I have a fiver of the Rothschild on the way.

You can get a box of 18 robustos over at CI for $79, or a bundle of ten for $60. Price seems bloated for the ten pack.

Is this a CI exclusive?

I like the nc Sancho Panzas, wish they had stuck with the minimalist traditional band for this one. Also wish they had kept the box press going on these. The double maduro is a favorite and the extra fuerte was a box purchase.

Looking forward to your review on these.

Ok, but it takes a couple of weeks for shipments to get out here. Of course, then at least a couple of weeks acclimating here.

And then it's on! :-)

People see the word Anejo and instantly think of the cigar that we've been used to hearing under that name which is the Fuente Anejo.

Same name, no relation? TBD...

So let's see how Padron operates when they're making a CI exclusive. The name Anejo, itself carries high expectations.

Tell me how you really feel francis...

If you have any other ideas as to why they would name a cigar with the same name as a very good selling cigar I'm all ears.

I understand Anejo simply means "aged" in Spanish but with a cigar already carrying that name it brings the question as to what was the idea behind the duplicate name?

Well this one's a triple anejo, so it's three times as good, right?

It's a good smoke, in my opinion. Having said that, I feel that it cost too much for what you get., I'd rather pay a little more for a much better cigar.

Bingo ..............Triple "AGED".

BTW I bought a bottle of rum last week sporting the name Anejo...........I just knew it was produced by Fuente.

Obviously P.T.Barnam was **** spot on.

I would assume that triple anejo references wrapper, binder and filler.

Also, this isn't the first cigar not named Fuente to use "anejo"

You guys seem to think I thought it was a Fuente, Tony posted up that the auction the other night ended at $28 for a five pack. Seems somebody out there had high hopes for the cigar.

Opus One winery took suit against Fuente for their use of the Opus name and that was between two companies that weren't even in the same market. Ford won't let anyone use the name mustang in their company name if they are making or selling aftermarket parts for ford mustangs. The name Anejo cigar when googled brings up nothing but Fuente hits on the first 2 pages.

Grabbed 10 for $30 on the daily deal w/free shipping

ROTT, much stronger than I thought it would be. Spicy start then went for the dark roast coffee flavor with a very slight touch of dark cocoa sweetness. Good purchase at $3/per IMO but think they will benefit from resting for awhile. Tasted similar to a couple of Blendlabs i have had and, since this is an exclusive stick to Ci and its sister site, would be no surprise if this started out in the Blendlab room.

This is funny... I smoked one of those last night and it didn't do much for me.

I did a google search on it, and it came back to this thread. BigGrin

I put it down just past half way.

Hard to believe I've had that since 2016. I reckon I've smoked a couple of them before, but don't recall anything about them.

I have a lot of other Sancho Panzas I that I do like.

Just looked back at my records and I also smoked a fiver of them a couple of years ago. They were the least liked of the Sancho Panzas I have smoked, tho not terrible. Looks like I got them some time in 2016 - but history records don't go back that far since the great site wrecking.Only 3 orders from CBID last year.

I just recently had one from the 8 for $10 sampler from CI and it was pretty good. Not super-amazing but good flavor that did evolve throughout the smoke from coffee to dark choc. with some leather and spice and, especially in the aftertaste, cream. I liked it and would get it again if was close to the $2 mark. Hard to justify much more than that with MB3s going for $3 and 101 closeouts going for around $4.

Because there are still Opus cigars on the market, I'm assuming the winery lost, as they should have, unless the logos were very similar or other strong and deliberately misleading branding similarities existed. Unless you're deliberately an a$$hole like that and attempt to confuse customers (hey look our cigars are seemingly from the same guys who make the wine!), then you're immume to trademark suits if you're offering an entirely different product or service.

Unless, that is, you're using the name of a giant mega company with craploads of cash, rooms full of lawyers and an ultra-mega-famous household name brand. They have a history of using their endless resources to intimidate smaller companies into not using their name, even if they're in completely unrelated industries. They're huge and can bleed a little guy dry in lawyer fees with endless expensive court actions.

Quote:
Ford won't let anyone use the name mustang in their company name if they are making or selling aftermarket parts for ford mustangs.

This would be a correct application of trademark protection. However, there are tons of companies called "Mustang" that have nothing to do with car parts, and Ford can't stop them from using the name, for that very reason.

