Yeah, my scraps tin is probably about 1/3 or more cigar/cigarillo bits. A friend just gave me an "Oscar Leaf" so I've got to cut that up. Will probably mist the whole thing with either distilled water or a little whiskey after that. Others may have more expert advice, but imho the cigar baccy really dries things out.

Just keep a little humidifier pouch in your tobacco. Stays perfect for as long as you like if you keep it moist.

I'm just getting back to the pipes and recovering from a serious sucky case of tongue bite, God bless Biotene. I'm a pipe n00b big time.
Rather than a bowl by bowl I'll post the new blends I've gotten to try.

3112 - G.L. Pease Haddos Delight. Like this one, currently using it to cure the Rossi Palermo I bought. I can see this being a regular go to.
3113 - G.L. Pease Triple play. I like it but dam I have to figure out the best way to smoke it, that cake has me perplexed, going to try using a sharp knife and slice off a ribbon from a side and rub it out. Doing the giant flake from the top didn't work out so good.ram27bat
3114- Mac Baren Bold Kentucky. Loved it, first try with stuffing a wet flake was a miserable failure. Left a few out to dry and rubbed them out, awesome strong flavor, did give me a gut feeling like good strong cigar.Herfing
3115 - C&D Habana Daydreams. No frills, didn't do it in the flavor area, it will grow on me. Didn't kick my butt on the nicotine but I smoke a lot. No cold sweats like Jamie got.
3116 - Samuel Gawith St James Flake. One bowl, man super delicious loved it.This I've got to keep around!
3117 - Mac Barren Dark Twist. Verdict is still out, have some drying but those slices didn't go so well the first time.
3118 - Peterson Irish Flake. Yeah baby, this was the BOMB. At 10 bucks a tin this one will likely end up being a treat only tobacco. Absolutely fantastic.

St James Flake is pretty good, and had some misadventures folding and stuffing one into a bowl too!

3119 - C'est La Vie French Vanilla. These flavored blends just are lost on me. First a few cherry blends, this, an irish whiskey one. Probably gonna stick to regular blends after these are gone

3120 - Captain Black Round in the cheapie Casillo that came with the Captain Black sampler. OK second bowl of the day and the pipe settling in nicely. Finish bubbled a few bowlfuls ago tho

Probably have a higher quality cigar at the VFW Post later watching the Preakness and supporting the final push of the solar panel fundraising.

Digging the pipe. FYI curing a new pipe, switched to the Mac Barenboim Dark Twist and smoked a fair amount of it, I'm nic'd the frak out.

Maybe I'm too much of a n00b, saw a guy do a review where he took two flakes, folded, rolled and stuffed em in and smoked away. Gotta be some drying time in there, major fail for me with the Kentucky.
Think I'll stick to rubbing them out.

BTW, aloe juice does serious wonders for wicked tongue bite and sand paper tongue! Small mouthful, swish and let it stand in your mouth for a while and voila! And you just swallow it, think it's supposed to be good for your gut too.

I'm also learning to pace myself and not get my pipe so frakking hot. I like the heavy dense smoke but getting that and maintaining it and bad chit starts happenening.
I'm going through several pipe cleaners on some of these blends going through a whole pipe full, otherwise I get gurgle and bite.

3137 - Lane BCA on the deck looking at the stars, listening to the tree frogs and spotting the first of the lightning bugs. Life in the country is good. Temps tonight were pleasant, clear skies and relatively quiet aside from the sounds of nature.

3138 - Samuel Gawith Kendall Twist, Brebbia Lectura churchwarden. I've struggled with this pipe, but I believe this stuff is the perfect tobacco for this pipe, awesomely strong stuff, except for the rope looking kinda like a long turd this stuff is awesome!!
3139 - MacBaren Old Dark Fire, S&M meerschaum churchwarden. First time for the pipe and the blend home run on both.
3140 - Samuel Gawith St James Flake, Calabresi churchwarden. This will be a regular for me love the taste.
3141 - Cornell & Diehl Bayou Night, Calabash. Seems to smoke regular ribbon cut blends than Flake but only the second time I've used it.
3142 -- Samuel Gawith Kendall Twist, Calabash. NOT a good blend for this pipe Spanking

I keep finding I like inhaling frquently on these strong blends, can't seem to help myself.

Little long winded but I'm rediscovering my old pipes, some new ones, and hitting on some great strong blends.
I love cigars but pipe smoking is a whole different experience, very calming and relaxed.
Sat on the porch all night smoking different pipes and new blends enjoying the transition as the evening went from hot and humid to pleasant and cool.
Nice quiet still night after the neighborhood noises died down.

3143 - Mix of an old peach and Lane's BCA on the deck and a really quiet night. That old Peach had a bite and the BCA calmed it down a bit, but still something I cant wait to see vanish.

What the devil is it with smoking a pipe that suddenly makes my tongue feel so frakked when I go to smoke cigar now?
Feels dry and funky when I smoke a cigar and my taste buds feel way off, sometimes even anesthetized.
All my blends are pretty full tilt, I've been trying to let them dry a bit before I smoke a pipe. My cigars are all pretty full tilt too, I can smoke 3-5 in a night or more over the course of a day it's changed with sanding the pipe tobacco.
Too much pipe tobacco? Smoking too aggressively? Anyone have any thoughts?

When I started smoking the pipe more regularly, I quit enjoying cigars so much. But for me it was a different experience, with a shorter time commitment. My guess would be that the tobacco was the culprit zody, but I'm not sure. Only way to be is take a week or two hiatus then try a cigar.

Define frakked. Like your tongue is burnt? Excessive moisture at the end of a bowl or wet tobacco at the end? Try drying your tobacco more. I've found that 8-10 seconds in the microwave works well.

And you can't smoke a pipe like a cigar. Small sips, not big puffs.

I've smoked one cigar in the last 8 months or so. A DPG Blue, which I love, that's been resting for about a year and a half. I really didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

I haven't picked up a pipe in awhile now and even though I am still a pipe noob I found that if I grabbed a pipe that day then no cigars as for some reason it just changes the enjoyment I would get from them. A few days later cigars were back to normal. I might go for a bowl this weekend though as I have been thinking about it and bought a pipe in January that I have yet to use.

Yup, my tongue has had a case of bite but once that mostly wore off I'm getting tons of moisture at the end of a bowl. Then when I go to smoke a cigar the next day the center of my tongue is dry and feels funky and taste is way way off.
I've been air drying, the microwave thing will be a must try.
Pretty sure it's a habit of chugging like a cigar with strong tobacco that's too moist.
I went the total opposite with a bowl of Peterson Irish Flake, left it out way too long. I like it but the super crunchy dry version, that was one seriously harsh smoke!

I'll agree with this. Pipes and pipe tobacco have been my new thing and I tend to smoke a lot. Moderation Grashopper, right?!?
I'm a total pipe n00b, there's certainly a bigger learning curve with them.
