so, big surprise. I'm gonna be in the minority here, but maybe not everywhere...

I find the utter lack of respect for humans (with a wink and a grin) beyond despicable. Not because libs got stuffed, but because of the fact that human dignity was shat on, used for political gain...though I believe that will backfire.

I'm less certain of my commitment to my next reaction, I may change as time passes, but I can't erase from my mind the pictures/thoughts of cattle cars being loaded in Germany with humans considered less than human to be sent to places they knew not where.

You may have corrected yourself later in this thread, but allow me to comment:

Airplanes to an island destination shouldn't be compared to cattle cars to concentration camps. Ever.

Was it lack of respect for humans when Biden sent several aircraft to land at the Cape Cod military base in the dead of night a year or so ago? Airplanes filled with (wait for it) immigrants without proper documentation.
At the time the biggest question was vaccination status.
Now we question criminal intent.

What's the difference?
Oh yeah. Politics.

In the meantime, those MV libs showed great respect for the immigrants. 3 bookbags and 4 tuna casseroles later they shipped them off the island under military escort. Less than 48 hours they had to endure the horror of 50 immigrants. Meanwhile the border states are left to deal with 2000. Every. Day.

Political move? Yes... to make a point to those that beat the drum of sanctuary cities who sit afar from what is reality and do not have to deal with the flood of illegal immigrants across the boarders on a daily basis.

It's all good until they show up on your doorstep. The MV folks showed their true colors and it wasn't compassion it was NIMBY. How many open rooms in the mansions and vacation homes are sitting with empty rooms? Did any the MV citizens open up their homes to house them for a bit? Maybe for a photo shoot but the press better get there quick. Here's a tooth brush, baloney & cheese sammich, a plastic bag to put your possessions in but don't get comfortable because the bus will be here to pick you for a ride to the airport soon.

TX boarder towns have to deal with 1000's per day but MV couldn't handle even 50.

Comparing the 50 immigrants flown on charter planes to Martha's Vineyard is 1,000,000 times different than loading up "undesirables" in cattle cars, trucked to points unknown and arrive to a concentration camp.

Trying to make that as an equivalent is wrong in so many ways.

I addressed that initially when I said it was an initial emotion or thought that I was not committing to and would likely evolve, but that's how I react when seeing people treated as lesser value humans to be used to make a "point". It came from my gut and my heart, not my head. Perhaps the tactic had some comparative merit though the goal clearly did not, and I now see that.

I have even posted as side commentary maybe twice that no one thinks our border/immigration policies work or should not be remodeled as bipartisan policy...but both sides have to sit at the same table. Not just one side.

Is anyone concerned at all that the way chosen to make a point was to basically use funds from the $12mm of Floridians' money specified to use on migrants IN Florida was instead used to import migrants from another state just to fly them out? Clearly they were not issues at all for anyone living in Florida! Anyone think of how enormous an abuse this was by DeSantis?

On a happier note, I now look forward to the new and hearty support that I have not received at all the last two years when I objected to posts citing Naziism, Gestapo, Stasi, Slavery and more being used as comparisons to taxes and face masks and other "sufferings". You guys will carry over your new outrage and join me when the memories of real acts of the Holocaust and Slavery are desecrated and cheapened by analogies to hideous acts in history, won't you?

The moral necessity of DeSantis’s immigrant flight

It was necessary for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to fly illegal immigrants from San Antonio, Texas, to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. If you want to know why, look no further than President Joe Biden's interview on 60 Minutes on Sunday night.

Given at least 15 minutes to ask whatever questions it thought important, CBS News made no mention of border security. Not a peep. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

Yet illegal immigrants are crossing the southern border at a record pace . The number passed 2 million this fiscal year, according to data released on Sept. 19.

As a direct result of these record high illegal crossings, record numbers are also dying on the southern border — 750 so far this year, which is 200 more than last year and 500 more than in 2020. These deaths are all due to the chaos caused by Biden's catch-and-release border policy. CBS News either doesn’t care about these dead immigrants or does not want to embarrass Biden by asking difficult questions that the public deserves to have answered.

Sending a few immigrants to a Democratic enclave inhabited by liberals who mostly support Biden and are plenty rich enough to look after the new arrivals is an effective way of drawing a national crisis properly to national attention. It also puts those responsible for the crisis on the spot and asks what they propose doing about it.

Nor is it only Republicans who are trying to get Biden to pay attention to the disaster he has caused. The mayor of Yuma, Arizona, asked the White House this May to stop busing immigrants to his small city of 97,000 . Yuma’s leaders told the White House it should bus immigrants only to communities of a million or more people because small towns don’t have the infrastructure to shelter, feed, and educate so many families.

Biden has ignored Yuma’s pleas, and the buses of immigrants have kept coming.

