I need some help. Could not find the info using the search function. I know I've seen it on these boards. Finally the question. What do B's, C's etc. correspond to?

TG,
I thought that was a secret. Prices seem to have been slipping a little lately and I attributed that to a bit of ignorance on the part of general cbidding population. Wouldn't mind keeping it that way. I'm convinced that there's no better regular deal anywhere than on these; hope it stays that way AND that there's a steady supply of these.

Oh yeah...and....you've heard of 2nds?....these are crappy, inconsistent, horrible tasting garbage 4ths.

To each his own, I suppose.
I didn't like any of the X-OUTS I won: "A" toro mads, "C" torpedo corojos & mads, "D" toros.
Practically the only RP stick I like is the OR Edge mad torp.

^ There the same as the originals that TG listed above. What I do believe IS different is that the originals are aged longer, as I've noticed some serious ammonia issues with some of the X-Outs that I never had with their non-second counterparts. Age them and your all set with sticks like the OWR and Decades at a fraction of their non-second partners.

^ Brian - this is one time, I do not agree. IMO the X-out C was not even close to the OWR. Maybe, like you said, too young, but the flavor was off.

But, if ya like'm, smoke'm.

^ditto. I"m pretty sure they ship the 2nds and x-outs while the 1sts are box-aging. I have some "C" corojo and maddy, "B," and "D," as well as both Vintage 2nds. They seem to be getting better with age, and I'm gonna guess that after about a year they really will be just as good--I'll let you know!

One thing is for sure--in the case of the OWR and Decade, these x-outs really are a steal!!

Hey Ken, I have a bundle of XO OWR's aging, and two bundles of XO Decades. I've only tried a couple of the XO Decades so far, and both were loaded with ammonia, so I figured they'd not been box aged (why would they bother at these blow out prices?).

I haven't tried the XO OWR's yet, but I suspect their in the same boat at the XO Decades.

I've won a couple bundles of the B's Torpedos.. Not even close to the originals..Not in wrapper color, and not in taste. sub par cheap bundle cigars.. IMO... I'm telling it like it is..

There might be a few decent smokes in the A - E series, but buyer beware... again IMO.

Actually, I had an XO OWR ott, and thought it tasted awesome. Not quite a "real thing" but close. After some aging, they'll only get better.

One noticable difference to me is the smell of the wrappers. The "real" OWR corojo wrappers are intoxicating, whereas the XOs have very little aroma. I"m sure this is due to both the extra age as well as the slight box-press.

FWIW, this is what I THINK I know about ammonia smell.
It results from poor curing when "hands" of tabac are hung in the barn...not enough time to cure, iow.

No amount of aging will change that situation; if cigars were rolled with poorly cured, ammonia-smelling tobacco, they will always give off that smell.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

I don't see what that has to do with what I posted.
But you can look into it if it interests you.

Ammonia is a compound that is naturally released from all fermented tobacco.

Most sticks experience this within a few months of being rolled, others such as the PSD4, are notorious for being smokable early on and then releasing ammonia after six or seven months and taking another six/seven months to get right again. {The ammonia smell can be detected before lighting if they come out of a closed environment (like your humi) as opposed to a B&M walk in.}

This is commonly referred to the "sick" period. This lends even more credence to our theory that the XOs are not aged as much after being rolled. I know that the "real" OWRs are box-aged for at least 1 year after being rolled (so that any ammonia that remains won't be noticeable). If they do indeed ship the XOs after less age, then it could be that some of them would still have a slight note of ammonia.

AGAIN--this does not mean the tobacco is bad, it has nothing to do with that at all. Ammonia is just as natural as plume (just opposite in terms of desirability). The smell/taste will disappear with time if the cigar is stored properly.

re#14--

This could also be true--that if tobacco isn't cured enough, the ammonia smell/taste may linger longer. I don't know about that.

But all the tobacco for the XOs and Seconds are aged for YEARS, so that's certianly not the problem here.

For the record, none of my X-OUTS smelled or tasted like ammonia.
They just didn't taste very good, and were overpriced IMO.

If you can afford to smoke the 1sts, do it :) I can't, lol, so I'm happy to by a "near OWR" for like $2.50/stick.

When I find Decades or OWR for $3/stick, I'll buy a case or two.
