That whole "wasted vote" idea is a bunch of nonsense.

"Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos!"

To me, if you continue giving your vote to the same 2 parties (1 party) year after year and you still expect things to change, it is YOU who are wasting YOUR vote.

And there really is just 1 party. Ask yourself this: If Democrats and Republicans are really so ideologically opposed to each other, why does every really big piece of legislation always miraculously seem to get passed? Anything that puts more power in the hands of government, takes power away from the people, destroys our civil liberties, gives our tax dollars to corporations, gives our tax dollars to foreign countries, continues the perpetual war machine....etc. etc.....all that stuff miraculously seems to get passed. These people are frauds. They are all buddies! They went to the same Ivy League schools. Their kids go to private schools together. They are members of the same country clubs. They get money from the same corporations. A lot of their families are intermarried. They are only enemies when there is a camera on them and a microphone in front of their faces.

Our political system is the f**king WWE.

I have always voted third party and would continue to do so even if I knew with 100% certainty that a third party candidate would never ever win. Why? Because it only takes 10 minutes of my time to go to a polling station, vote AGAINST the 2 major parties, and tell them to f**k off. It's worth it to me. Beer

I vote third party mostly.

Yes I am one of those. I remember my grandfather telling someone, years ago, " A vote for the lessor of two evils, is still a vote for evil."

Not simply vote third party. I feel that just weakens your side.

You would actually affix your name to supporting one of the two major parties?

I can't fathom that.

Question: What to do about current state of sorry political affairs
Answer: Vote third party & sweep out fossilized, self serving dinosaurs
Problem: Libertarian- minded Republicans more prone to doing so than mainstream Democrats who tend to be somewhat Progressive & stay the line within the party. Reagan(R) being the exception. He actually swayed normally loyal Democrats to vote for him.
Example: Note Cuccinelli (R) vs. McCauliffe (D) race in Virginia- third party Libertarian candidate drawing votes from Republican bloc, thus almost assuring Democrat upset victory due to split vote on 11/5/13. It can be argued that Perot did same to Bush Sr. AND Dole allowing Slick to waltz in both times. Exception being Ralph Nader's Green Party vote in Florida which may have had some deleterious effect on Ozone Gore's Democrat margin by sapping liberal votes & enabling the affable buffoon Bush jr. to prevail.

...and that's exactly what happened, a sleazy, snake oil Clinton operative is now governor of Virginia thanks to mostly No. Virginia carpetbaggers who voted Libertarian.
Well done, Virginians. Now prepare for more taxes, job outsourcing to Asia, plenty of carbon credits for thriving green businesses, and a few unnecessary road construction projects also subsidized by Tarp.Applause

Hope and Change, Virginia style.

Meanwhile, in Pittsburgh 85% of the voters favored Bill Peduto, yet another Democrat (the last Republican mayor of Pittsburgh left office in 1934) who pledged to make Pittsburgh 'the next great American city' by investing in and renewing the neighborhoods. Read Section 8, HUD, and so on.

Hope and Change, Allegheny County style.

I will not be blackmailed into voting for another old guard republican. If a dead dog runs against Lindsey Graham in SC it will get my vote.

PS: If it is humanly possibly, I dislike the democrat party even more.

The problem is that The Republican and Democrat Parties are the 3rd and 4th party.

We don't need to get rid of the Parties we need to get rid of the Clowns who hijacked the parties,,

Republicans you are the Party of Linclon , Eisenhour and Reagan

Democrats you are Party of Kennedy and Roosevelt

Throw out these pretenders and restore the pride in your party principles and our country !

The corrupt Virginia Democrat beat the "nice pro-life Republican" by only 8,500 votes...
The soccer moms voted socialist (again). The Libertarians screwed him. The Republican party abandoned him but now celebrate the RINO pos in NJ.

Oh well. voters act like scum, now they'll get treated like scum.Applause Frying pan

You would think, Jack, but I think once our Constitution was practically abandoned in lieu of political correctness, bogus feel good issues, and corrupt cronyism all was lost. It was so gradual, we just didn't realize it until it was too late. Now the trolls have emerged from under the bridge and have taken over in public sight.

I really don't give a damn other than the better candidate and a good man was beaten by a slimy Clinton political operative.
But the people voted him in so now they can suffer the ramifications of their actions like children who play with matches. They want to turn Virginia into paradises like DC and Maryland.

You forget I live in Maryland. We have left-wing cafeteria lady trolls running this state into the ground. Been that way mostly since Mandel and Spiro. So you see, all we get are corrupt Democrat wannabe Republicans or the usual liberal Chesapeake Democrat flotsam.

In your honor, Mr. Fencepost, I will say that this illegal sanctuary sate is geographically beautiful & does good things for the poor, dispossessed, aged, young, and infirm. So it's not all bad. We pay for it with taxes from a Government populace that likes the short commute and an ever- shrinking business community.

As opposed to an extremist (yes, I used that word) social conservative who wants to regulate peoples' personal behaviour? Virginia was screwed either way. I'm glad the Libertarian got 7% of the vote. Hopefully the Libertarian candidate will get 14% of the vote in the next election.

The tea party has purpose as a fringe group that hopefully never gets the power to govern but does influence the governing party enough to get some fiscal responsibility.... ie they are best as an influence. They are a whacky radical bunch that would destroy the country in order to save it. They really are not the grass roots bunch they started as and are guided by their own puppet masters.

Well, I voted for Savis and I'd do it again -- in fact, maybe I should have.

I do wish he'd gotten 10%, however. Regardless of which other numbskull won. I couldn't bring myself to vote for Cooch and the 'Christian Coalition' or whatever they're called nowadays. I gotta agree with TW -- Tea Party's success will be limited to raising the debt/spending dialog; but as long as they continue to paint themselves as extreme and/or obstructionist, their days are numbered -- or at least their influence is limited.

For years, going into major elections, I'd read up on issues and platforms. I've always felt that the Libertarian positions appealed very strongly to me. And them, I'd come to find out that nearly all their candidates turned out to be kooks, and I'd end up voting R. Not the case with Sarvis. Good guy who I'd be more than happy to support in the future.

Well, Sunshine (wherever you are, Bloody), I'm agonizing once again. Cliff Hyra is a Libertarian candidate in the VA governor's race who seems to be a far cry from the some of the nutjobs of yesteryear. I like him and will vote for him, despite the fact that he'll be lucky to get 5% of the vote --- and, maybe more importantly, prolly equal to the gap between the near-Socialist Dem Northam, and the uninspiringly boring Gillespie. Unlike some races (last presidential?), I could vote R with a relatively clear conscience....but I will feel a lot better voting for the Lib who doesn't have a chance.
