We all realize how terrible the events of 9-11 were. I don't doubt for one second that tens of thousands of families have been affected forever. But why are the victims getting 1.5 million bucks? As heinous as the crimes were that day, this money won't bring back the dead. And the loss of their loved one is no greater than the loss of loved ones across the country each and every day (at least not at the individual, personel level). So why must our government, no, why must WE pay a dangerously high amount to the victims' families? It may "feel good" now, but there is no justification for ANY money, nevermind $ 1.5MM, which many are actually complaining about as being too little.

I don't get it either TG except it's a huge bailout for the airlines and the city of New York and thats all it is.If the families accept federal funds they give up the right to sue the airline companies invovled and the city.I just don't get it?

I agree. There are thousands of people that suffer through catastrophes every year. What make these poeples suffering any greater that theirs and deserving of all this cash. What did they do to earn this money. I dont understand the liberal concept that we need to give cash and benifits to people who are unwilling to do anything to EARN it. this whole thing really pisses me off. cj

Let's take this one step further: Why should the victims be able to sue the airlines anyhow? The terrorists did not take on any weapons other than small knives and box cutters. What were the airlines supposed to do? This was not a security breach, nor were any of the passengers forced to be on those flights. Let's call a spade a spade. This was a horrific tragedy. Unforseen, and therefore unavoidable. The ONLY ones to blame are the terrorists and those who provide their funding. To think otherwise is simply an attempt to shift responsiblity and gain financial benefit. In other words, to take advantage of American Kindness. How is that viewed as the right thing to do???

Reality, Yes! Shunning responsiblity, No! I am the only source of income for my family. If something were to happen to me would the Federal Government give my wife and kids 1.5 million? Money doesn't make things right again. We can't let compassion dictate fiscal responsibility.

I totally agree, if i died tommorow my wife would get my life insurance, but thats it. 1.5 million that is ridiculous most of us will never make that much in a lifetime, how can they justify that. I am not without compassion here, but also i think we need to be realistic.

Just finished reading a story in the current "Newsweek" that details the tons and tons of supplies that were donated by corporations and private citizens to the 9/11 relief effort. Most of it never was distributed to the intended recepients because it
A: wasn't needed and B: was logistically impossible to give away. I don't think that federal funds should be handed out until the hundreds of thousands of dollars donated by indivduals and corporations for these families is exhausted.

All this is is more proof that LAWYERS are sucking this country dry. If they think they can make a buck they will tell you how you were wronged and how you can be compensated for it. Did the families in Oklahoma get compensated? Or the famillies of the sailors on the USS Cole?
