wrap it in a moist towel and leave it for about 15 or 30 minutes, the humidity should then read 100%, if not adjust it so it does.

Also, make sure you grasp the outer rim of the hygrometer firmly when you adjust the setting by turning the screw setting on the back. Otherwise, the whole internal part will turn.

My method requires no mechanical know-how, but does require that you know how to add and subtract: You need a digital hygrometer first, then you can calibrate your analog hygrometers. What you do is place both hygrometers in your humidor for about 5 minutes, then compare the two readings. If your digital reads 70 and your analog reads 75, then you know how far off your analog is. From then on, just subtract 5 from your analog readings. I hope this helps you, let me know.

that's another can of worms. Just for **** and giggles I put three different hydros in my humidor with no cigars in the box. Checked next day and the readings were not even close... these chinese pieces of crap !!!

isn't that the truth, I still have four of the digital ones, and put all of them in the cabinet, that has a hydrometer that I am assurred is of a professional accuracy, didn't matter, all five had different readings anyway, the temperature was close on all of them, but the humidity varied up to 15%!

That's weird aberdeen. What digital hygrometers are you using so I know not to ever purchase them. The test I described above worked fine for me and my analog is one of those "chinese pieces of crap" ;) Anyway, you really only need one hygrometer anyway. I have 7 different humidors I use the same one for, I just keep jumping from one 'dor to the next to check them out.

fill a two liter soda bottle cap with salt. Put drops of water into the salt until it is completely wet-out, but not soupy. Put the cap into a short, stout glass. Put in hydrometer. Cover tightly overnite. The reading should be 75%, if not, adjust it quickly so it is. I find this works more accurately than the wet towel approach.

tailgater has the best approach for ALL hygrometers, that's called the salt test. Do what tailgater said.
