Bucky,
Do you have your NE Wisconsin vaca dates yet?

Fly out from Boston July 20th to Milwaukee. Then fly out of Milwaukee to Boston on the 29th. I'll have my 2 teenagers and an elderly person in tow (my brother's mother in law). Brother picking us up in Milwaukee then crash in Waupun.

Then me and the kids going up to GB for a few days to visit my folks (probably the 21st to the 25th). Leave my brother's mother in law behind in Waupun.

While in GB prolly do a tour of GB area - a day at Lambeau field and Hall of Fame tour and stuff. Kid's they haven't seen it yet and, let's face it, what else do you do in GB? Grampa and Grandma will spoil them and buy whatever they want.

Then back down to Waupun at my brothers house. Going to the EAA airshow Wed the 27th. I'm super psyched on the air show. On Wed they have the standard 4 hr daytime air show then another 2 hr one at night with fireworks and $hit.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/eaaairventureoshkosh/albums/72157719594588542

We have some tentative plans while in Waupun. Maybe visit the Horicon Marsh for a day hike. Maybe hook up with cousins. Maybe go to my brothers shooting range and shoot at some targets.

It's rather fluid. Dates on when we will be in GB are TBD but looking like July 21 or 22 until 25th or 26th.

Got one course of pavers installed and then the rain came.

Wife was gone doing something so the boy and I went grocery shopping.

Putting stuff away and smelled burning electric. Couldn't find it. Smell was stronger in the basement but nothing seemed off. Started unplugging things to be safe. Got to the dehumidifier and noticed a lot of heat coming out and a nice burn mark on the block wall. No smoke though. Oil on the ground underneath it. Tossed it in the scrap pile and bought a new one. New one is nice and quiet.

MACS - You called it during the Saturday night Vherf.. Colorado Avalanche swept the Edmonton Oilers in game 4 in overtime of the Western Conference Final. Avs move on to the Stanley Cup.

So who do you pick between the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference? Rangers are up 2-1 with game 4 tonight.

I'd like to say the Lightning, because I don't like any NY teams, and they could come back from the 2-1 deficit... I just think the team is tired. But they are way more playoff experienced, so who knows.

Avs are young, hungry and will be rested. Whoever they face is going to have a tough finals.

I appreciate that, and yes, airplanes are tubular aluminum germ cesspools.

So far, it's like a really bad head cold, with a pounding headache and many sore joints.

My son might have his driver's license by then. His road test is scheduled for July 9 and he's confident he'll pass. We did a practice one the other day and he passed my criteria but I'm kinda biased.

Maybe he can smoke one with us... then again prolly not legal to do so in an establishment since he's only 17.

Nearly every time I fly, even way before Rona was created, I'd get a sinus cold/infection. Would last a few days then clear up but it would be a miserable couple of days... like my eyes wanted to explode out of my head,

So my daughter called earlier today to say she was coming over for a visit. I roasted 2 chickens, cooked some veggies and made an awesome pasta salad with spinach, feta and red onion in a Greek vinaigrette. I thought, won't this be nice, just the four of us sitting down for dinner. She stayed for dinner but, it turns out that she really came over to give her dog a bath in my shower because "Your shower is nicer than mine." Is it to late to put a 21yr old daughter up for adoption?

I've got a stabbing pain on the side of my head too.

I would ask RAM but he's probably sleeping.

So my son will be going for his driver's license in the next month. Assuming he passes... I'll probably be looking for a car for him at some point. Nothing special, just around town and local travel and stuff.

Playing the odds (new driver and such), he'll probably get into some sort of accident and hopefully it's just a fender bender. I'll be looking for something safe, reliable, able to handle New England snow season and likely disposable after a few years. My first car was a hand-me-down from my brother... a '72 or '74 Plymouth Fury III. It was a tank of a vehicle - safety was not an issue unless you were in the opposing car I smashed into.

