220...221...whatever it takes.

Try them both. See what one you like. I used to belong to both. The Costco was just farther away.

Costco is a lot better with free 2nd year warranties on electronic and the fact that they handle the problm right in the store for you plus free help for 2 years.. They have great food but i think Sams has a better selection, I dropped Sams and joined BJ's as a secondary club because they sell in smaller quantities. Costco is worth it just for the Free food!

I would go Costco as a first choice and then you will know. They are the number 1 retailer in the world in growth for a reason..

^ This.

I have memberships to both Costco and Sam's and if the Sam's membership weren't free due to someone else putting me on their card, I wouldn't bother with it.

Like Jack says, Sam's does often have a greater selection, but I find that for the items I buy, the quality and pricing at Costco is superior.

Go with DMV's suggestion then.

I think that you can get "day passes" from both of them if you go to the membership desk and tell them that you are contemplating a membership, but would like to try the place out once before committing.

Well azz, I work for Sams Club so naturally I can't make an honest statement without some reflection of my own self.
I think all 3 wholesales have a different advantage and disadvantage. Also each club varies by the employees and management that staff and manage the facility

1 day passes are offered but at selected times and with a 1 day pass, you pay a 10% up charge on your entire purchase as a fee. If you own or operate a business than you get a savings on your membership plus extra benefits. The products, warranties, savings, environment etc are all different per club and wholesaler. Sans club tends to be more economical, lower costs and mid range selection, best buy for the buck. Costco is more upscale, higher quality, higher costs and fewer selection, but deff higher end and different standards, but not to say absolutely better.
BJ's is mid range, they are between the 2. Less known now but actually use to be ranked #1 in business until Costco and sams outgrew them

I never said to actually buy anything with the day pass. It's just a way of getting past the hall monitor at the front door and into the store so you can look around and compare prices and selections. :)

Ha ha ha, if you were to have business cards or something proving you operate, own or franchise for them, yea you could actually qualify as a business operator

My wife and I compared both places and we ended up going with Costco. For us, Costco has a better selection of the things we buy and a liqour store that you don't need to be a member to shop at.

True, but that only works at the locations where the tire shop has it's own external door for customer access and a passage/door into the main warehouse. A lot of the ones around here are set up with the customer tire shop access being through the inside of the warehouse only. Within the last few years, at least three of the Costcos in this area which were originally built with external entrance doors for the tire shop have removed the doors, filled in the exterior wall and cut large openings in the wall between the warehouse and the customer side of the shop so that all customer access is via the warehouse only now.

We have a Costco and a Sam's in the area. Costco is always busier.

I've been a member for quite awhile now. I like it. I've gotten some great deals there, plus the meat department is awesome. Choice and up, no select.

Costco for sure! Sorry Scott. My Sams is pretty ghetto and the quality is not near as good. But try them both.

Costco is the chit. We've been executive members for many years now, and they actually pay us to be memebers with the 2% cash back that's part of the program.

I don't know anything about Sams club other than I've been to one in Mexico and bought some good cheap tequila n'stuff.

You don't have to be a member to buy alcohol at Sams either. The pharmacy is also open to the public at Sams.

Sams has the Plus membership which also you up to 2% cash back on all purchases made with the sams discover card. That membership also gives you additional discounts on merch you buy everytime you shop. They're called evalues.

Sams Club has a special event going on thru the 25th where all members get to try evalues without being a Plus Member. Good time to shop and save some extra bucks.

member to both. Costco is quite a bit farther away, but we go their 3 out of 4 times. Better meat, cheese, beer selection, produce, snack food selection. Sams has my tubs of sourdough pretzels for the bar and dog treats.

^ one of the best parts about Costco...

The quality of the meat. To include the price. I don't buy it anywhere else. Doesn't hurt that they get cases of good beer either. Ive bought the last 3 sets of tires from them and booked 3 vacations through their travel site.

Why I haven't bought their stock I don't know...but I should.

What sold me for life...I had a Samnsung PC monitor I'd bought close to two years prior crap out on me. Wouldnt turn on. I took it back to Costco, no receipt, no box, no nuthin. Just the monitor and cords. Not a single question was asked...and they gave me a cash card for $200 and a change. I bought a brand new, nicer monitor...and went home with cash. Costco warranty program is second to none.

It depends on your local clubs. I've been a member of Sams for probably 20+ years, and a Executive member of Costco for the past 10. They both have their strong points and weaknesses, hence why I am still a member of both. Here in SJ, Sams is less expensive and has a better selection. From what I've heard from the raves of others, our Costco must s*ck. Many a time I've found expired meats and produce on their shelves.

In Winston-Salem (shopping at the RV), the Costco is a much then our club, and seems to be on par with the Sams there.

Also, with both Sams and Costco, in store pricing varies from club to club. The same items are always less expensive at the Winston Salem Costco as they are up here. We also have 4 Sams clubs within a half hour, and I've found the same items to be priced different in each club.

So, check out the actual clubs you will be going to, before making a decision.
