Rick and Uncle, the only left-minded individuals on this forum, have hit two key points of healthcare: Basic coverage and prescriptions. We could write a book on both, but don't blame "private sector" as being an evil entity. Fact is, no one is "refused" healthcare. Go in to ANY emergency room and see all of the uninsured. I agree that lower income families need coverage. If the government wants to play doctor, then they could open clinics in areas where it is needed. The government should NOT take control of the industry in general. What makes you think that Kennedy knows more about proper healthcare than the president of an HMO? Many countries have socialized heatlthcare. No country has BETTER healthcare. Why can't America realize that? As for prescriptions, I agree with Rick (gasp) that the situation is outrageous. The problem, however, is the individuals and the doctors, not the insurance providers. Doctors need to stop overprescibing and people need to treat pills like the expensive treatment that they are. Do you honestly think that the proper use of pills will improve once the government takes over and provides "free" prescriptions? I agree that the Healthcare needs to be revamped. But Government takeover is a joke. And the McCain/Kennedy bill will CREATE MORE UNINSURED. Because it allows individuals to sue their employer for choosing the healthcare provider. Employers will no longer cover employees, but will instead give cash towards insurance, which will be used to buy beer and cigarettes. Now these "poor, helpless victims" will have no health insurance. And you'll cry for Socialism to save their sorry asses. Liberals always do...
