Starting to pack for Colorado. Sending big and heavy stuff with a buddy's RV so I can have a decent loadout to feed a dozen people but not pay for three checked bags. He's not taking his enclosed trailer, just an open trailer so that limits me a bit. No pitbike is gonna be the worst part, I'll be walking 15 miles a day or more. He's leaving Tuesday so I'm gonna stop by after work and load out.

I fly out early Thursday.

Burned out an old belt sander. Hadn’t touched it in at least 7 years. Home Depot run done. New little sander works far better and is cordless.

I gotta pitch some ancient power tools I’ve just been lugging around through various relocations.

While doing weekend warrior home improvement projects, I despised doing drywall and painting. Hanging drywall, not too bad but the mudding, skim coating and sanding it sucked.

Painting sucked - taping everything off, brushes, rollers, trays, up and down the ladders, cleaning the brushes and rollers... ugh. I never saved the brushes or rollers. Just put them in bags until the final coat for the particular project was done then I just tossed them. New brushes and rollers were bought when another "honey do" project was forced upon me.

Contractors have it down to a science. Plastic sheets and tape over the stuff that doesn't get painted (windows, doors, etc.) then blast the whole room with a spray gun.

Doing some sanding mudding, priming, painting to take out some imperfections. My dilemma was to do some of this myself now or wait until October and have pros do it. Once my bathrooms are done, the realtors will do a walkthrough and then I’ll have a cosmetic improvement budget in the area of $15k. Paint, carpet and yards are suggested but paint and carpet would happen after my move out and delay the listing date to sell.

If my fix now sucks I’ll have wasted the weekend and have real painters fix it in November. Sanding and mudding done. Having a cigar and a Robert Young Rachel’s Rose bottle of wine.

New construction, yes. But existing and lived in homes, usually the ladders, dropcloths, brushes and rollers. I miss having minions to do the prep work

Mrs. Beach's painter doesn't work like that nowadays. He's gotten fat and slow over the years.

Morning, peoples. Off to the nephew's Bday party today. He's into football cards and his grandparents buy him full sets of the current year. Kind of a lame way to collect IMO. So, I did some eBaying and FB Marketplacing, and assembled a decent set of Bears players from 1966-2004. I guess he still doesn't get the thrill of the hunt this way either, but at least I enjoyed myself

I'm in the process of converting to pretty much all cordless. Battery tech has finally caught up at least for my use. Circular saw needs new brushes, but instead of that I'm going to replace it with a battery one. Still have a corded sawzall and two corded hammer drills - one of those is a big 15amp motor and can't be replaced by battery yet. Or maybe it can, but I doubt I could afford it, the big one used cost me $800.

I've gotten rid of a lot of corded power tools over the past few years. They sell easy if you sell em cheap. I'll probably dig through my parts bins and try to find brushes that fit the old screw drive circular saw to make it run nice and get $50 for it. I replace when they need to be fixed. If they're still working for what I need, I'm in no rush.

Hell, I've even given up on a lot of pneumatic tools because the modern battery equivalents are better in almost every way. You just can't run em all day in constant use like a pneumatic. But my 1/2" battery impact gun takes wheels off better than my pneumatic gun did and no hoses to drag around.

Getting to the end of the garden season. It seemed a bit short this year.

My beans were not very productive. Talking with others in the neighborhood it's not been a good season for them either. The bees haven't been pollinating them. I have one cucumber plant still holding on but they are close to being done. I had a pretty good harvest on cukes. Tomatoes and peppers are still going. Bumper crop of jalapenos.

This was my first year doing the container/garden bag thing.

Next year I'm going to stagger the seed germination. When one series of plants are done, I'll have another set of seedlings ready to go and keep going until a hard frost.

My beans were ok, cukes didn't last long, peppers and tomatoes ok, squash still producing. Problems with something eating tomatoes and digging near plants. First lettuce crop was OK, but the heat and drought stopped the next two plantings. This year's garden is about 1/6 th of what I used to plant. I had time for a big garden until a few years after I retired.

My tomatoes have sucked for the last two years. It’s not getting hot enough. They grow great but don’t set much fruit.

With our move pending I’m removing the garden rapidly and won’t plant a fall/winter crop. Usually do romaine, carrots, onions, garlic.

I’m buried in grapes. I have Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Sauvignon that I’m sharing with the birds.

How much was that Gale Sayers card? In one of my early football memories, I was watching the delayed broadcast of the Chicago- San Fran game when Sayers injured his knee. I didn’t really know how good he was but from the way the broadcasters were talking, knew he was a good player and the injury was serious. Oh what might have been had he played in the ‘90s and “modern” medical technology would have just scoped his knee instead of slicing and dicing?

Drainage and percolation bro, especially on low or flat land, or anything other than real sandy soil. Possibly even a couple or several French drains. Might even need a permit depending on what water district you are in. Got a neighborhood association requiring pre-approval? There is a reason people don't have turf lawns in Florida, but I know you have your heart set on it. Herfing

I thought so... until I tried to enter the commissary today with no mask on. Literally NO supermarkets in CA, no stores for that matter, were requiring masks. None here in FL are, either... except the commissary, which is on the base... controlled by the US gov't.

I thought we were following the science? Haven't we established that the face-diapers were no more than a friggin' placebo? Hasn't Father Fauci already admitted it? Isn't the CDC website even acknowledging it? Pissed me off, it did.

Been bringing Tank with us wherever we go. He needs to get used to the place and we need to get the turf installed before we leave him in the back yard alone... it's stupid muddy because of the fkn weather here.

Manager asks me if he's a service dog. Yup. She asks - what is he trained to do? Keep me calm when idiots ask me stupid questions. She left me alone. Literally did an about face and walked away.

One hour procedure on the the backside of my neck (as opposed to going through my throat): laminectomy to relieve spinal cord compression, removal of a synovial cyst (non-malignant) impinging on a nerve root in the facet joint, and fusion from C6-T1. Glad you asked? LOL. ram27bat

Home again finally. The kid loved his cards. I was a little concerned a 9yr old wouldn't know a thing about the '85 Bears, let alone Butkus, Sayers, and Piccolo.

Exhausted. Sleepy sleep now.