The Democratic mayor of Eagle Pass, Texas, also reached out to the White House for assistance with immigrants flooding his community. “I would like to hear a plan as to what they're doing to counter the possibility of a surge in people on the border,” Mayor Rolando Salinas told the Washington Examiner. “Nobody has reached out to me or to the city. I haven't heard from anyone.”

The situation in El Paso, Texas, is even worse, with immigrants sleeping on the streets all over town. The situation has become so bad that the Democratic mayor has already sent more than 50 busloads to New York City, over and above any sent there and to Washington, D.C., by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. These buses have been arriving in New York since August, but CBS News did not bother to report on them.

Communities on the southern border are being overwhelmed by the sheer number of immigrants arrested and released into the United States. Biden would prefer to ignore the crisis his policies have created, and his media allies are helping him. That is why DeSantis’s immigrant flight to Martha's Vineyard was necessary. It has forced the media to pay attention to a crisis they are trying to ignore in order to protect Biden.

It is unclear what exactly was said to the immigrants flown to Martha’s Vineyard or by whom. If they were lied to, that was wrong, and there should be consequences for those tricking the immigrants with falsehoods. DeSantis, for his part, has said he simply gave them a free ride to help them reach a "sanctuary" jurisdiction. If the immigrants were told that they had a better chance of finding work there, that is probably true. As one immigrant told reporters, "I didn’t expect it to be like this, but I feel comfortable here. I want to be here.”

If you want to know what real cruelty to immigrants looks like, just look at what Biden did to Haitians living under the International Bridge in Del Rio, Texas, exactly one year ago. For months, he had released Haitians into the U.S. after they were arrested after illegally crossing the southern border. This policy signaled to thousands of Haitians who had been living peacefully throughout Central and South America for years that they could now enter the U.S. So many of them came that the Border Patrol couldn’t process them fast enough, creating a shantytown under the bridge. Embarrassed by the images of chaos in Del Rio, Biden changed policies and, instead of releasing Haitians into the U.S., started flying the immigrants to Haiti even though that wasn't where many had come from.

“How could Biden do this to us?” Haitian immigrant Sonia Piard asked reporters after being forced off a chartered plane in Port-au-Prince, the Haitian capital. “We did not know we were going back to Haiti,” Piard continued. “Nobody told us we were going back to Haiti.”

Where were all the Democrats and editorial boards calling Biden’s Haiti flights a “crime against humanity” back then? Martha’s Vineyard is a paradise compared to that hell on Earth.

Residents of Martha’s Vineyard did not let the immigrants stay on their island. Despite having hundreds of huge homes now empty because summer is over, and despite having a nonprofit organization with $16 million in assets created to remove “the barriers that prevent equal rights for us all,” they called on the National Guard to help ship the immigrants to a nearby military base. If only Yuma had thought of that.

Flying immigrants to random cities throughout the country is not a solution to the border crisis. If it were, Biden would have already solved it — under his direction, the Department of Homeland Security has been building tent cities designed to process immigrants into the U.S. as fast as possible. That strategy isn’t working. It is only encouraging more immigrants to come.

The only way this border crisis gets solved is if Biden is forced to end his catch-and-release policies that are creating it. Democrats have long been effective in executing political stunts to embarrass Republicans. It is good to see Republicans like DeSantis fight back by taking decisive action to elevate this problem in a way that exposes the Democrats' hypocrisy and Biden’s policy failure.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-america/fairness-justice/the-moral-necessity-of-desantiss-immigrant-flight

I'm all for governors doing what they're doing to raise awareness on the border debacle. They're fed up. They're being drained and it's all solvable. What Biden did with the policies Trump had in place (which were working!) is his and his parties pride dictating the ruin of this nation. If we don't have a secure border we won't have a nation for much longer. Stop pretending we do.

I'm sure you can find records rather than opinion pieces posing as news.

what did they do to be illegal per your sources?

Wouldn't it be a Federal crime if DeSantis moved illegals from out of his state?
He's too smaht for that, no?
Why promise to expedite the process if people weren't legally waiting?

Look, they're not citizens of the US.

PS: They're not just my sources. They're yours too.

If it's a federal crime I'm sure the charges will be coming. INSURRECTION all over again for the bleeding liberal lefties. Grow a spine already.

We shouldn't be expediting a damned thing. We should properly vet these people and make sure they're not criminals and that they're who they say they really are. The long delay is often on the part of the country they're coming from!

They all signed a form that read in full:

OFFICIAL CONSENT TO TRANSPORT

I, _______________________born on ____________________, agree to be transported by the benefactor or its designated representatives to locations outside of Texas, to locations in sanctuary States.

I agree to hold the benefactor or it’s designated representatives harmless of all liability arising out of or in any way relating to any injuries and damages that may occur during the agreed transport to locations outside of Texas until the final destination of Massachusetts.

