Anyone ordered and tried these 2nds?

Has anyone ordered any of the 2nds that are offered here on CBID? I was looking at some of the Alec Bradley and Oliva 2nds offerings and just wanted some opinions. The only reservation I have had is not knowing which offering it is.

They're all dog rockets.

To paraphrase the ktty cat: Get off my auctions!

aka if you match up the occasional odd size to the regular lines, not only can you get a good price, you know the actual blend. Scored some tasty Tempus lanceros that way

I have gotten the Nicaraguan 90+ seconds bundle several times. For me it is a very good pool/lake cigar. Nice Nicaraguan flavor. Not super strong. I have gotten the robusto size which is fairly short so they don't last too long for such outdoor activities and if you have to toss it or it gets wet, no big deal.

the strong ssuggestion is that these are from Olivia but who knows for sure. I have only bought them on special "daily deals" with free shipping and at that price level (around $1.60/per including shipping) I think they are a good deal. Not great or amazing, but I'm not going to fire up a Padron or a CC while buzzing around the lake.

Is this another "I bought a bunch of crappy cigars and I want someone to say it's ok" threads?

Sarcasm

Oh no, it is not one of those those type threads. Rather than opinions on topics, I was hoping to get as many smarta$$ comments as possible, kinda like the one quoted aboveLiar . Thanks for trying participating in the thread though. I guess when you don't have anything productive to add, just posting useless garbage helps gets your post count up ThumpUp

If you want to run with the big dogs, you need to learn to pee in the tall grass.

Never bought seconds, I figure theres other cigars here that are better for about the same money. Only thing left to do is for you to go find what you like.

I would butt in line to be first. The thought of sloppy seconds is scary. No way I'd be third in line.

I'd go with the Nicaraguan 2nds. They are quite good and, in fact, I just scored on two bundles myself this week. Most Alec Bradleys, including his so-called super-premiums, usually have construction issues. Those who tell you that all seconds are garbage, obviously haven't triied them all.

Tried enough of them to know I don't want to "try" any more.

Bad part about seconds, is they take up space... Valuable, space that could be used for something I'm not just "trying" by the bundle.

Give 'em a whirl if you want - worse comes to worse you have some yard gars or something to hand out to those who don't know any better.Beer

But take all the comments to heart - the "gang" here (fog AZZHAT INC.) has been there and done that and we all have our own..... OPINIONS, ya, that's it, OPINIONS. And opinions are like azz wholes - we all have one. Took me a while to talk myself outta buying a mazo of the macanudo knock offs - my brother loves Macanudos but I figured I already have enough real ones stashed to keep him happy for a year or two, so why waste the room.

Just my $0.02

Carry on

I notice there is allot of pissing on the grass that goes on here d'oh!

Batman, that was the purpose of the silky looking sissy tights in the 60's right, less ball sack drag and could still get your tickle on in the tall grass?

Entirely incorrect.

I've got the remains of the Nic. Ligero 2nd's and AB 2nd's I bought a couple of years ago and they are tasting quite good, thank you. I recently (in the past 6 mo.) discovered the CI Knock-off LGC's are pretty nice for similar money.

Anyone who judges your taste in cigars must be living a far too uninteresting life. Smoke what ya like, eff everyone else...or something like that...fog

I used to buy and smoke plenty of AB's. I really liked the flavor profile of the Family Blend line. Eventually, I tired of having to touch up crappy burns and quit buying them. I can only imagine what kind construction issues the seconds must have.

As far as judging one's taste in cigars, I say the only person whose opinion really matters is the person who is buying them.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I'm not a real fan of the AB line in general, seem to be very inconsistent, but the 2'nds I've still got, while not my #1 go-to smoke, are actually burning just fine. You can't ever know what someone else's experience is going to be, just your own. Even judging the burn. We may keep our cigars differently for all you know...the aging MIGHT affect them...who knows?

Hoyo, I'm right there with you....many years ago another famous auction site sold AB seconds they referred to as Sup. Selection....and I enjoyed them very much. And with their packaging you pretty well knew what you were getting as well as what size. ( wished I still had some of the " old ones "

The issue I have with say the Oliva seconds here is you have NO idea what line....what wrapper etc. that your getting. I've been tempted to buy some Oliva seconds but don't want a bunch of Connecticut cigars if that's what they are. And I have to laugh sometimes at other s whining about having to touch up their cigar, of course we all would love to smoke nothing but cigars that burn razor sharp, but then there's reality...I don't let the fact that I might have to touch up the burn a little on a cigar keep me from buying them again if I otherwise enjoy that particular cigar. just my .02

That's an interesting thought. I kept them in the same humidor that all my other cigars were stored in. Had it been an environment issue, then I would think all of, or at least a significant amount, my non AB cigars would have had the same issues.

I've had burn issues with at least one of every type of AB I've ever bought.

Great information for the pros and cons, so thanks for opinions on both sides of the coin. I went ahead and picked up a lot of 10 AB's for about a $1.50 per stick. Even if they are half decent smokes, it is worth the price even if just for grass cutting smokes or to dole out to friends that may want to try a stick.

Like I mentioned earlier, I find AB's very inconsistent which is why I gave up on buying them. It just happens these 2nds haven't had any burn issues. Simple as that.

I used to buy some pretty decent seconds then I stumbled on some fantastic (but pricier) cigars and said to myself....wow, I could smoke 1/2 as much, smoke better stuff and have the same out of pocket. I have in the past tried to chase down the good bargain gars under $3 but not alway lucky. Still a need for a yard gar or disposable cigar but those times seem to be less and less of my allotted smoking time. That being said, there are a lot of super high end cigars that I have a hard time justifying the price/pleasure ratio.I am now concentrating my recon on the middle ground.

^+1 but I have a decent rotation of $3 and under (CBid prices) that I've been pretty pleased with. Haven't gone the seconds route but have considered it.

I have collected some good $3 cigars as well and there are some great seconds out there (assuming you like the non-second version).......but I am tainted by my recent consumption of a $6 Fuente 8-5-8 sungrown where I said to myself - Whoa. I need more of these! So suddenly I have enough $3 sticks to last me a while.
