Why is the Liberal Left always blaming tax cuts on the federal deficit? Don't they realize that lower taxes do not create the deficit? Can't they figure out that SPENDING is the cause? I received a faxed questionaire several months back asking if I wanted a tax cut OR money for medicare and social security. As if the choice was either-or. How do these same people explain to the family on the street that they can't afford to provide food and shelter while at the same time they are funding a study on the winter migration habits of humped back whales? We can NOT provide everything for everybody. It is impossible and should not even be a goal. This is America. We provide the OPPORTUNITY to succeed. We do not make success a constitutional right. And we should not tax everybody to death to attempt it.

"Why is the Liberal Left always blaming tax cuts on the federal deficit?" i don't know. "Don't they realize that lower taxes do not create the deficit?" no they don't, but they do know that reagan took the deficit to the moon and back, and this new idiot is shooting for the sun. fortunately, he is a lame duck president in less than 6 months. it will be impossible to load the supreme court with more scalias, renquists or clarences. the first two ideologues and the last just an average civil service lawyer with nothing of importance to say.

So I can expect about a whopping $100 for my great tax cut. First it was because the economy was so good and the surpluss so big, then it was for to stimulate the economy by giving people more money, and now it is to give us money to spend on our higher electricity bills which he will do nothing about. Meanwhile, the electric companies are averaging a 400-500% profit increase over last year. But their $250million contribution assures that the President will turn a blind eye to individual citizens. In the campaign Bush promised to "jawbone" OPEC for better prices, but now he has waffled AGAIN, saying he, won't be "begging or publicly bashing to get more oil". All the while it is us that are suffering from higher prices, and it is his oil-rich administration and family that is profiting from the higher prices. Bush IS a special interest.

So Reagan took the surplus to the moon. The congress
controls the purse strings. The Dems spend spend & spend on all their "special interests". Reagan just got the military spending which ended the cold war by bankrupting the soviets. He was the greatest president
in my lifetime ( I'm 48). He made us proud to be Americans again unlike Carter and Clinton.
As for the energy problem in California if you let everyone & their brother into the country and refuse to
build new power plant this is what happens. It's simple supply and demand. It's either close the borders
and kickout the illegals or build more infrastructure
which will not envirormently friendly because when you build you destroy green space.
You want energy but you want to drive an SUV and you don't want to drill in a small part of the arctic for
oil. The energy has to come from somewhere!

That's a good thing because you going to need to protect yourself.... from yourself.

The problem is not only the excessive energy demand. The recent shortages have only called attention to that issue. The recent shortages are due to the supply being cut off in order to increase prices. This will not be looked into because the only one that can do the looking is the one that's profiting.

Unclebill, its funny that you should suggest that Bush fight OPEC and it's higher prices, since OPEC came into existance at the suggestion of a Democratically controlled American government in 1960. They thought that they could help out our oil producing allies by forming OPEC and putting in production controls to reduce the glut of oil on the market. Kennedy was a great President for a democrat, but he too had his share of gaffs like Clinton... sex, scandal and the Vietnam war.

Glenn makes a great point about California and the way we let everybody and his son, daughter, brother mother, etc into the state from Mexico! Then we give them citizenship for the right to reproduce like animals and all the middle class drives SUV's or have monster RV's that suck gas like ticks on a skinny dog and do nothing to create energy for the evergrowing population......until the "Great" Gray Davis decides "we have an energy crisis!" "Whoops, blame the Bush family, they have oil interest and we can push the blame in their direction....and the Vice President must have had something to do with this problem". In the meantime, Gray Davis is skipping down the road singing "If I only had a brain!", and playing every angle he can to spin the blame away from himself.......who was for deregulation of the power companies (Davis)! Now our brilliant Governor wants to sue the United States for his problems, and at the same time maintain his posture that "I don't want to drill or explore for gas and oil!"...It will be magically created by somebody other than the residents of California. He is a disgrace as a Governor and he fits in well with our two goofy US Senators(Boxer and Finestein)! No Brains, No Heart, No Nerve.......Sounds like they should "Follow the Yellow Brick Road!" Ok, so the conversation has switched to the electrical shortage and oil prices. Funny how Unclebill knows that the utility companys had a 500% increase in profits, yet can not figure out how the shortages occurred because the "only one that can do the looking is the one that's profiting". Tell me just who, then, was looking at their profits? Don't muddy the waters with half-facts. The Liberal Media bash the republicans for the new shortages, and at the same time resist EVERY means to increase supply. Conservation is a real solution, but it is indeed very long term. Too bad the last administration didn't push harder for it... So now we are left with the only thing democrats know: Sue somebody.

charlie: shame on you, "Then we give them citizenship for the right to reproduce like animals" i do believe i detect a bit of racism. but you are correct about davis and the two women who represent the lollypop guild. incidentally both my wife's and my car get 25+ on the road. her car is 7 years old and has 32,000 miles, about 90% on the road to vegas. my car is 6 years old and has 37,000 miles. we are not big consumers of gas. suv's are almost all bought by wives with small families that could just as easily fit in a standard size car. suv's are a woman's thing.

Enron one of the major power-sellers to the state is a publicly traded company. Their profits are public. Bush should order the investigation, but he will not since he is the one who is profitting.

Unklebill, are you implying that all of the electrical utility companies supplying California have the same increase in profits? Could Enron's newly found profits be the results of improved efficiency? Or perhaps their profits were simply very low in previous years thereby making a 500% improvement very easy to achieve. I am not suggesting that these are the facts, but you need to look at ALL the reasons for the current situation. You seem to blame Bush, but these problems were inevitable based on simply supply vs demand. Bush has been in office 5 months, so I doubt he could have created the shortage already. The situation is grave, and may affect many more areas of the country very soon. Looking for blame is counterproductive. We need to look for solutions, and our VP Cheney is doing just that.

Rick, stating that illegal immigrants reproduce like animals is not a racist remark. To suggest that it is shows hyper-sensitivity to a real life issue.
