I noticed in several post below guns are often refered to as weapons. Not all guns are weapons. A weapon, in simple terms, is an item used to fight with. May guns are made with one reason, sport or competitive shooting. Yes, many are made for personal protection, and they would be weapons. A gun purchased for sport is no different than a car purchased for racing.

Where am I going with this? I am a competitive shooter, and a mojority of the guns I own are for that purpose only. Those guns are NOT weapons. I do have a few guns that are "weapons", my sidearm is one of them.

Mr. Rick, you seem to be well educated; and I base my assertion on how elequently you elaborate your ideas. I believe logic has fail you with your statement,"not my defination". As you are aware, definitions are not subjective to ones opinion. Not all guns are weapons, and not all weapons are guns. A VCR can become a weapon. If entering a house and a VCR is thrown at me with the intention of causing harm, it has become a weapon.

I am not attempting to cause a **** tossing, and I know this is arguing semantics. Having a hobby where firearms are involved, I have always had a problem(though mostly personal) with referring to guns as weapons. My guns are for shooting paper, and the paper is not capable of "fighting or defending" it self.

To keep it simpler than that, "Guns are only as good as the person using them or as bad as one chooses" You make the call....Brent
