If they do not elect a speaker that would guarantee that they do less harm than the last session.

I’ve seen it reported that so and so said this and that. But, not until late last night did I see where is member was quoted as saying they had actually been given something in writing.

For the record, I don’t tend to lend much credence to rumors. Far too often one reporter reports something that is picked up by another reporter or six then ends up being walked back at a later time.

On the other hand, I find it crazy to hang on to a moment in time during hard negotiations as what’s on the table can change at the drop of a hat. People who don’t have a seat at the table need to chill, let this play out and see where the hammer drops. Until it does, no one not directly involved really knows WTF is actually being discussed behind closed doors.

So yesterday on camera did he said the the rules package he would put forth would include:
1) Ability of a single member to request a vote on the speaker
2) A minimum 72 hour period between time a bill is brought to the floor and a vote on the same bill
3) Single issue bills
4) Ability for any member to offer amendments to a bill on the floor of the house

In addition in same interview did he agree to:
1) Certain committee assignments and chairmanships
2) Consider legislation regarding border security
3) Consider legislation regarding term limits

This is about much more than the ability to call for a vote on the Speaker.

I didn’t see the interview you speak of, but had he addressed all the points I mentioned above, I suspect he would either get elected in the next ballot or finally realize that he is unelectable as Speaker and bow out gracefully.

He DID say he supported single member requests to vote on speaker, He DID mention eliminating these dark vote bills, He DID mention amendments on the floor but not sure if hey said he agreed to that or not. the BIG issue for most of them per Him and others in interviews over the last few days are the speaker vote and the dark bills.

He still isnt going to get the vote this time... maybe not at all today...

I’ve based my list on what has been said during speeches on the house floor. Don’t really give much credence to what McCarthy says is issues people have with him as I would expect him to spin it as it best suits him.

He Probably will, Probably not today though. he needs to flip 3 more. Perry was a good flip for him since he leads some of the others... LB and MG are not flipping so he has 5 people to focus on...

here we go, no competing Republican nominees so maybe this is the one... They can vote for others without nominating (2 other so far) so it doesn't mean a done deal. He can only afford 4 "other" votes.

REBELS! I like REBELS!

Inside the Freedom Caucus rebellion over McCarthy's Speaker bid

Sources tell The Dossier:

Quote:
I spoke to a bunch of people on Capitol Hill (on background) about the ongoing negotiations surrounding the Speaker fight.

Here’s where things stand right now:

A majority of the 20 or so Freedom Caucus rebels believe that the best plan of action is to use their holdout leverage to compromise and weaken Rep Kevin McCarthy as much as humanly possible. After first ignoring this coalition, the power-hungry McCarthy, who is desperate to obtain the Speakership at all costs, has further engaged their requests for a more transparent and democratic House of Representatives.

The negotiators believe that McCarthy would be more hospitable to their agenda than House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who has a similar, very liberal voting record. Should McCarthy step down, the GOP Uniparty coalition members would most likely nominate Scalise next. The pro-negotiations side of the Freedom Caucus group amounts to roughly two-thirds of the anti-McCarthy coalition.

Rep Chip Roy is leading the fight to exact maximum concessions from McCarthy. He has made clear that the Freedom Caucus will not agree to anything without verifiable commitments.

this razor thin majority is mucking up things.

For reference, Boener had 25 against him and then 12 or so another time.

Paul Ryan had 9 against him.

So it is not like it is unprecedented for votes against.

15 against Pelosi in 2019
5 against Pelosi in 2021

63 against Pelosi for minority leader in '15

...but lets make HBO specials about her, because we need to make up History about how great she is.

63 against Pelosi for minority leader in '15...

The House has elected a Speaker 127 times since 1789. In the modern era, the Speaker is elected at the beginning of the new Congress by a majority of the Representatives-elect from candidates separately chosen by the majority- and minority-party caucuses. In cases of an unexpected vacancy during a Congress a new Speaker is elected by a majority of the House from candidates previously chosen by the majority and minority parties.

There have been 14 instances of Speaker elections requiring multiple ballots (the records for the 2nd Congress, 1791–1793, are inconclusive, and the House has filled vacancies in the Speakership three times using a resolution). Thirteen of 14 multiple-ballot elections occurred before the Civil War, when party divisions were more nebulous. The last time a Speaker election required two or more votes on the floor happened in 1923.

I think it's just begun Robert.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Parliament of Whores, Hakeem settles right in lyin' like Dirty Nancy.

Quote:
“We will never compromise our principles,” Hakeem said early Saturday morning. “House Democrats will always put American values over autocracy. Benevolence over bigotry. The constitution over the cult. Democracy over demagogues. Economic opportunity over extremism. Freedom over fascism. Governing over gaslighting. Hopefulness over hatred. Inclusion over isolation. Justice over judicial overreach. Knowledge over Kangaroo courts. Liberty over limitation. Maturity over Mar-a-Lago. Normalcy over negativity. Opportunity over obstruction. People over politics. Quality of life issues over QAnon. Reason over racism. Substance over slander. Triumph over tyranny. Understanding over ugliness. Voting rights over voter suppression. Working families over the well connected. Xenial over xenophobia. Yes we can over you can’t do it. And zealous representation over zero confrontation.”

“We will always do the right thing by the American people. So let us not grow weary of doing good for the american people will reap the benefit of the harvest if we do not give up. God bless you. God bless the House. And God bless the United States of America!” Jeffries finished.

MORE ON HAKEEM JEFFRIES: Minority Leader Claims “Substance Over Slander” After Lying About 5 Police Officers Who Died on Jan 6th

By Joe Hoft
Published January 7, 2023 at 9:40am

Quote:
Unimpressive and simple House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries gave his first speech in the 118th Congress last night. It was a speech filled with insults, fantasy, and lies that ranks up there with all of the repulsive displays by Nancy Pelosi over the years. He slid right in his role as Democrat leader.

Jeffries showed lies and gaslighting are the staples of the Democrat regime.

"Cops who died ..because of...Jan . 6 riots"...

i.e. strokes and suicides by capital police swallowing their service pistols and self checkout ( which is very very sad)

He may have misspoken and not clarified the statement you qouted...
