I received a package from my FOG today…okay, okay, my Vet. It was overly generous. I can only say that they will not be wasted and I will smoke them in solitude while focusing on the tobacco. Otherwise I’m not worthy of this beautiful gift. Robert sent me a knockout lineup of never-hads and a Gonzalez never heard of. A five finger bag with the following:

- Por Larranaga Rothschild CC
- Rafael Gonzalez Panatelas Extra CC
- Romeo y Julieta Desde 1875 Rothschild CC
- Tatuaje Selección de Cazador Especiales (Brown band) (7 1/2 x 38)
- Diamond Crown Maximus dated January 2001, Ack rcvd in 2022 box pass

Robert, thank you for this. I’m equally excited for the Tatuaje and the DC as I am for the rare and hard to get CCs. I’m just starting to learn my way around Tatuaje and the age / history of the DC is an impressive addition to my growing collection of truly great cigars. Thank you.

So,
Yesterday afternoon I hear the familiar jingle from my ring doorbell, so I went to check it out. I find a home depot moving box was sitting on my patio table. I knew I had a few things arriving, but nothing that big. I look at the label, SOB............ I was thinking what the hell did he do. I wasn't up in any of the PIB's and the VET/Noob trade was supposed top be a little 5er or 10er or………… well you know. Picked it up to bring inside and damn this is heavy. I little shake and I can hear the candy, better check my sugar before getting into this. My wife walked in as I was getting ready to cut into it, she just looked at me, said "more cigars" and shook her head.

Good lord that a lot of sticks. All of these were listed in the letter and most had some information included as to origin, maker, rarity or even just a little history. Now if your counting, and I had to a few times to get it right, that’s 105 cigars of which I’ve only had 17 and many of those were in other Vitolas. This will truly open my eyes wider to the vast variety that is out there and all that I have yet to explore. Many of these are cigars that I consistently add to carts but never seem to make the cut for one reason or another. Others, I have been hunting for but are usually no longer available. Its full of great samplings of various lines that I just can’t wait to try. I had to pull out an old tupperdor now simply labeled SOB.

I’ve already messaged SOB, but I wanted to thank him again for this incredible assortment. His generosity goes above and beyond. One day, when I get to become a VET and take on my own noob, I’ll be sure to remember what happened here and hope that I can pass on the generosity that was shown to me.

It was a small sized Hone Depot box for the record.

And I'd prefer not to kill you, John. Give the candy to the wife. It'll help her forgive you for these boxes showing up all the time

The comment on non-aggression is completely believable as Dan obviously displays incredible generosity.

The included letter is further support of his genuine brotherhood.

Unfathomable in its entirety.
From now on, I propose we refer to this as "The Big Hit" (TBH) that we compare all other hits to.

TBH, an excellent memorialization. This is a hit that will live in infamy. For two reasons, outside of generosity of course. First is the sheer magnitude. John’s grandchildren may be smoking a few of these. Second is the curation. Some hard to find sticks and some excellent groupings…I don’t want to use the word “sampler”. Excellent work, BP, Your Imperial Majesty.

John, congratulations and good luck lol.

And let’s all respect this moment. The TBH moment. We don’t have to live this way. Think of those who have gone before and think of their sacrifices. Step away from the big box. This isn’t a contest of escalation. Do not attempt to annihilate your brother. Do not seek retribution or revenge. ( 😂 😂)

We are trying to retain good members.
We need to clean-up things a bit for the heavy drop-off in noobs over the last five years or so. Grow or die, IMO.

Por Larranaga CC Corona w/thanks to rfenst

Never had this Cuban cigar but frankly I’ve had very few Cuban cigars. This one has a beautiful brown wrapper w/invisible seems and a very nice triple cap (if not mistaken), tiny crack at the foot, a cosmetic note. Barnyard and cocoa dust fragrance. Deep V cut, not much on a generous cold draw but the mouth tobacco had interesting umami. Kickoff, wow - interesting. Leather, something like cedar, white pepper, green cardamom, sweet / sour umami throughout and a woody smoke presence. I’m just a noob but at the 1” mark I’m declaring this cigar “complex” in the flavor profile. A fruity note now shows in retro. Stacking dimes. End of first third the flavors are now fresh baked bread crust, green cardamom, black pepper, citrus peel and a well balanced profile. I’m glad I decided on the deep V cut, the mouth tobacco tastes lightly of lemon balm. Well into second third the retro begins to tingle slightly bringing burnt nutmeg with molasses faintly in background. Heading into final third w/perfect burn line and copious smoke production. Installed my patented Tele-Nubber w/zero problems. The flavors have mellowed and contracted quite a bit. I’m left w/a delicious mellow nutmeg on non buttered toast balanced with an oaky and light pepper retro. I’m trying very hard to concentrate on the time I have left with this cigar instead of dreading the quickly approaching death of the cherry. Nub rewarding me w/strong hits of orange peel and pepper added to the flavor profile. Handsome, well behaved and hard working flavor complexity that turns on a dime and enchants to the end, this slugger strikes me as slightly heavier nicotine than a simple medium so I’m going w/medium +, knocking on full’s door. I paired w/cold water but I think this will hold up to gin tonic, Martini, strong black coffee or Champagne. I personally would avoid smoky Scotch, Cabernet Sauvignon or wine with strong tannin, tawny Port might work. These pairings are from the mind of a noob and I’m receptive to constructive criticisms. Total smoke time a dreamy 51 minutes.

Thank you, Robert for the cigar, it was truly a pleasurable experience.

I smoked the Tatuaje Seleccion de Cazadore that my Vet, rfenst sent. It was a terrific cigar though I’m not sure I’ve identified it properly. It was a 7.5 x 38 Lancero. Medium plus in flavor and nicotine I would guess. The profile of cedar, citrus peel, toasted dark cocoa and coffee took turns taking the lead and a very nice tobacco flavor was prevalent throughout. The final third had a tingle in the retro with black pepper and minerals. Quite nice. Thank you, Robert.

I smoked the RyJ No.2 CC. It was very enjoyable, very good. Excellent construction, perfect burn line, heaps of smoke. The nose is fragrant with toasty cocoa aromas, barnyard and a floral tinge. Kickoff was creamy mocha and the only black pepper I would taste for the entire cigar. Different versions of cocoa or chocolate dominated the first third with a very creamy and nutty balance. The second third sweetness increased and malted milk balls and milk duds, toasted graham cracker and rose petal tea were the breakout flavors. In the final third the retro finally began to tingle then burn, flavors of cocoa, dark banana bread crust, browned butter and honey were present in final third. I didn’t see in the online reviews a lot of mentions of cocoa, but I noticed it from beginning to end. Thoroughly enjoyed this cigar, it was a real treat. Thank you, Robert.

Por Larranaga CC Corona w/thanks to rfenste.

That cigar is only about one year old. How about I send you one in a year from now andd two years from now, both of wich will result in the cigar changing towards a more carmel/honey taste. It is the best under-the-radar cc IMO.

That was aged 2 years or so in an airtight aluminum tube encased in a roll of cedar, such that the sides of the cigar only come in contact with cedar, not aluminum. The fact that it is airtight slows the aging process. Remind me to send you another a year from now after they have been in my humi without the tubes. Glad you enjoyed.

Robert, that sounds terrific, I’d jump at the chance to try again. Thanks.

Now I’m off to spend time with family. You all have a wonderful day.
