna do this but I'd go a step further and keep them individually separated. Maybe in Ziploc bags with a Boveda? Think

In all honesty, I think I would want as much air exchange as possible. Put them (and only them) in a giant tupperadore with humidification and open the lid and re-fresh the air inside daily.

I don't think you can directly rely on any advice because none of us would have done something so stupid with ANY cigar EVER.

Having said that, your only chance is to "air them out" on a table for a few days to see if the taint has even dissipates enough to where it is worth any extra effort.

I'd only give it 2-3 days personally, and if they weren't showing real big improvement, I'd chuck 'em. Life is too short to worry about tainted cigars

Give them time. They’ll come around. I like the idea of giving them as much air as possible.

Iceberg lettuce will take it right out make sure it is fresh and only use iceberg. Do not use much and put it in a big Tupperware container. You will need to change it out every 12 hrs . Then I leave it open for a couple hours. Then replace with lettuce and do the whole process over again. If you do this 3 to 4 times it will get the nasty flavor out . Then you will need to let the cigars rest for 2 weeks . Then they ahould be good to go.

Maybe try either charcoal or baking soda to absorb the smell?

i would write it off and move on but for someone that really wants to try i would use a large air tight container with Boveda and a few boxes of Baking soda to absorb the oder/taste. may not work but it does in a fridge so maybe worth a shot. i would let them sit for a few days then exchange the air and do it again. rinse repeat for a while and test another. note that the boveda will be trash after as they will absorb the oder as welll so you dont want to add that to good cigars.
