I LOVED the 150's and 160's, and just heard about the 170's.
Trying to get some info on these, but not much luck on the internet as far as availability, price, and reviews.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx.

Trying to look around but I do not see these available anywhere, not even a price. All I have found is a list from a shpo on what to expect released this year so I am thinking they may not have been released yet possibly.

When Gimbel was at my place back in 2011 he gave me a 150.

I'd have to say that it is def in the top 10 of cigars I've had.

Back in the day when I was just past nooberty, a friend picked me up 10 150's in various sizes that his local had on "special" for $15 a stick. I had NO CLUE as to just what I had in my possession. I just knew they were a LE and were REAL good, so I smoked'em all. d'oh!

If you weren't supposed to smoke them then what do you do with them? Herfing

I have a bunch of cigars now (mostly gifted to me) that I am saving for special smoke days but its getting to the point where I am feeling like a collector more then a smoker. I need to be more of an enjoy the smoke now kind of person myself.

i second that! your a collector if you dont ever plan on smoking them, otherwise they are just aging and getting better for the day they are smoked

And here I was thinking thinking this thread was about CCs and wondering how the hell Gimbel could afford to be giving out $500+ cigars. Let alone even find them.

^+1 Can see myself going to my dirt nap, my cigar collection going to some ignorant frack that would take one puff and crush them or decide to store them in their sock drawers so I've said he'll with it and started smoking them. fog

DAMN, Dude . . . When I saw your post, I thought we had some info. Sad

Maybe one of the resident "old fog experts" here on CBid can shed some light on the subject.

If price is any indication, and based on the description of the 170, it's a different breed than 150 and 160. Sounds more like a special/limited edition to celebrate the brand's 170 anniversary.

Both 150 and 160 used a rare, vintage Cameroon wrapper.

i saw that and man did it get a harsh review. that was what I was worried about, how do you follow up the 150 & 160? I thought they would have put together a better cigar though.

Agreed, concerned about the reviews. Halfwheel bashed it hugely, nothing like the 150 or 160. I'm gonna have to hold until I know something different.

My "fiver" will be delivered tomorrow.
I was never expecting, (wishing maybe), but never expecting a cigar on par with the 150 or 160.
In light of the early reviews, it looks like my wish won't come true. Sad

170 Aniversario Replica Antique Humidor Series (i.e. 50 cigars in a nice box). No doubt it will set you back a bit. Good hunting.

I'd personally be more interested in the Partagas Serie E No. 2 Travel Humidor and the La Gloria Cubana 25th Aniversario Humidor LCDH. Both probably as good as the 170's for a fraction of the cost.

Loved the 155's and the 160's. fog

Just one person's opinion, but for me the 150s and 160s hit me as relatively harsh ROTT. I buried them, ran across them 2-3 years later and sum buck, they had gotten good.

Well, the 170's arrived today and I had one fired up less than five minutes after I got them in the house.
( Talk about "rott" ! RollEyes )

First off, it was in no way anywhere near the cigar that the 150 and 160 were, BUT we all pretty much KNEW that would be the case.

I'm not much of a detailed reviewer as I really have never been able to pick up subtle nuances like cashew, caramel, cinnamon, etc, etc, in cigars. So with that in mind . . . Here's what I can tell you about it.

IMHO . . .I don't think it was as bad as all the early reviews had suggested.
The visual construction was very nice. It had an easy pre-light and post-light draw.
No burn issues whatsoever, lotsa smoke, and a sturdy ash. I tapped the ash off at about 2 inches. Left to it's own, it probably would have gone past 4 inches or so.

Not much "oomph" or spice, but a nice flavor for a mild to medium, (leaning towards mild), cigar. Very smooth with no harshness.
All in all, I enjoyed it and will probably pick up a few more fivers . . . even at $10 /stick.

So there you have it.

Had a Salamone a few weeks ago. Not bad. Not great.

Partagas decided to not use an aged wrapper and it shows.

Mild to my taste. Smooth. Lots of cedar. Little else.

Definitely not worth the price point. The boxes are pretty though.

I guess on a positive note it doesn't have the china doll like fragility of the 150/160.

No comparison. Different cigar. The 150's and 160's were IMHO great cigars. The 170 is just a real good cigar.
