I have gone through about two dozen of these from three or four lots purchased over the period Mid 2015 to perhaps March 2016. I don't know if I have ever had a cigar in this or even at bargain prices with such inconsistent construction and a very poor cap. It doesn't matter what I cut the cap with - a punch or a good quality guillotine. I even make sure I dampen the cap a bit to try to keep it in place -no dice. The wrapper nearly always comes unwound, and it is so thin it's impossible to wet and reapply. I keep them in the humi at 69-70 percent, so they should not be dried out or brittle. most of them have been in the humi for two or three months, minimum. The irony is that IF I can keep one together, it's a decent smoke, and the filler seems well packed, with a consistent, even ash. I'm stumped. I smoke several other Gurkha styles, and such issues are rare. Anyone else have this problem with that cigar?

Not with that cigar, because I don't smoke them.

But it's a recurrent issue with any and all the gurkhas I ever had. So, I learned and quit even bothering with the band.

Junk cigars.

Rolls Royces break down a lot, are high maintenance and promise more than they deliver. Sounds about right.

Ah a noob after my own heart!

Nothing wrong with going for the cheaper cigars when starting out, especially if your hobby budget can't support pricier ones. That said, most internet Gurkhas are "shop brands"-kind of like generics at the grocery store. While some are ok yard gars, there are many more better made and better smoking cigars on the auctions at $3-$5 a 5er, so you can stock up, try more than one of each brand and find some you like. Buy samplers too, then 5ers of what you like.

Protocol around here is to not list too many of your favorites to keep from getting them bid up while also sharing advice, and also I'm fairly well stocked right now, so here goes:

La Estrella Cubano (even Quick Buy is 1.60 each)
Mark Twain (I haven't tried maduro yet, looks good)
Dark Shark
5 Vegas (warning-some seem to have asbestos binders and WILL.NOT.BURN)
Victor Sinclair (not my fave, but some love them as yard gars)
Flor Del Todo (AKA Flor Del DooDoo to some)
C'est La Vie (got a bundle for $.60 a piece that easily outsmokes most Gurkhas for yard work)
John Bull

Yeah, these are all cheap, but instead of the hype to be disappointed with a Gurkha, these are good coolerdor fillers and also inexpensive enough that I can bail on one that isn't smoking right and don't have to feel like I gotta nub it. Most Gurkhas I've had in the last year or so weren't worth finishing, while LECs and Dark Sharks I often do.

But YMMV

Note that the Genghis Khan has been around awhile and may have gone the way of other older Gurkhas and may be being reproduced under license and not be the same cigar it once was. I have also experienced some problems with some of them and was not impressed by them.

The original Genghis Khan was a fantastic cigar. And they were available here at cbid at a steal of a price.

Those days are gone.
