Charlie I was stationed in Alaska for 4 years and I have to agree. There is no better place to hunt and fish. I ate so much salmon straight from the waters there it wasnt even funny. If your an outdoorsman there are few better places to live!

Guess Bobcats aren't threats to humans. At least if you believe this website.

I do believe the excuse was a sorry one, but again... the guy got beat to death over it for no good reason.

According to that site, there is NO RECORD of a Bobcat EVER attacking a human.

I'd be a fan of shooting almost any animal with a tranquilizer gun. That way, you could go up and see the creature up close, and then get away from it before it wakes up.

Yes Macs, I agree. This guy took a pretty nasty beating because of this post and that shouldn't have happened.

Yes, but how many people have been killed by Stingrays? Does it happen or could it happen?

And are you willing to take a chance with someones life?! Your kids?

Bobcats and People
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Oregon, the number of bobcat encounters is increasing because of an increasing human population in the valleys, foothills, and mountains. Free roaming domestic fowl and small pets could become prey to bobcat. Take precautions to protect them.
Bobcats are generally not considered dangerous to people; and are difficult to see in their natural habitat. It is a rare opportunity to see one. Bobcats that have been fed by people or seem "tame" may become aggressive unexpectedly.

What To Do If You See A Bobcat
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are no known reports of attacks by bobcats on people, but it is best, as with all wildlife, to avoid threatening or cornering them.

I'm not comfortable enough with "not generally dangerous to humans", to take the risk and MAYBE they won't attack my kids. And this all coming from "animal Lovers"?
Hey, I'm not going to go hunting for Bobcats but if one kept coming in my yard and eating my animals and is on the same property as my kids... I'd kill it too.

Lucky,

I've always been a believer of the 'when in doubt, kill it' philosophy.

I look at this as a learning opportunity. If I see a bobcat, I won't shoot it.

We don't have bobcats in my area. Wolves and Bears are the only menacing animals in the area I grew up. For me it's easy. If its not a bear or a wolf, I let it live.

I also lived in Fairbanks from 1959 to 1964. The year of 62 I spent in PT. Barrow.

I would kill it too. The noob thaught he had a good pic. He should be able to post without being bashed.

I think you missed my point. I'm not for shooting just to shoot something. But, when a potentially dangerous animal frequents my property in hopes of getting its next meal...then I'd shoot it!

My father-in-law has lost 3 lambs from a Bobcat last year. They go where the food is easy. In that case I would have killed that one!

We have alligators and crocodiles. Our bobcats can't even get on the radar screen in comparision. Our manatees are vicious man-eaters. It is a challenge just to survive here!

I do feel a little bad for grmcooper getting beat up as bad as he/she did on this thread but, it was a slow week around here and someone had to bear the brunt of the pent-up arguing!

We've got coyotes, Hawks and vultures in my area. I've seen all three.

In fact, my neighbor told me that one night when I left my garage door open, he came home late and saw a coyote run out of my garage.

I'd shoot a coyote in a heartbeat. But I can't, because I am in city limits. I would not shoot the hawks or vultures.

My cat will, occasionally, come zooming in the house at break-neck speed and run straight upstairs under my bed. I have to assume she is either being chased by a dog that is loose in the neighborhood (very rare) or a coyote (most likely). I think if I had the opportunity to shoot one, regardless of being in city limits, i'd take it.

MACS(SW),

When I lived in Scripps Ranch, one of my cats routinely played in the canyon behind my house and would occasionally come flying over our 6ft fence in a hurry. Usually, you could hear the coyotes right behind him. The coyotes took up residence in the canyons during a drought and found plenty of food. Animal control had to trap them to get rid of them because they got quite comfortable there. I even saw coyotes walking down our sidewalks late at night.

I seen one walking down the street early in the morning when I was taking the kid to school a couple years ago.

Sightings are rare, but you know they're here.

Saddam's last words were "God is Great!"

Maybe he suddenly saw the grace of God as he stepped towards the door of eternal damnation and realized that God is the way, and the light.

If that's the case, he's up in Heaven with all the other good people of the world.

God is great......such a forgiving God we have.

I was talking to Dapperdan the Jesus man last night so maybe that's what got me to thinking about the reach of God's grace....

Actually, the possibility of God's grace is always there. However, it is hard to imagine one such as Saddam "seeing the light" even while standing on the gallows deck.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

Personally, I think that I'm more like John the son of Zebedee. He was called "Son of Thunder" at one time because he wanted Jesus to kill someone with a lighting bolt.

Ben Franklin wanted our National Bird to be the Wild Turkey.

I'm glad he didn't.

Turkey hunting is fun.

Can you imagine how ugly the crest or anything else would be with a turkey on it instead of the Bald Eagle?

A good friend of mine taught me to Turkey hunt. I'd never done it until 1989 when he took me out the first time.

We were planning on a big season when we came back from Desert Storm, but he went and got himself killed on March 1st, 1991 at 7:05pm. He had left his boat, guns, and bows at my house when we deployed. I tried to use his bow during the next season when I returned but couldn't hit anything.

I left Georgia and went up to Alaska and that year killed a bull moose with his bow. He'd never moose hunted but he talked about it a lot. I layed a photo of my moose and me on his grave in Mississipi when I passed through there in 1998. Mike Garrett.

The only wild turkey I kill these days is named Austin Nichols.

Doesn't look very big. No bigger than the gf's oversized housecat.

I bet you if I dangled the gf's cat upside down by it's hind legs it'd hang about the same length. I also bet you I'd end up scratched all to hell...
