Anybody ever used one of these. I've got to replace all my beads. Four pounds of beads run about $155 shipped. I can get one of these off Amazon for $140 shipped. Haven't checked the bids to see if one is listed.

I haven't used that one but I used an oasis 2 for several years with no problems. I just used distilled water and filled every other month. If you go this route I would suggest using a computer fan or two to make sure you're getting good airflow. Good luck.

I use a Moist n Air but I still have about 4 lbs of beads spread out. I don't trust the regulators on any of them after years of experience. They are notorious for running high and low which is detrimental to a stabile environment.

Beads go bad? Do they no longer hold humidity?

I thought about that. But, I'm wondering if it is made worse because of the low rh where you are. Here the year round average rh is much closer to the optimal storage rh.

No I spilled them when I moved my tower from the old location. I was in a hurry and forgot to take the bowls out before I laid it down in the back of the truck. I had half Heartfelt and 1/2 kitty litter and it spilled all inside my tower. I had to clean it all out with a vacuum cleaner and threw them away.

I have the Hydra Commercial size, the remote quit working unless the cord was moved just so, connection is loose. I took it apart and all the buttons and what not fell out so when I'm in a patient frame of mind I have to put it back together.
Looks very much the same as the Humicare, worked well though. Replaced the foam with heartfelt beads, open cartridge so very easy to do.
Currently using an Oasis Magna with heartfelt beads. Have a few pounds placed in bags through out the tower I keep dry to maintain moisture levels and not worry about how wet the beads in the humidifier are.
4 pounds dry in the tower, 2 in the unit.

If you go to the craft store, it's cheap, and buy the wet oasis foam and keep an eye on the block and replace it every 3-4 month or more depending on how it holds up with active humidifiers the foam works just fine, just more effort to make sure it doesn't start to get funky on you.
The key is to saturate the block but no standing water. In the early stages new foam actually freshens and filters the air in the humidor.
I used the foam in both my large cabinet sized Oasis unit and smaller units for 15 years with no problems. Distilled water ONLY, the kind that specifically has no sodium in it and some glycol in the mix the first time you wet the block retards mold or mustiness very well, you just have to keep up with it.
With passive humidifiers the foam is a terrible moisture medium, it can mold in a matter of just a few weeks depending on how wet and the temperature.
All the opinionated and rabid anti foam crowd will say different but if done right it works, first hand experience over many years.

I was just speaking from personal experience, for me the foam was more of a pita than it was worth. For me it worked better to not use the foam that came in my oasis 2 unit. Like most things it's just a matter of what works the best for the individual.

Given your local climate, how much humidification do you really need?

Looks like I won one for $88. Not a bad price if it works as advertised. Still need to get some beads though.

Not too much. I've been beadless for about 2 months. The rh in the tower is at 58%.

Nice win Anthony! I think you'll like it, the best feature is the remote, you can place it outside your cabinet so you don't have to crack it open to make adjustments or power it off and on. Testament to patient bidding right there brother!

I use one and have had no problems. Only replaced the foam twice so far. Been running the unit for about 6 or 7 years now with 3 fans hooked up for circulation. I keep 3 other small plastic containers w approx. 1/2 # of 65% (I believe) beads in each.. No problems and holds humidity well.
