bid on as many auctions as you possibly can, with as high a starting price as possible, then cancel your credit card... Trish loves that joke...

I find the smoke that I want and then look up the msrp and double that as my max bid. This guarantees a win and if anyone tries to outbid me they know I mean business for future auctions. Besides that losing is a sign of weakness and once people see that you may never win another lot again.

First off call Trisha and get the Platinum membership.
Second check the CI catalog before bidding for pricing.
Lastly Pm FGM and ask for free samples.

I've looked at what other sites are selling them for and base my bid off of theirs. I have been able to save a average of $8.00 on my wining bids.

Just set your max bid to $1.00 below the mothership price..........you will win often.
If you want a "deal"............you will have to bid often..................because you will not win often.
I'm pretty sure JadeRose still has a few hard copies of DP Newell's Secrets to Online Cigar Auctions.
Just give send him a PM.................and, given what you said above.................... heck................. he might even give it to you for "free"...........so to speak.

Finally, if you see me bidding on something, just walk on by......you'll have other chances to bid on the item when I'm not in there.
There's a guy here who sniped me once.
For the next 3 months, I out bid him, and sniped him, on every thing he tried to buy here, and at the other two spots as well.
Cost me almost $1,400.........but I didn't care.
He leaves my bids alone now.

One day I hope to have enough expendable income to be that guy. Been sniped one to many time's on Ebay gaming auctions.

Thank you very much Kingofthecove, trust me I know my limits and I will watch out for you in the future. Cigars are part of my life and I really enjoy them and the best part is that my wife supports my habit and gives me no restrictions!

I set my limit at about 2/3 of CI's price, and if I don't get something, I know that in a day or two, another one of the same thing will be listed again. Believe me, I win more then I really need, but there are always great deals to be found.

$8 shiiiiiiiiijiiiiiiiizzzzzzzzzzzzzz that's not even saving. Put a bid out that no one will mess with then start under bidding. You will win more then not just follow my rules.

Ha, Delta wants me to give up my secret drunk underbidding techniques!

Well, due to having plenty of cigars and pipe baccy right now, and a potential hard choice between motorcycle parts money and the TAD/PAD funds, here goes:

Find out when your "normal" target cigars will come up on auction-some every day, some only certain days, OR be willing to experiment.

Bid on multiple lots at $1 starting bid up to max bid of 1/2 or less the previous winning bid averages or what you are comfortable paying if more as soon as they open. (it is rumored there are tracking sites for such info, but only platinum members or a google search can lead you there, grasshopper)

Expect to lose lots of bids, but also occasionally win-unfortunately sometimes 1 lot right before your weekly shipping. AMHIK that cost me more in shipping than in purchasing!

You also might not lose any of a large lot bid, and end up with something like 15 sets of Gurkha mugs. Again, AMHIK

Thus the recommendation, didn't mean to steal any thunder (if that's what kids are calling it these days).

Realistically though, the new guy willing to put in work to support his smoking habit, have to commend him for his dedication :D

When did you get rid of Platinum? It was so popular and have heard so many things about it. Please bring it back. I heard you grandfathered old members and it's not fair that we can't join too.

Best bidding technique is to say you're not buying any more cigars, then drink about 4-6 beers and start surfing the auctions. Throw in a low bid on everything that catches your eye. 20-30 lots or so. Then sober up and forget you did anything.

In about a weeks time you'll have a surprise box at your doorstep.

Don't worry RudeBoy - there's a way to win where everybody's happy - it just doesn't seem to be right now when every guest and noob is overbidding on even the dog rockets (I've been overbid on yard work cigars these last two weeks so bad I had to laugh.) Right now - try FreeFall way late at night...

Did MACS get you your card for those Monte's?

Being serious for a moment, when I put in a bid I usually will not raise the bid, if I am outbid. Part of the fun for me is allowing the gods of chance to play their magic. Rarely do I raise a bid once made and only if I really want the cigar badly. I realize the danger of overbidding. Occasionally, I get a nice surprise. I recently put a bid in on a Tat, fully expecting to lose and (surprise, surprise, surprise) I won. Other times I have bid on dog rockets when I just wanted something to knock around with and got outbid, even though the bid, although low, was a bit higher than I thought they were worth. No big loss. I figured some shmuck just paid top dollar for a pos.

I would love to tell you my bidding strategy but I don't dare for fear of being bludgeoned to death in my sleep. Just hang out on here for awhile and take notes. Keep a log of what the cigars you want usually sell for and don't bid more than the average sell price. If you don't win there will be another auction of the same item very soon, patience is a virtue.

First, welcome to the madness. Thick skin is required.

Second, google is your friend. copy and paste this to google and click 'show omitted results'.

site:http://www.cigarbid.com/Auction/Lot "Oliva Serie 'V' Melanio"

This will give you a history of winning bids for the item within the quotation marks, in this case the Oliva Serie 'V' Melanio.

If you dig a little, you'll see that 5 packs tend to be cheaper than boxes or singles for this cigar. Why? Hell if I know. Other cigars go for cheaper by the box, or as singles, it just depends. Once to you get a feel for what the lowest winning bids typically are, bid that price early on and let the lot go if it goes for more than that. Whatever it is, it will show up again eventually.

Melanios have been inflated ever since the whole cigar of the year thing. That was just the figurado, so why the hell all the rest of the vitolas go up in price?

I used to buy them regularly at their old going rate... well, not buying them anymore till that price deflates like a Patriots football.

Don't these idiots understand?!?!?!?!

There's a chitload of Melanios... they produce them at the same rate China produces cheap radios.

For any lurkers out there reading this... you are over paying, stop it.

Ok, rant over...

i'd love to read..

"D.P. Newells cigar auctions bidding strategies"
book...

that being said...

if ur paying more than 50% of retail MSRP
ON CIGARBID...(for normal to average stuff)
then
your an idiot...

now the high end stuff like tateuje, anything fuente,
angeos, my father,good brand HUMIDORS,
high end lighters, etc...
they go for way more than 50% msrp on here.
^^a lot of cheap "RICH GUYS" BID on the high
end items here and get very good deals compared to
retail .
