Caught a mahi mahi, my buddy landed 3. The boat totaled 9 mahis and one or 2 near-misses. The "one that got away" was a 150-160-ish lbs. ahi that the guy fought for 68 minutes, got it alongside the boat but that fish just didn't want to go to the auction block. He fought hard each time they brought him within gaffe range and eventually threw the lure. Was caught on video so he could tell the story and not be called a liar.

Going to dinner with the family and my buddy in about an hour. One of my favorite places, Tokkuri Tei. Wide array of dishes and adult beverages. My wife and I are considering it our 40th anniversary dinner celebration even though our anniversary isn't till Monday.

Congrats ........and tell Patti I don't know how.she did it

You have to tell me about this "over 100 goes to auction" bullsheet.

WTF is that all about? You caught it... it's your fish, dammit.

And the 160 lb'er that took over an hour? Brah... you need the right rod/reel for those big ones. Penn VISX 50. We pulled in those fish we caught the other day in 10 minutes. Never used 2nd gear. :)

Edit: To be fair, you really have to fish a lot to justify a damn near 2k rod/reel setup.

And that doesn't count the 10 years prior when we first met in high school!

I have no clue about the 100 lbs. thing. Guess it would have been an interesting conversation. But then again, the guy who was fighting it was a tourist from the Mainland so dunno what he was gonna do with all that fish. He probably would have cooked it all! d'oh!

Dunno what kind of equipment the boat uses but I know they were Penns.

I think out here in MA if you charter a boat and you catch one over a certain weight, it belongs to the captain of the boat. It's probably in the fine print when you charter the boat. Not sure of any laws about it having to go up for auction or if you catch it on your own boat.

Mahi is one of my favorite fish to eat, right up there with grouper and sardines (grilled, Portuguese style).

Congrats a little early Palama!

My bad, it was 16 minutes! I checked with my buddy tonight and he corrected me. I was napping when the fish hooked up and in my groggy state, totally misheard the time. Brick wall

I fought a 75 lb Ahi for an hour... but I hooked him on the wrong gear. Shimano Torium 20, and 30 lb line. d'oh!

Up at 0600,quick scrambled egg, bean and cheese breakfast burrito then off to get the trolling motor mounted.Finished by 1000..........had I known how much easier trolling motors are to mount using quick release brackets I'd have started using them long ago.Still have a 24V receptacle to fit plus a 60 amp breaker and a dual battery box..............but I haven't picked up the batteries yet so no rush.Tomorrow I may tinker with some small stuff but I'm not going to get too involved.

Invested most of the day outside, either walking or sitting on the deck.
A great chat with my son.
Sister stopped over with her longest. It was a surprise stop, not unwelcome. Had a nice chat.
And in between the two, had ribeyes. Both were fantastic. Should quit grilling steaks from here. Drop the grill mic and quietly walk away.

Doggie walk completed... both of us have been fed. Time to chillax a bit. Not much left to do until Wednesday, really.

Need to get to Home Depot tomorrow to buy some PVC drainage pipe. 100" long. I'm going to wrap my fishing rods in bubble wrap, stuff them in the tube, and ship them to Jax via UPS. I have 5 of them. Two 7' rods, a 7.5' and two 8'.

When referring to Frankie, is “fishies” code for something else other than fish? Think

Fried up the mahi from Saturday’s fishing trip last night. Tempura-style. More than enough for my wife, our son and myself. Couple pieces leftover but gonna take the wifey out to dinner as part of our anniversary weekend. Hopefully get back early enough for me to fire up a celebratory cigar.
