I have been hearing alot about this bill lately. I am all for candidates being limited on how much influence money they can accept. I am not too sure about the addition of keeping special interest groups from running negative adds in the 60 days before an election. Seems like an infringement of the 1st amendment. What's the upside to this addition for the average Joe? Why would McCain agree to it? He talks high ideals. Is he as much a stinker as any politician?

xrundog: if it wasn't for special interest groups and the billions of dollars put out for the bush campaign and the negative, lying, bs campaign against mccain in that state that he lost and effectively took him, mccain out of the race, do you think any intelligent society would have elected the nincompoop to any position other than file clerk. come on, who would want some one who spent his life protected by the influence his daddy provided, someone with reasonable clues to heavy drinking and drug use, someone who not only got special preference so he wouldn't have to go to war and get a booboo, and still went awol from his preferential treatment, someone who is obviously a complete dope, in charge of anything?

Yeah, I see your point Rick. But on the flip side, if there are no ads against a candidate, said candidate can tell any lies in the last 60 days and noone can rebut. I would rather see the fur fly! I can sort it out myself. To anyone who votes for the best looking guy it aint gonna matter either way. Someone is trying to pull a fast one! Whats next? An amendment making it illegal to criticize an elected official?

This goes deeper than you think. The recent voting in Massachusetts had a bill called "clean election act". Who wouldn't want clean elections? The problem lies in the fact that the bill puts tax payer money into the election funds. Do you think the bill would have passed with a more accurate name? These bills are driven by the socialist party (democrats) and the damn republicans are following suit only to appear "bipartisan". It's a shame.

Rick, you set out a lot of bait in your last post. I won't bite, other than to state the obvious. Yes, Dubya had a lot of accusations against him. So why couldn't Gore win? He's a good, clean looking guy with little baggage. He was number two man behind the president that America was in love with for 8 years. He should have carried every state. but he couldn't even carry is own. Don't blame the anti-McCain ads on Bush's election. Blame the democrats. And while you're at it, let's all thank God that McCain didn't win. He's a One-trick pony.

I don't know who to blame for you can't spell dubya without du. But I do feel sick about campaign finance. Some of the point is that millions of dollars can be collected by an organization based anywhere. Then, they can slam millions into adds for races anywhere in the country. These people have no interest whatsoever in the needs or wants of that district. Just the desire to get 51 votes in the Senate.

tailgater: i think the word is chumming. why didn't gore win? he screwed up constantly and gave the impression (rightfully) that he had nothing to stand for. whether you like bush or not, he handeled the arena correctly and made gore look like a complte ass. i truly don't believe gore wanted to win badly enough to fight. this of course in no ways changes my belief that bush is and is not .

Gore simply lost because he was/is and always will be a loser! We need some kind of campaign reform, but I do not think these guys will be able to agree on what is in each sides best interest! It probably isn't going to happen and if it does it will have so many loop holes built in that they might as well not pass the damn thing! Charlie

Funny how the left always says it was OK for our president to have sex with a young intern while conducting important public business, and then to LIE about it, yet they continually remind us that Bush had a DUI about 100 years ago. Careful with that axe, Eugene...

You can't get run over by consenting adults having sex (unless one is driving a car at the time).

It's not the sex that is at issue. Can't you understand that? It was the sex with a fat chick that makes me upset...
