Best cigar you ever smoked?

I'm not asking about your go to sticks or a special occasion but what is the single best cigar you ever smoked.

For me it was an 03 Punch Super Selection gifted to me by MAC's this past year after my knee replacement. When I first posted about it in the CC thread I think I stated it was a solid smoke. But over the following few days I kept revisiting the flavors and the smoking experience and knew it had been a great cigar. Then there was the down side when I found out that the Super Selection had been discontinued in 09.

Oh well, the search for the next great experience will continue.

I had a RyJ corona CC (don't remember the vitola name) in 1994 that was what hooked me into cigars when I was 17.

My taste are constantly changing and a lot of what I smoke depends on what I am feeling for that day. This makes it extremely tough for me to narrow it down to 1 cigar but that Pepin rolled 8&11 I smoked recently would have to be really high up there.

I forgot this one as well an 08 Mag 46. Now I like Mag 46 a lot but this one that was gifted to me and was from 08 was just better then all the rest I have had.

I've had several best cigars ever.

The first was the one that broke me into true premium cigars. Herrera Esteli Lonsdale. No longer among my top 5 favorites. But for whatever reason, I finally noted flavors that weren't just burning tobacco leaf and to this day I've not smoked another cigar of any make that delivered the incredible profile I enjoyed that night. I think it was just perfect conditions at the right place and time. It was a rich creamy texture with the taste of peanut butter. I remember rubbing my nose multiple times the next day, to bring back remnants of that flavor.

The next best cigar ever was a HUHC which is still kind of my benchmark cigar and easy top 3. I've since killed two, going on three boxes. Had one for my birthday in '14 and it was the first CC I'd actually noted the difference between NC/CC. Two months after blowing mind with the HE and still one of my favorites.

Since those two, I've had some that were incredible and mindblowingly good. Many in fact. But, I think I judge every smoke against the memory those two experiences.

I dont think the mind-opening experiences I had while smoking those could be beaten. I've had much better cigars since then, that were absolutely fantastic, but nothing that's beaten out the memory of those two that completely altered my perception of cigars.

So yeah, the best two cigars I've ever smoked were $5 cigars.

Tl;dr two cigars changed the way I see cigars. HE Lonsdale and HUHC.

Damn, bro... glad I could be a part of that experience.

Likewise, my best cigar came from a member here as well... Buckwheat. Julian sent me a 1987 Dunhill Cabinetta for my retirement from the Navy. I found out I was going to Iraq in 2006 and smoked it before I left... just in case.

Made a day out of it at the LCdH in Tijuana with echo4alpha and xibbumbero. The three of us passed that thing like a doobie. Changed flavors 3 times and got progressively better.

Second on my list was a freshly rolled Taboada... by Don Rodolfo himself, as I watched. He was rolling bundles at the LCdH in Tijuana. Andy (xibbumbero) was my translator. He told Taboada I was going to Iraq. Taboada told Andy to ask me what I wanted, that he was going to roll me whatever I wanted on the house.

I'm wicked smaht! I said... "Tell him to roll me whatever he rolls for himself!"

I'm not a fan of the Punch marca in general, but the SS#1's are just ridiculously good. I only have a handful of them left.

It had to be a Cuban Cohiba I bought in Canada some years back. I decided to give myself a treat and it was. I still remember the taste and aroma. Never had a cigar anything close to that.

REALLY, Howard ? Sarcasm

For me, it would be a toss up between the Pepin rolled Padilla Miami 8&11 and the LFD Coronado.

The most memorable cigar I ever smoked, (most memorable because it was the ONLY one I have ever had ) was an OR Cupido Tuxedo Torp with YEARS of age on it, kindly gifted to me by Buddha Daddy. The new C-T's are damn good, but not as good as the OR.

Best cigar I ever smoke came from my last batch of Monte #2s...

It was some random Tuesday (or some other non-special day), and I just decided to smoke one.

I didn't want that cigar to end, ended up burning my lips and couldn't smoke for 2 days after, lol.

The other ones from that batch were good too (Unfortunately I think I gave away more than I smoked), but not as good as that one, it was something special.

Hopefully some of the ones I gave away were as good as that one.

I think I was drinking some Aberlour A'bunadh with it.

A Cuban H.Upmann double corona tubos with about 4 years age on it from Billy Smith...the GRANDMASTER of ALL Bombings.

It was a nubbing experience. One of those chasing the dragon moments that I've come close to since...not quite the same.