I've dealt with patent issues/law and that's even more "fun" than trademark issues/law, but that's a whole other super-complicated rabbit hole to go down...

Wait awhile and they'll get much better. Also, drybox them well first, especially if you store at 68-70% like I do. Several years of age then 3+ days of dryboxing and wow, good cigar!

I hear you on the Room 101 "price anchor reference" effect. I can't buy any cigar around $4 or over now, because I think, "This isn't gonna be nearly as good as Chief Cool Arrow which is the same price!" and I can't buy stuff that's $3 because "For a lousy buck more I can have a Chief Cool Arrow, why would I buy this?" and so on.

The Chief at $4 kinda ruins the reasoning for buying anything else near that price point. Ruins in a good way though, because you end up just buying more Chiefs, for which Future You will thank you.

Even worse for me since I really like the MB3's for $3 and the MC3 roxxos for $3.49 as well as the Arrows for around $4. Hard to buy anything else, even the Sanchos from the OP which are going for around $3 with shipping - a fair price but for the competing cigars.

If looking for a steady one-note but good Nicaraguan Maduro for under $2, the Bahia Red's have been going at Cbid auction for $1.50 in bundles of 20 WITH the shipping factored in. That is worth pulling the trigger on if need a good flavored and good burning "cheap but better than yard-gar" selection.

back on topic...I spoke with Francisco Batista, the Master Blender for Balmoral Cigars at the Big Smoke cigar event in Las Vegas last November...his company was handing out their new top shelf Balmoral Anejo XO...

I asked him about the name Anejo, and the risk they were taking because Fuente has a line of cigars with that name, and it has been around and successful for a long time...his response was that it's not a risk to him because the name is only a Spanish word that means "aged", which is the image they are projecting due to the extreme aging of tobaccos selected for the cigars...

that's what he said...

the cigar was good, but not as good as a Fuente Anejo, the cigar I'll always associate "Anejo" with...

guess common names/words is no big thing in the cigar world: vintage, select, anejo

Back to the ORIGINAL topic, lol, I dug up a Sancho Anejo about a year old and Pudding is correct, it was better. So the answer to the 3 year old question: pretty good cigar and, in general, worth the $3 they are going for here. BUT, by gosh, there are ones I like better for the same or just a bit more.

Now, if they come out with a Triple PLATINUM Anejo....

Some cigars are "okay today, better tomorrow" and others are "schitty today, better tomorrow". The Sancho Anejo is between those two classifications. Buy 'em and sit on 'em, folks.

I've had various other cigars that are full-bore the latter classification though. I have participated in the mothership's twice-yearly "10-pack plus gift card" deals every time they've done it for quite a number of years now, and boy, were some of the offerings TOTALLY like that! The biggest examples I can remember:

1. One time they did Ave Maria Argentum Morningstars that were pretty terrible until several years later when they began to become okay.

2. Another time they did Diesel Coronas, but of a different size than the usually-seen Diesel Corona. They were horrible, HORRIBLE ammonia-bombs, harsh as hell, unsmokeable really... again, until 2 or 3 years later (I forget which), when they started to get decent. I suspect they were some super-young one-offs or something, as they let them go for 75 cents each net ($27.50 for 10-pack + $20 gift card = $7.50 net / 10 cigars = 75 cents each net).

3. Yet another time, 601 La Bomba Flash Bang (4.5x60 if I remember right). Again, same thing: harsh ammonia-bombs, nearly unsmokeable, until a full 3 years later (if memory serves me right) when they started to get smokeable and not too bad. Those they sold for $1 net ($29.99 for 10-pack + $20 gift card = $9.99 net / 10 cigars = $1 each net).

Keep this in mind if you find yourself eyeballing their every-May-and-December "10-packs + $20 gift card" deals. Most of the offerings are good right away, but a few have certainly not been, particularly the "too good to be true"-priced ones. So far however, they have ALL eventually turned decent and a good value for the tiny price, but it took years.

Pricing update: tonight a 10 pack of the SP Anejo robustos and an 18 pack of the rothchilds went for $2.20 & $2.22 per cigar AFTER you figure in the shipping, so even more tempting. However, my budget already blown this month (and next)

.....smoked 5 of the 5.75" x 60 Gordo. Was a good, average, decent darkie. It's better than the S.P. Triple Maduro. For under $2.50 per it is a good buy.
