So it sounds like ol' Pete is bringing back the Eastie and Westie as regular production sticks. Given the brouhaha over the Las Calaveras coming back, how do you guys feel about this? Way rarer and most coveted release, but also way older. Even the hoarders have to be down to their last couple by now, right?

Yep down to about 3 Westies now.

It won't be the same. They used up all of that tobacco a long time ago. It could still be a great cigar but it won't be similar to the OR.

Are they EVER, Bart ? Sad

I've only had one Westie . . . gifted to me in a pif or pib a few years ago.
Unfortunately, at that time, I was not a big TAT fan, and not realizing what I had in my possession, I gifted it to some lucky brother. d'oh!
Hey . . . Ya live and ya learn, eh ?

I'm more excited about the new Tat Jackal. The blend is a combination of what went into The Wolfman, The Jekyll, and the SW. I've got two boxes coming next week. I might get two more.

I'm pretty sure it will at least be similar. I don't remember any tales of 20 year old magic tobacco found in his great uncle's attic going into the OR cigar or anything. The next year's crop might be better or worse, it just depends, but you should end up with at least a similar cigar. There have been regular production verocu for a few years now, so I think he's got the supply line figured out. Of course you can't replicate the 8 years of age, but people were loving the OR from day one.

I passed on the Jackal just does not seem like a smoke I will enjoy as I did not care for the Jekyll really, Wolfman decent but Jekyll by far the worse of the recent Monster releases imo.

I think the westie will be similar but how can anyone make a true comparison unless the have notes from the original release still.

Well, Pete told me 3 years ago and again 2 years ago at the RMCF that he would probably release the Verocu again. But he said most likely in one size only. The new release will be in 4 sizes. Maybe they should be called East, West, North and South instead of numbers 1-4.

I pre-ordered a box about a week ago in the Lado Occidental vitola. I still have a few OR East and West to use for comparisons but since he has been shipping the Verocu #9 for years and they are very close IMO to the ORs I'm thinking these will be good from day one.

Verocu No.1 - 6 1/4 x 52 (Original West Coast size)
Verocu No.2 - 5 1/2 x 54 (Original East Coast size)
Verocu No.3 - 6 x 46
Verocu No.4 - 5 1/4 x 50

I have tried one #3 and one #4 so far. The taste is close but both were strong and a bit harsh compared to my memory of the East and West when they were young. Gonna have to break out one of the O R for comparisons. Of course there will be expected differences due to age.

I did that with my Jasons, but it was worth it, made a lot of guys real happy. I did save one for my collection though, so I only gave away 8 of 10, I could have sworn the box was a 15er when I was passing them out...silly me.Brick wall
