This is a joke right? C-Bid doesn't put up an auction that closes years later.

In 4+ years, with MAP, Fed, State and local tobacco taxes, that may be a bargain.

You're definition of overbidding is a deal to some at their local shops, and they may think it's worth it if they have an order already. I know that these for for $20+ at my local, just on name and taxes only.

If you think any cigar is worth $20, I would say this one is right up there.......however it's a bit steep for my tolerance. If prices are inflated overall in your local market and if $5 gars go for $10 then the inflation runs right up the line to the super premiums.

umm... I don't buy them at that price tag, but do see plenty of people that are willing to. I think they are the same ones that come in for a good cigar and the shop owner sees the "sucker" written on their forehead.

I do enough shopping around online, but there are others that find one site and stick to it for all of their needs.

What am I missing ?

At least two (if not three) bidders wanted a $200 box for a 25% premium

Buy into the hype. Yeah I get it they're brand new, bffs it's just an undercrown. Give it a few months and these will be half that much.

But at only $3.00 over what the mothership sells them for (and on back order), he can have them now.

Yup he's getting them right now but at a helluva premium over what they have sold on here for recently. Back order isn't out of stock, CI is gonna get some more.

That whole cigar of the year thing. I used to buy the hell out of Melanios when they went for a decent price... now, not so much.

I really like them, but I can wait to buy more till they drop back down a bit.

I wouldn't say I am an expert... but I am at least smart enough to check other sites to ensure the price im about to bid makes sense.

I loved reading through these posts of overbids. My personal fave was the QB's for $30-40 over what the humidor was going for.

I'm not sure I've ever looked at CA. I did look at their site a couple of times at specific reviews but found the information somewhat lacking. Probably cigars outside of the price range I hear they specialize in.

Ya once you've smoked cigars for awhile you'll see that you overbid on them. Nothing wrong with it, I bid on crap when I was new to cigars and new to here too. Now I still bid on crap but it's better crap! Come back in a year and look at your post, your palate will be more intune with flavors you like and you'll be smoking better cigars by then.

touche... I'm trying to expand my horizons one cigar at a time. The thing I like about spectre (I smoke them like once a month) is they remind me of camping.

However, I am trying to expand my horizons on the cigars i smoke. I've bought a bunch of singles over the past couple weeks based on suggestions i hear about on these forums...

Ohio taxes are pretty high and even the shpos don't sell them that high.
Of course there are shpos that have that special room closed off with a barrel in the middle to bend those saps over that just HAVE to have them.

What surprised me is that several others bid $11 each for a 4.5x46 pc. A 7x48 Churchill is only $2 more at my shpo!!

Fair enough but that's not what "overbidding" is. Overbidding is merely paying more for items here than one can find elsewhere. It's an objective standard. It's not about what sticks are good or not, which is a matter of opinion.

Even that, isn't quite "correct" imho.
Because now you are comparing cbid to "others", who shall not be mentioned.
To me, over-bidding on cbid, is simply paying more for an item than what the mothership sells said item for every day.

And even then, sometimes, a person wants something in particular to add to an existing order.........the clock is ticking........he wants it......his weekly shipping deadline is 6 hours away..........so he bids $8/ea on 2 singles that the mothership always sells for $6...................eh.............it happens. He's not going to order two singles from the mothership...........shipping costs, etc.

We need over-bidders......................

Fine, however I think overbidding can also be compared to other auctions here. For example, I remember getting 5 singles for less than a 5-pack of the same cigar, even including the extra shipping on the singles. There was a 10-cigar freefall that, even at its lowest price, was more than two 5-packs of the same stick. Etc.

I'm sure shipping schedules play a role in some overbids, but there are certainly a ton of people who don't just overbid by a couple of bucks but pay far more than is rational were they to shpo around a little.

Exactly!
And we NEED those fine folks...............desperately.
If everyone shopped like me.....................or bothered to attend the DP Newell Seminar of Online Cigar Buying........................there would be far fewer deals to be had.

RIP DP...................

You can have them. I recently won my 'cigar of the year' here for half that.....

We all mock the influence of advertising $$ on the CA COTY process, but I'll bet the payers get their money's worth when they come out in the top 10
