I am wondering how many of you consider Nascar a sport? Or is it just entertainment? Seems to me that if it is a sport then the drivers are athletes. Of course horse jockeys are considered athletes....I think. And marksmen compete in the olympics.

P.S. Is drag racing really difficult. Don't you just slam on the gas when you see the green light and go, then the one with the fastest car wins?

If you play defense or have to score against a defensive unit of some kind then I would consider it a sport! However, golf is my favorite sport and I guess you could consider the course the defense, especially one like Augusta National or one of the US Open courses, like Oakmount or Pebble Beach! Nascar is certainly a dangerous undertaking with various degrees of "athletes" trying to get to the checkered flag first while carrying out their family fueds at the same time! Good question Unclebill.

I would have to say it's dangerous entertainment.Or just a really fast carnival ride...remember bumper cars? Although competition is the name of the game here I guess. Perhaps the drivers are in fact a type of athlete since they must endure challenging obstacles such as road conditions, long races (endurance), and must have great reflexes. My only dislike of this sport is that there are too many things that can go wrong (fatal errors if you will). One cannot "crash and burn" on a football field. Sure, you can break you neck but you ain't goin up in flames..(which gives me the creeps if you get my drift). So to answer your question Bill, a little of both....cheers....Brent

here is the definition of a sport: sport (spĂ´rt, sprt) n. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
An active pastime; recreation.
Sounds like anything can be a sport, Sex seems to fit that definition.

Yeah, sex could be a sport by that definition. Especially the competative part. I'm undefeated. After every session, I proudly exclaim "I Win!".
