I'm being serious - for a man that wants to act so intelligent he sure spells like a 5 year old child. Have you looked at his posts and how they are wrote? I mean even if you are in a hurry you type better then that. The guy is either a little kid on daddies computer or some middle age loser living in mommies basement.

Dude just give it up.

On every post that you criticize my spelling, you misspell and use 2nd grade grammar. Furthermore, my sarcasm eludes you. Please stop with this self-torture. I don’t hold one’s schooling against them. Quite frankly, it’s embarrassing. I don’t want to belittle you for that but you are forcing me.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
We all agreed not to disparage individuals or use profanity, even with cute little symbols instead of real letters, when posting here.
It saddens me to see this topic degenerate into a pre-adolescent name calling contest by adults on both sides of this issue.

Nope. I've been here for a few years.
It was actually worse in the past. During the last Presidential campain I was told by one poster I was the same as a child molesting rapist since I was not in lock-step with the Republicans.
There is some cowardly behavior here at times. People who will say things in print they would never say to a mans face.

I think that some of you are overreacting with sanctimonious indignation.

IMHO, there is nothing wrong if defending your or yours means killing ANYTHING (human, animal, or vegetable).

However, I do have a problem with gratuitous/recreational killing that is not done to maintain the "resource".

The photo was sad & humorous to me at the same time.
Sad because most of us hate seeing an unusual animal (non- commercialized for our edible consumption) being displayed as a trophy, and funny because the poster
's pose and overall context looked funny- especially when captions were added.

Mr. Cooper, when you post a photo like that you have to be able to accept the good and the bad. It appears that you did just that & I salute you.

The rest of you should chill out.

If you've never seen what a Bobcat can do to livestock and you don't live where there is potentially dangerous animals, then your opinion on this matter is worth CRAP! They take down pray double their size, so do some simple math. How many small children are more then 50 pounds? Not many! On top of that, if you don't have small children you won't know the responsibilty feel to protect them from ANY possible threat!

Bobcats are made to KILL other animals, whether it's a sheep or , God forbid , a child. They go for the easy kill. And as a parent, I'd kill anything that would harm my children! Period!

Nice KILL! Nice to see you protecting your family, property, livestock and finacial investments!

For those intersted in a little information on the Missouri Bobcat........

What is one of the largest wild mammals in Missouri? What large mammal sometimes sleeps on and hunts from tree limbs? What mammal can make leaps up to 10 feet? The answer to all three questions: the bobcat.

The bobcat is found only in North America, where it is the most common wildcat. This handsome animal has tufted ears, a tawny coat with black spots and a ruff of fur that flares from its cheeks and neck.

The bobcat gets its name from its stubby or “bobbed” tail, which is only 4 to 6 inches long. The rest of the cat’s body may be from 2 to 4 feet long. Bobcats weigh up to 40 pounds.

Its spotted fur camouflages it well as it hunts for food. Unlike coyotes, for example, which usually trot along when hunting, the bobcat hunts slowly, frequently stopping and sitting for minutes at a time as it studies its environment. It uses its acute sight and hearing more than its sense of smell to find prey.

When the bobcat does spot prey, it lowers itself into a crouch and creeps slowly forward. Bobcats place their front feet down so carefully and noiselessly that their prey does not hear them coming. Then, as they move forward, they place their hind feet in the same spots, so no extra sound is made. When it’s close enough, the bobcat leaps and pulls down the victim with its sharp claws.

“The bobcat’s diet is 70 percent rabbit,” says Dave Hamilton, a resource scientist and furbearer biologist at the Missouri Department of Conservation’s Resource Science Center in Columbia. Bobcat diets also include a variety of small mammals, such as shrews, mice, squirrels and opossums; birds, such as wild turkeys and quail; and, occasionally, deer.

Because there is too much meat on a deer to eat at one time, the bobcat caches or covers it with ground litter. It may come back and feed on the remains later. However, if other food is plentiful, it may not bother to return for the meat.

Bobcats sometimes prey on domestic stock, such as chickens, turkeys, piglets, sheep and goats, but they’re not really a threat to farmers. They may also eat carrion (dead animals) if food is scarce.

These wildcats can live almost anywhere, from swamps, forests and farmlands to scrubby and arid regions, as long as there is some cover to hide in. They often rest in caves or hollow trees and under rock overhangs.

Enjoy

I was out hunting myself once with a buddy. We came around a corner and one was less the 50 yards from us. We both just looked at it and did not even raise our guns. If it was eating my chicke's I may have thought differant.
We raised rabbits at one time and I came out one morning to find a bunch of baby rabbits were missing their feet and there were bobcat prints.Pulled their little feet through the cage bottom and ate them. Poor little bunnies.

I used to live in a Cabin near Talkeetna, Alaska.

I tied a bell to my ankle when I was picking blueberries and when fishing or hiking I wore a .357 on my side. Grizzly's are beautiful creatures. I never had to bring one down "for fear it would eat my chickens." I did fire a couple warning shots once in while though if they got too near.

During really cold winters, the moose would come in and eat out of my garbage cans. I built a really strong bin for the cans, and they never came back.

I would occaisionally see wolves run through the yard.

Anyone that claims they love country life, yet feels the need to kill the very animals that make it "country" is not really a "country" person, but a simple city dweller that lives in the country.

Raising chickens and sheep does not make one country. It makes you a farmer.

Kill all the bobcats you want to make life safe for your chickens and kids.

Just keep your needless and wastefull killing out of Alaska, and anywhere where people still respect the animals and country for what it is.

Good for you.
If you fly fish you should go to Reading's Fly shop near Bennett Springs and look at some of the bird mounts he has. Great stuff, paron the pun.

I did a lot of fishing up there that's for sure. I'm not familiar with the shop you mention though.

I spent two summers at Katmai National Park on the McNeil River doing work for the Forestry Service. I got to see a lot of really pretty animals.

I did a lot of moose, and black bear hunting. A lot of bird hunting too.

I really miss that place.

Alaska is beautiful and the greatest place to fish in the world.....I have fished in rivers and watched Bear and Moose at the same time....keep eyes open for the Bears, as they can cause problems, but like adroomi said fire a shot in the air and generally they run, if not back away slowly and find a car or something to get into! Never run from one!!!!!!!!

Like I said before, If you don't have children to protect , you don't UNDERSTAND!

I live in the northwoods of Wisconsin where there are bears, bobcats and wolves. And don't tell me that animals don't attack humans. The last day of bow season a man was dragging a deer out of the woods and a wolf attacked him. Bit his arm and after a breif struggle the wolf let him go. It did just wanted his deer. But, all that to say, you don't know what wild animals will do. That's why we call them WILD! To say a bobcat won't attack a child is probabely right. But I for one am not going to play the odds with my child's life!

I haven't had to shoot any beautiful animals up here yet, but I would if I felt threatened in any way. Just as a wild animal attacks if IT feels threatened!

That's my take.
