I hear Shaq speak, he seemingly undoes 1000 years of evolution in one sentence. It's really too bad. I've heard interviews with him and he's actually somewhat intelligent. But he comes off like an idiot and the worst part about it is that it is blatantly on purpose. He must think it's "cool" to sound like a fool. Too bad most of his fans agree...

i agree. what??? i don't see why he does it. he is not a dope by any means. maybe it's like the commercial he does twirling the ribbon. the kid in him comes out and he appears to be having fun.

Agree that he sounds horrible, but it is all a facade and that is what I don't understand! Why does he want to do that? He is educated and super smart, but prefers to come off "duuuuuuuuuuh"! Charlie

I think Shaq is one of the few class acts left in the NBA along with his teammate, Kobe Bryant. You rarily see them whine off or on court and they actually show up for the press conference to be interviewed. Allen Iverson, who somehow received the MVP, is another story. He's a punk who thinks the world owes him something. I guess making 11 million dollars a year will do that to you. By the way, I'm not a Lakers fan! I just appreciate good sportsmanship as it is a rarity these days! Todog

It's not Shaq's class or sportsmanship that I abhor. He's a true warrior with no real competition on the court. It's his obvious "stupid n*gger" attitude that makes me sick. People wonder where stereotypes come from. Kids emulate him, and they sound like idiots. Problem is, kids don't know he's acting. They think being dumb is cool. Afterall, Shaq does it... And don't attack me for using the above phrase. I think it's a sin when educated adults act like buffoons on a daily basis. I've got a 20 year old "kid" that works for me and he mumbles just like Shaq. I can't understand him. After the third request to repeat his sentence he finally articulates properly. He's doing it on purpose (or subconciously). Either way, I never heard kids talk like they had a mouth full of **** prior to the last couple of years with Shaq in the spotlight doing the same. I guess it's just "fashionable". What a waste.

tailgator: there is a different generation out there now. i don't think we have seen this before and shaq is not the cause, nor is it the "right wing bleeding heart hippies". 2 incidents. a friend of mine, who also is my computor guro, is 25. he says he can relate to my age group easier than to 23 year olds. he says he does not even understand their thinking process. the other. one of my clients is a college professor. he told me that in the 16 + years of teaching and watching new generation after new generation, the freshman class last year was so different than any other freshman class he has ever taught. he said "i can't reach them. they do their work and respond in class, but they are like zombies. they have no interest in anything on their own." don't blame the left or the right. it is a phenomena we have never seen.

Topdog, I agree with you on Kobe and Shaq, and I hate basketball. They are top notch as far as class and sportsmanship!

If Kobe and Shaq embodied all of that class and sportsmanship, it wouldn't have taken Phil Jackson to get the championship back to LA. The Lakers have had the best team talent-wise for some time now, but their egos got in the way of success. Only recently has their Showmanship been replaced by sportsmanship. They are not heros in my book. Of course, if the Celtics could somehow acquire them, then that's another story...
