Does anyone know if the Hoya de Niacargua blowout special cigars are the same cigars as Joya de Nicaragua? If they are, then did they change the style of their bands?

I have wondered the same thing. To my knowledge the Joya version is still the same. This makes me believe the Hoya version is entirely a new line....I could be wrong but it seems like I have seen these two brands somewhere separate and aside from one another. Sorry I can be of no more help than this hunch.

Geez.. I just bidded on a couple packs! Didnt even pick up on the "Hoya".. Have had the "Joya's" and was a
little quick on the draw... Kinda tricky play on words I might add. Oh well, a buck a stick cant be all bad.. ehh ? I'll let ya know if I got shafted..

The two brands have been around awhile. According to Perleman's "Hoja De Nicaragua" is produced of all Nicaraguan tobacco in Esteli, Nicaragua and "Joya De Nicaragua is also produced in Esteli, Nicaragua of Nicaraguan filler but with a Costa Rican or Ecuadorian wrapper.

I think the cigars are related, but just looking at the cigar band I can see it is completely different than the other. I have heard wind of this coming, apparently the Hoya are being dumped on the market. We talked about the Joya's before, I really like them, very spicey and full bodied, I have enjoyed both the Robusto size which packs a nice punch and the Vijante size, a huge stick, and with a more milder but very pleasant taste. I doubt I will be bidding on these blowouts, but I wouldn't mind trying one to compare to the other.

I have smoked both...they are very different smokes. In my opinion the Joya is a better stick, but the Hoya isn't bad either. Definitely worth a buch a stick.

The Hoja de Nicaragua should not be confused with the Joya de Nicaragua, although it's pretty clear that they tried to rip off the name to some extent - they even named many of the sizes the same, like Viajante and Consul, etc. Nevertheless the Hoja is a good Nicaraguan smoke and good value for a buck each.

Yes, "Hoya de Nicaragua" translates to "leaf of Nicaragua", and Joya De Nicaragua means "Pride of Nicaragua." Certainly the Joyas are a more well-reputed smoke, but for $1 a stick (and gift boxes for friends), it makes a good deal.