Since I don't see any Plymouth Fury III on the market, open for suggestions on make and model that won't break the bank.

Not looking to do a loan or lease (first car, new driver = likely a collision at some point = something I don't want a loan or lease on) just do cash money.

Probably not the best time to be looking for a car as prices are kind of outrageous but just thinking out loud.

What say you?

He'll be like 17 yrs 4 months when we get there so it's kinda close to 18. If we add in the time zone difference of 1 hr/day over 17 yrs and 4 months... toss in a couple leap year days.... probably gets us close to the 18 yr mark... we'd have to do the math on a cocktail napkin if the establishment would let it slide.

(Oooooohhh.... the Ex would be furious if she knew I let him come into a cigar bar and smoke a cigar... That kinda makes it even more enticing)

I think I have cigars older than him that I've gotten though trades here and there from folks on this forum. I'm gonna have to go dive in my tuperdors. I know for sure I have some stashed away from bombs you guys hit me with around the time he was born.

This adds to the conundrum... is it legal for a 17 yr old to smoke a Cuban cigar in the US that was gifted from Buckwheat which is as old, if not older, than the person actually smoking it?

(Ya gotta read that sentence slowly as it has a lot of lawyer like dribble babble)

It's like a "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma" even though it's not a Churchill size cigar.

I've always felt that a first car should be at least as old as the first driver, largely due to being saddled with a 75 Buick Apollo as mine.

So, top safety picks for 2005-06 according to the IIHS:
Honda Civic 4 door
Subaru Legacy
Saab 9-3
Ford 500/Mercury Montego

Cross reference with most reliable vehicle lists from that time, and you want a Honda Civic.

As of a year or two back it became illegal for anyone under 18 in the US to smoke cigars or other lesser tobacco products. So you can do it, but you'll need a large privacy fence so the neighbors don't report you and under a tree so the drones can't spot you.

I always thought any kid's first car should be like a big bumper car with a roll bar and have blinking lights to warn everyone. Get the kid a '55 Plymouth Savoy like I got saddled with cuz my dad knew the guy wanting to get rid of it.
He prolly won't get in too many accidents since it mostly won't run.

You'll have another opportunity to people watch at Lambeau during that time. On July 23, the best European football team from Germany is playing the best team from England at Lambeau. Imagining there will be some blokes from across the pond walking around.

You can walk through the parking lot with a lit cigar and not be wrestled to the ground.

Plus, the boy could have a cigar too.
Another option, pending weather, is the cigar lounge has outside seating in the front. Technically it is for customers only. Many of the staff would likely turn a blind eye.

Ah yes, the good ol’ Buick Apollo. I know we talked about this earlier. Not very fuel efficient or stylish.

My first car was a ‘66 4-door Plymouth Valiant 200 that my Dad and oldest brother picked out for me in the Summer of ‘73. I had no say, in fact, didn’t even know they had bought me a car till I saw it parked in front of my Dad’s workshop. Iirc, it was either $600 or $800 and I had to pay my Dad back with money from my summer job. Gonz

Used the car to go back ‘n forth to school and my part-time job but two years later I bought a ‘68 Road Runner…and then a few months later, the gas crisis reared it’s ugly head…talk about terrible timing! d'oh!

+1 on the Civic.

A Toyota Corolla is also a safe, dependable vehicle (…although not sure about it’s performance in the snowy Winter…).

With the air flow and filters on planes I think it’s tough to catch ‘Rona there even though it feels confined. I put my air vent on full to keep the ‘Rona moving.

On a side note, a coworker just lost her brother to ‘Rona yesterday. He was on chemo and it got him. It preys on the weak.

Any five-star Honda.
My Accord got rear-ended at probably 30-40mph (according to the body shop) and it crumpled and like exactly where it was supposed to, which lessened the force of the impact and kept us relatively safe compared to lots of other cars.

This year's Civic is supposed to be awesome, but your likely safer in an Accord.
