Let me start by saying that I don't agree with this assesment, but it was interesting: I once spoke to an otherwise intelligent fellow about many of the ills in society. At the time, unemployment was high, inflation was rampant, drug use was out of control, teen pregnancy, etc. He stated, emphatically, that is was due to ONE THING. Working Women. When I laughed, he went on to explain. If women didn't work, the number of available jobs would increase. Average household income would drop, and inflation would slow down. House prices that got out of hand because of DINKs (Double Income No Kids)would level off. Stay at home moms would have better control of their kids. Keep them in school, keep them away from drugs, teach them proper sex education. My feelings went from disbelief to begrudgingly "thinking about it". Now, I don't support this other than to say that I am very happy that my wife stays at home with my three kids. It may put us at a disadvantage financially, but it's worth it. I don't make her stay home, it's her choice and we can afford it because we made the adjustments necessary. But what if he's right? Can America get back to the safety and morality of the 1950's? This is not a proposal, but a point of discussion and I'd like to hear from both sides.

very interesting post. my wife worked until she was pregnant a few months and than left the money work force. she was home with the kids until they were about 8 and they could take care of themselves. wash their clothes, do a little cleaning, and do enough cooking so they wouldn't starve. in the summer, we arranged my work so i could be home at noon on friday and we could all go camping somewhere for the weekend at least every other week. we did with furniture that couldn't be sold at a goodwill. birthday and christmas presents were all from second hand stores.
i have read some statistics that the second income, after expenses for day care and the normal expenses for the working wife, does not provide a lot of extra money. the tax bracket changes also and so the government takes more. for the 40 hours a full time job doesn't seem to net more than a few dollars per hour. i agree completely with you completely. mom shold be home to give the children a home to live in, not a building. tv is not a baby sitter. kids ought to be able to read and write before they go to school. like all mammals, the rearing of the young is the most important function parents have.

Careful, Rick, or they might take away your lifetime pass to the Liberal Ball... Doesn't sound like you were on the "it takes a village" bandwagon.

Oh sh*t I was laughing so hard I almost forgot. Tailgater your friend is absolutely correct in his theory. If it wasn't for two income households, one income households wouldn't have such a hard time.Afterall they can only charge us what we can afford to pay, else who would be able to buy???

Stop it Rick,YOU ARE starting to scare me.LOL.You see we also used to go camping at least twice a month also, usually more (spring through fall anyway). The boys are getting to old now (22+15) to hang whith the old man all the time though.Well me and the youngest 15 are still pretty active, but even he has other things to do whith his freinds and that.Sometimes I wish he could have stayed 10 forever but all you can do is give them a good start and hope for the best.Their going to make mistakes, thats just part of growing up.Me,if I had it to do all over again.I'd still make the same mistakes,I'd just get started a hell of a lot sooner. :o)

Actually, I saw your original post prior to the censor. You spelled it wrong anyways. I made no comment because it reeked of sarcasm as I am sure it was intended. See you at the next David Duke Rally...

One can only infer that the moderators of this board beleive that it is Right that Women got the vote before Sub-Saharan Americans.