I've smoked more than a few memorable cigars. but, the one that seems to land at the top is a Partagas Sabroso I smoked a year or so ago. It would have been manufactored around 1994. I found it at the bottom of a box that had been stored for a very long time. When I unscrewed the tube cap, I fully expected it to be dryer than the VaJJ of a 90 year old nun. But, it was in perfect shape. Every time I puffed it I thought to myself I'd never smoke another cigar this good.

the two that stick out the most for me was a Cuban montecristo A I smoked with my best friend when I returned from over seas and the best cigar I ever smoked was the last one me and my friend smoked together before he passed, a 1998 Partagas Decade.

I have to say the Taboada Andy gifted me when we went to TJ on a later trip is among my top 5 all time also. Probably my #1 would a Cohiba Gran Reserva. Extremely expensive and extremely good.

I concur with your choice Burner.

I had the pleasure of meeting MACS last weekend. He lives near my daughter's house, and we (MACS, SIL and SIL's friend) met at a local cigar-friendly restaurant and bar with an outdoor smoking patio for brews and smokes. He brought me one of his few remaining Punch SS '03s and it was amazing. We staggered back to my daughter's house for a great evening of food, drink, smokes and fellowship. Thanks bro!!!

Seems like a lot of CC's make this list. I have some CC cohibas, Montecristos, and Bolivar I brought back from Germany in April. I smoked a few while there, and liked them, but perhaps they were too fresh. Seems like they need to have a couple years on them based on wht I been reading. So, they can chillax in storage for a while, til I go back in 2017.

That said, I did enoy them, but as I am now learning about this hobby, I have smoked 2 non cubans that I really really loved. They may seem broken record to this crowd, but the original My Father, and Las Calaveras 2014. Both those I did not want to end. Seeing as how I have only been smoking for a few moths, I am sure that This list will grow and morph as I keep trying new things.

I think mine so far has been a Liga Prada # 9. A very smooth, silky, sweet smoke with tons of flavor that was distinct and very stable all the way to the nub. Almost made me want to naw on the nub at the end.

At this point I don't recall having had anythng really well aged or unique besides the boutique stuff currently available at my local TS.

I received a notice about a private collectors sale a couple of days ago. Included were two cabs of the SS #1's, 2000 and 2001 at 1250 Euro each.

Quick conversion, $1,395.40 per cab. That comes to a little over $27.00 per cigar.

Oh well......................

Ouch on that price point.

Best cigar that I remember really striking me as something special was the Melanio churchill. On the first draw the flavor seemed so balanced and refined, it seemed to me that there was great care put into the making of this cigar. No overpowering flavors but the ones that were there, were woven together perfectly. I've bought the last four from a local shpo (60 miles away) tough price point but I feel they are worth the entry fee. They're on my list to buy a few more whenever I find them.

Edit**

This cigar is still my benchmark.

Just won a box of the petit coronas for $55 I've read reviews that these smaller Melanios don't really shine like the larger ones do.

Yeah, I am down to my last fiver, from the same year. They have been some of the best cigars I have ever smoked. In my opinion, one of the worst deletions Habanos ever made, except the Bolivar CE.

Pretty much every cigar I've been gifted has been a pretty awesome experience.

Arturo Fuente Opus x "A". Gifted from Pro. It was a combo of a great cigar and a great day. Pro hooked me up with an awesome round of golf and then we sat around for a few hours shooting the chit on a gorgeous day. Hands down one of the best cigar days that I have had. Thanks Bart.

A. Fuente Hemingway Best Seller Maduro.

The moment and the cigar aligned perfectly a couple of years ago. I was (...still am...) a newbie to premium cigars and it was gifted to me by a shpo owner. I had been frequenting the shpo on a regular basis and gave him some Van Morrison CDs so he in turn gave me a 2-year old BSM. "No good deed goes unpunished" were his words to me. Anyway, a few weeks later I had to work on a $1.4M proposal for 4 or 5 days, including the weekend and after I turned everything in, decided I deserved some time off and went straight home after dropping it off. Sat in my garage with an Ayinger Celebrator and smoked that sucker down to the nub nub. Maybe the relief of having put together the proposal by myself made for the memorable moment. But every single puff was wunderbar, I could, seemingly, taste all kinds of different flavors and I was in 7th heaven for that hour and a half. I seriously didn't want it to end. I enjoyed the cigar so much that I bought a box of them to one day recapture the experience. Although I haven't yet opened the box (...it's been over 2 years now...), I doubt if I'll have that same feeling again.

So yes, I have had "better" cigars since then, but none that made me feel so good and so happy.
