Hey folks. Just got on the site last weekend. I was really happy to get a 5 pack of RP Vintage 92's and a Padron '64 Sup. Maduro for $38. That being said, I guess you could say I'm fairly new to all this. The Padron is easily my favorite stick thus far (still waiting to see how the mail order one turns out). RP 90 is my go to, I love the RP fifteenth, and I've dabbled around with Arturo Fuente among others.Herfing So needless to say, I prefer medium-full bodied stick. Any advice on some reasonably priced winners would be greatly appreciated!

Hey thanks! Glad to be here. Kind of stumbled across the site and had closed both bids by the end of the day. The Garcia's look tantalizing, but I'll show my true noob colors when I say I dont have a humidor. I have a temp that I cooked up myself, but only enough room for 5. QMPASH, I keep hearing good thingd about Gurkhas, but have avoided acid since my first encounter. Can't remember which one it was, but far too sweet. Thanks for the ideas!

Please take note of Sarcasm at the end of the previous post.... And almost all here are Gurkha haters, but not everybody.

Ha. Wasn't sure if you meant all of them or just the last. I didn't want to be rude, so I wasn't even going to touch a response to hesitant pirate.

That was "tongue-in-cheek." It was meant as a gag. The only Gurkhas I like, (and many will NOT agree with me) are the Shaggy Lancero and the Beauty. The others are all dog rockets. Acid does make some good cigars even if they are a bit overpriced. Newbies sometimes like the infused cigars by Acid like Kuba Kuba but, as your cigar taste buds develop, you will not like them. I would suggest that you stick to mild-to medium strength cigars to begin with. Some good, inexpensive cigars are Pioneer Valley, Brocatus, Cuba Libre (NOT Free Cuba) and Nica Libre. As your tastes develop, you may not like them but they are good starts. Herfing

Awesome! I don't know what it is though, I just kind of "jumped in the deep end" into maduro/oscuro (I know that doesn't necessarily indicate strength) but I've found most claro and natural wrapped sticks I've tried to be in general lacking...for lack of a better word.. in the tastes/spices I like. I'm wondering if it is a matter of developing my pallet more to understand the nuances better.

Buy up all the gurkhas you can, they're cheap, some are good, one or two are great and most are garbage...to me.

YOU may like all or none of them. Don't take anyone's word for it. Just try out what you can for now. You have to experience bad cigars to know what a good cigar is. Ramon Bueso Genesis the Project is also a great everyday cigar.

Go the coolidor route, I'm telling you, this will save time, money, and frustration.
Use beads (HF only), don't use kitty litter or beads from Amazon.
Definitely not pancakes, not waffles, these guys don't know what they're talking about, it's all about crepes.

As was said above - try as many as you can. Only you can decide if it's a good smoke or not.
A couple less expensive smokes I like you might enjoy - 5 Vegas AAA and A, La Herencia de Cuba Oscuro Fuerte.

Almost anything Oliva, Cain, or Studio Tobac (all same factory) are sure to satisfy, as a general rule.

Also anything out of the My Father factory, is amazing, as previously mentioned.

Most Tat's are great as well.

There are many more.

You will find your way, in time, but, until you have a safe place to store all of your cigars, you may be putting the cart before the horse, so to speak.

Don't jump "all in" and $hit, until you are ready, son.

Oh! Welcome to the madness!

Use the search function, and search for "Thonginator". You'll be glad you did!

I guess I should clarify "all in". I got hooked into cigars about 4 years ago, but have never bought a box. I've definitely tasted around, but I feel like I narrowed down too soon and didn't explore enough. And thanks stogiemonger!

I've been doing this two years and still haven't bought a box. But I only smoke 1-2 cigars a week and maybe my pipes as often.

And if you haven't started that, many of us are dual BOTLs and BOTBs. You have been warned.

Yeah I'm actually an actor/singer so my limit is 1-2 a week...unless of course I'm drinking..because when I drink I drink bourbon...And when I drink bourbon I smoke cigars.

No O rings?

You can't be the most interesting man in the world without O rings being magnetized to you. If all you keep getting screwed with are nuts and bolts then that's some Frankenstein stuff, not the most interesting man in the world stuff...and stuff

I've got high o-bands.... that's actually true. And much less fun. Which brings me back to cigars and bourbon.

Just found out the Digger was named after a guy from a shpo down the road from me. I had to go there and buy a Digger from one of only 2 boxes in existence. Neato factoid.

Will take a Kristoff any day over any RP.

If you're a bourbon drinker, refer to dharbolt's post #2

Also consider:
KA Kendall's 7-20-4
Jaime Garcia (My Father)
HdM Dark Sumatra
Montecristo CC
Vegas Robaina CC

But whatever you decide, just say NO to kitty litter!
