Garage Heaters?

Anybody know anything about how effective the 30,000 BTU natural gas wall or free standing heaters are. $189 at Menards. These are ventless too. Supposedly heats up to 1,000 sq. ft. LMK GREG
I was thinking about making it portable. My overhead door is about 30 ft. from my natural gas quick disconnect fitting for my grill. I figured if I got myself a 35 ft. line with the quick disconnect fittings I could hook it up when I needed it.

Do you need to heat your garage while you smoke your cigars? If yes, a cheaper alternative is to get a propane heater. Go to your local hardware store and get a single burner (40 bucks)attach it to a propane tank and youre all set.

My buddy has one of those wall heaters. It sucks. Worked fine for a little while, it's been a shelf for the past few years.

thats what i did.. they also have a double burner for like 10 bucks more i was debating on that but figured it would burn up 2x as much fuel..

My brother has one of the double burners. Don't know how much gas it uses but I know it throws out some heat. We used it in our garage one New Years Eve, it was about 20 outside and nice and warm in the garage. We even had a window open for ventilation.

As a point of reference I get about 10 hours out of a full size propane tank with my 46,000 BTU outdoor heater

A full size propane tank is what size? I was looking at 20 - 100 lb. tanks?

I've got a kerosene heater that works real well... trouble I have is finding a place that sells kerosene in bulk.. it's too expensive to buy a gallon a time at the hardware store...

It's 63F right now and will go down to 40F by morning. Time to pull the electric heater out. Hell, I actuall wore pants, a long sleveles shirt, socks and a jacket to work today.

I've been stubborn and have refused to recognize winter but I grabbed a coat today... and it was actually warmer today than yesterday...

As long as you keep it a couple of feet from the wall you should be fine. My single burner gets my 2 car garage nice and warm in about 30 minutes. I have a box fan that i turn on every 1/2 hour for about 20 seconds just to circulate the warm air in the garage. 1 tank lasts me the entire winter....but I do not smoke in the garage daily. regardless....a 20 dollar propane tank will be cheaper than running your electric bill through the roof with a space heater or heaters.Herfing

I have to get something for the porch. I was looking at Mr. Heater today. Are they any good? How long will a 20 lb cylinder last?

If you are looking for a heater, I would recommend the patio heater I use. It is a 46,000btu patio heater I had purchased from Costco for $139 delivered. Lasts about 10 hours with the 20lb cylinder. Only downside is if it is windy, it obviously doesn't work nearly as well. All the heat radiates down, not up. Was initially concerned about the vinyl on the porch ceiling and ceiling fan blades melting. But has not been a problem, you can actually put your hand a few inches about the top and there is not much heat.

Well I picked up the Mr. Heater 40,000-80,000 BTU. It's an upright Galvanized metal cylinder that has holes. Its burner is awesome! Heated my garage no problem. Got about 10 hrs. on a 20lb. cylinder. I love it!

how's the fumes and smell? I used to use a torpedo heater but it was way too loud and it gave me the worst headaches in my small 2 car garage. I'm sure I would need to vent the garage a bit but I still need to stay warm. Supposed to be like 10 degrees in Chicago next week.

Every now and then I think of getting a portable heater too. I mean, sheesh, how’s a guy supposed to smoke out in an open garage when the temps dip below 70?!?! 🥶

Well, you probably have a nice ocean breeze so 70° might feel like 65°. $hit, I'd go skinny dipping at 65° temps. (prolly would scare the neighbors way though which might be an added benefit).

70 degrees from a "nice" ocean breeze is NOT preferred! Shame on you

Nonetheless, iffin' the humidity stays in the 65+ range, it's not too bad. I'll take hot and steamy over cold and dry any day, any way.

I'll trade you most any day. Here's my accuweather forecast

https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/gardner/01440/hourly-weather-forecast/333620

Thinking I might walk down to the sauna at our on site gym for a good sweat before it closes tonight at 10. Could probably do some exercise but that sounds like too much work.
