Cigars and Liquor Suggestions Wanted...

Last night I was sitting on my balcony enjoying a cigar (Puros Indios #4) and a small glass of Gran Marnier. I usually don't drink hard liquor, but I for some reason I was in the rare mood to have a drink with my cigar (maybe it was the fact that last night was the first nice wind-free night we have had in Iceland in about two months). WOW, I could not believe how well the two complimented each other...I was in total bliss. Now, here is my question: Does anyone have and specific cigar/liquor suggestions that you consider great. Your input would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Funny thing. I saw the title to this thread and immediately thought of my current favorite combo. Only to find that you tried them! PI's and GM make a great pair. B&B is also a good drink to sip on with full bodied smokes, including Indian Tabac SF's. If you like cognac, a Remy Martin goes well with most any smoke. I'm mostly a beer and wine guy, even when smoking. Prefer deep amber ales and full bodied red wines. FYI: the Gallo of Sonoma Cabernet 1995 is Outstanding, the best under $10 bottle I've had. 1996 is OK too, but if you can find the '95 buy the case.

i can't give to much input with liquors because i am a beer type of person.... but my best experience with most full bodied cigars have been with dark bock type beers.... Smoked an opus x with a dark german beer (microbrewery type) that was about as dark as a glass coke... the mixture was truly great.... Not sure where you are from, but down here in texas we have a beer by the name of "Shiner Bock", my favorite of course that goes well..... sorry i can't help with the liquor portion....

I can't help with the liquor part except for an occasional glass of good cognac compliments well with a full-bodied smoke...I usually enjoy a good beer (preferably a Hacken-Pschorr with a twist of lemon) with a medium to full flavored stogie...Cleanses the palate nicely between several draws.

I am mainly a beer drinker...Michelob Light. But as far as the hard stuff: Elijah Gin over the rocks, 7 -n- 7 makes for a good mix with a dark rich cigar, and oh yeah.....Jack and Coke! Sorry but my Southern influence dictates the Jack.

mtsheron, don't think the Jack & Coke thing is just a southern thing, up here in the yankee north, I enjoy a Jack and Coke (add lemon wedge) with any cigar. Just about any decent bourbon/whiskey goes well (even SoCo is good, even though it's a liquer). I mainly drink beer (Bud/Bud Ice --staples) with my sticks and find it complements flavor well. With my fuller bodied smokes, I like to go with Chivas on rocks, Jameson rocks, Bushmills rocks, Dewars rocks, or either of the Johnnies (red or black).

I have to agree with Mtsheron, but why ruin good Jack by putting Coke in it? There is a small batch bourbon, Knob Creek or some of the peatier, smokier scotches like Oban (both on rocks)that I particularly like with fuller bodied cigars (most ercently a Bahia Gold Maduro). Lately I enjoyed some of the a boutique tequila with an ISOM Cohiba. I don't know if any of you guys are into tequilas, but there are some out there now that are really tasty on the rocks, a far cry from good old Jose Cuervo.

Try a French Connection--No, not the movie--with a maduro. It is one part Grand Marinier and 2 parts Couvouier. Did I masacare the names? Anyways, pour the combo into a snifter and you will be in heaven. Enjoy.

After following this thread throughout the day I picked up a bottle of Sandeman's Porto on the way home. Enjoyed a glass tonight with a La Finca Figuardo and some Classical music (Mozart, Mendelssohn). Heaven!