The benefactor and designated officials represent that they are not providing transportation made in furtherance of any unlawful entry into the United States.

This was provided in English and Spanish. Seeing as how the island is pretty much closed for the season...there were loads of places ( I even posted a link detailing all the cozy establishments that had vacancies on this thread!) for them to stay right there. It was just inconvenient for the locals to see someone from Venezuela without lawn implements so they called in the National Guard and got them the hell out of there. I bet the poor democrat mayor from Eagle's Pass is relieved that he has 50 open slots. Tomorrow he needs to make way for another 2000.

Maybe...just maybe...they saw this coming from the DHS...

actually, we may need an attorney to weigh in on this but for some reason I believe that anyone physically inside our borders has the most of the same rights as citizens when it comes to the legal system, though still subjected to Immigration Laws.
I certainly hope that I am also protected by the Constitution (along with the migrants) from being relocated illegally.

I think we will eventually find the form offered up may have not been exactly what you've been told...in English and Spanish.

Don't worry about my spine, pal. I've lasted a long time here despite my minority opinion status. Could you?

Here is the full John Donne quote from his sermon:

“No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.”

I think you may have unwittingly made my point...

Pretty flippant when you can actually read EXACTLY how I feel about it on this thread. You're not going to change my mind. I understand firsthand what legal immigration means. My father escaped Cuba in October 1958. He was already going to High School in Miami. The family had ties to Batista's military (most stayed) that urged all to get out because what was coming will not be good. I've heard all of their stories and been there in Miami International to welcome some that were finally able to get out. I grasp that immigrating legally isn't an easy process. It shouldn't be either. We don't want other nations to treat us as a garbage dump when in fact we are still the greatest nation on the planet. There is no doubt we're sliding down into socialism and that will be the death of this nation. I don't want people breaking laws the 1st thing when they step onto US soil. Our President shouldn't either. This mess is all on him and all on the people that voted for him. He was vocal about how and what he was going to do...about everything.

lemme try to break down a packed paragraph...

flippant? really? it's a yuuuge part of what we all bring to the table. I know you can take it or it wouldn't be any fun.

I love, not like, I love your family's story. No need for me to post mine here and now, but you have described who and what we are AND why we are that in America.

Some libertarians along with (too) Progressives are actually for mostly wide open borders, I can't agree with that, I would agree with it being purposely difficult to be a true member of The Greatest nation on the planet...the tests but not the wait. I hired many immigrants over a quarter of a century and several (notably my Vietnamese folks) had books in their faces every free minute. I'd bet they could answer questions many tough guys here and in the country who are calling them all criminals, rapists, drug dealers, would be unable to make an educated guess.
Proud of them, some Salvadorans, a few Brazilians blah blah blah.

Why the assumption we are being sent the dregs intentionally? Why the heavy campaign to create fear of the brown people? Cuba definitely did it a few years ago, but was that how America saw your father? Like I said, I hired several, interviewed many, and I heard stories of horror that conjured the voices of my grandparents who got here long before the rise of Hitler but certainly not in a time of comfort for Jews...but when has that ever happened? Today's people are risking it all to get here. As a wise old neighbor once said to me "if I can't help ya, I don't wanna fu(k ya too".
Some did what they could to help, why chit on them?

The mess is on 40 years of Congress.

Although in a response to my post, I'll assume you aren't pointing this one at me. I don't think I used those comparisons.

But this reeks of whataboutism.

Calling someone a nazi is not the same as referencing the concentration camps. At least in my opinion.
Just like calling out someone as being a terrorist, versus comparing something to the towers falling in NYC.
It's not so much that it might be offensive, so much as I don't think there is any comparison.

a dollar or a billion. I never stated how much of their money he used improperly...the key word is improperly, not a dollar figure.
DeSantis used their money to import legals, not illegals, from Texas to scatter elsewhere.
And you think that was a good thing?

mine came legally as well, both sides. A few had harrowing journeys that took several years.
Just like the people in the subject of this thread, minus the mountains, jungles, cartels and stuff.

I don't know if I had relatives on the St. Louis though. But Cuba let them in, I think.

That remains to be seen... if it somehow finally gets people to understand the absolute INVASION at our southern border, I would say yes.

What's worse... Biden doing the transports of thousands to many cities in the USA in the middle of the night, or Desantis sending 50 or so to Martha's Vineyard?

They were sent to the old military base here on Cape Cod.
They're still eating the tuna casseroles that all those generous MV libs had their housekeeper's make before they stuffed in them into busses and had the national guard drive them onto the ferry.

Several of the locals still suffer from a case of the vapors.

DeSantis used their money to import legals, not illegals, from Texas to scatter elsewhere.

Explain please.
