Is was and always will be unconstitutional. The act was basically blackmailing the states into passing a uniform national drinking age of 21 or lose a portion of thier national highway funds. The actual bill required "all States to raise their minimum drinking age to 21 within 2 years or lose a portion of their Federal-aid highway funds; and encourage States, through incentive grants programs, to pass mandatory
sentencing laws to combat drunk driving." (Thomas Senate Record Vote Analysis)The portion of the Federal-aid highway funds that would be lost if the state
didn't comply amounted to 5 percent in the third year and 10 percent in the fourth year.Esentially an end around states rights. Most states up until 1984 had an 18 yr drinking age for beer and 21 for alcohol, some states had a 19 yr old drinking age for all alcohol.

America must lower drinking age, enforce responsibility

Now some liberal will hammer the twins over the law and the improper way they are brought up. I think Barbara Bush hit it pretty good with her tounge in cheek remark about "George W getting back some of what he caused her.........!" Charlie

A lot better role model than "I didn't inhale" Clinton. At least GWB as lived up to his past problems and no longer drinks alcohol! Charlie

Are you suggesting that since you dont agree with the law that it is o.k. to break it?

No, I am not suggesting that it is "ok" to break the law that we don't agree with, I am merely suggesting that many laws are "relaxed" and not enforced to the full extent of the law....certainly drinking underage should be enforced or done away with; however, I do not think that it is a crime that warrants the national attention that some media outlets deem necessary. If he would just face up to it, it would go away.

Ignoring an issue will not make it go away. They should face up to the issue. Deal with it and set an example for the nation.

By acting as if there is nothing untoward about this, the president is sending a signal that it it o.k. to drink when under 21. It is o.k. to steal government property in the form of identification cards. That it is o.k. to risk the liscence of a purveyor of booze.

Uncle, face up to what? This is a private family matter. Yes, he is the President and the nation should be aware of the event. But did the media want to know how Bubba handled Hillary after the Lewinsky ordeal? The event is public knowledge. The family resolution should be private. Grow up.

I disagree. It is not O.K. for the President to condone law violations by his family. He is, in effect, saying it it o.k., what she did, by saying nothing about it. If he disagrees with the law, the proper course of action is to lobby to change the law, not ignore it.

Hey Bill it seems you are in the minority here and I also agree with Rick, Jim and Joe, on the way this should be handled (and I am sure it has been)! In private, not all over the news as the Liberal media seem to want this to be done to embarrass the President! Grow up Bill and for once don't take the "wrong" side each and every time! Charlie
