2015 Willamette Valley Vineyards Whole Cluster Pinot Noir

Very spicy and rich, paired well with artichokes, Mac n cheese and T Bones. Never had whole cluster before, interesting concept.

2011 Haras de Pirque Hussonet is a cab suav from Chile. Couldn't believe the bottle only costs $10. A must try if you can find it.

Did some research and found a couple ratings. Suckling 95 and Parker 90.

Just finished off a bottle of 2000 Fonseca Vintage Port. Also had some really good Abacus (i.e. ZD Wines top Cab) at a party two weeks ago. Forgot the year but I know it was pretty close to it's peak. Thankfully, the host bought it. fog

2 buck Chuck Cab Sav

Haven't had any Charles Shaw in a while and have had folks trying to teach me about wine, so thought I'd compare it to recent Cabs

Finished the 2 buck Chuck, not bad but definitely no complexity compared to a ten dollar or so bottle I had last weekend.

Very nice, smooth as silk, deep elegant fruit in the background, very interesting nose of spices and vanilla. Great with food when young, pairs very well with pork. Sipped on its own it needs a couple years age for the tannins to round out.

Try

19 Crimes The Warden.

Red blend

I rated this today and folks were really pleased. It's a bit more expensive than the other products from 19 Crimes.

I think y'all will enjoy it

I'm an admitted petite sirah fanboy. From $5 to $55, never had a bad bottle. And it ages so beautifully.

2015 Comforts on Whidbey

Brought this one back from a recent trip/wine tasting on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound. A white made from 100% Madeleine Angevine grapes grown locally. Tastes close to a Sauvignon Blanc with crisp tropical/citrus notes. Pretty good.

Used to have a unit that held 400+ but it took up too much space in a bedroom. Sold it and bought my current Vinotemp which only holds 120.

This is in the basement. Built a small walk in wine cellar and a small walk in humidor about 8 years ago. Nothing fancy but both very functional.

revisited the idea of finding a red to chill...
here is how the label reads

Karl Pfaffmann
Walsheim
Pfalz
2015
Spatburgunderr
Bischofskreuz . Trocken

knowing better, I still started sipping right away, then sipped about every 4 or 5 minutes after that until just cooler than room temp. Way beefier than roses. Some good fruit, some tannins but maybe just a bit out of balance...

I dunno, Allen, I liked it. Had it along side a hodgepodge dinner...Moroccan Spiced chickpea soup (homemade), marinated chicken breast, steamed zuke and broccoli, jarred spicy pickled vegetables, and a few stuffed grape leaves (meatless).

So Spey, tell me what I really had cuz it tasted a lot like some heavier weight pinot noirs I have had lately as it approached room temp.

Karl Pfaff Mann is the winery. Walsheim is the sub growing region, probably a village. Pfalz is the region, on the Rhine river. Spatburgunder is Pinot Noir. Bischofskreuz is a vineyard. Bischofskreuz translates to bishops Cross. Troken is dry.

The Pfalz is primarily a Rising growing region. A little to hot for Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir would be a bit unbalanced. Not enough acidity due to being to warm.

Grapes lose acidity out of the bottom of the grape leaf when the temp is over 70 degrees f. In good Pinot Noir regions the night time temp will dip below 70 degrees f, and the pores on the back side of the leaf close.

I think this wine probably pared well with the spices. On its own it seemed a little unbalanced. If you enjoyed this wine, search out an Alsacian Pinot Noir. It will be similar, but with better balance due to higher acidity.

Valley View Syrah 2012.

Lady and I took the first day of school off (Tuesday ) and went wine tasting. Valley View had a buy 2 get one free deal. Their wine is good, not great.

We went to Red Lily after, they have an AMAZING Tempranillo. Also got a bottle of their Verdejo. A little young and sweet but an engaging finish.

that makes so much sense.
Would you try that Alsacian chilled?

2014 Lechthales Pinot Nero ( Pinot Noir ), Trentino, Italy.
So I had to pull out a non traditional region Pinot Noir and chill it after your question Frank. It was very nice with a Blackberry nose, dark Cherry fruit on the pallet, a velvety mouth feel, and a soft round structure. I chilled it 5 minutes using a bucket with water and ice. Probably the equivalent of an hour in the fridge.

2013 Montes Alpha Pinot Noir, Chile.
Big, rich, great dark red fruit. More depth than I expected. Probably due to ungrafted vines.

vintages...they explained it on the label...pretty good rose, but then again I am partial to roses from pinot noir. This one was not as pale nor as dry as others.

2013 Trader Joe's reserve Paso Robles Syrah lot 100. Much more complex than I expected from a $10 bottle. That could be due to the Petit Verdot and Malbec in the blend. Big, rich, smokey, brambley, and textured. Kind of reminds me of a Gigondas. I am enjoying this with a cheese plate and smoked ham. Definitely a wine I would recommend.

2008, Royal Tokaji, Assxu, 5 Puttonyes, Hungary.
The best dessert wine I have had in a long time.
Tropical fruit, with a little white grapefruit to balance it out. A nose of white peach and apricot. About 1 minute of finish. So rich and treacley the mouth feel is glycerin like.

It paired great with fresh Bosc pears that were quartered with a light drizzle of honey on them.

hey Spey,
forgot I had this bottle. 2014 Borsao Garnacha. Has the little triangle things but the label does not say Tres Picos.

But this is a good bottle and the sticker says $8.99...have no idea why I didn't buy a few.

Went well with some pizza shop veal parm with ziti, despite subtle fruit. Nice on it's own later, too.

Lady and I went to a new to me (not her) vinyard in the yuppie town of Ashland (or as we call it, South Eugeneistan)

Did the red flight, one red white mix, one Tempranillo, one Malbec, one Mourverde. Malbec and Tempranillo were good the Mourverde was very good and they thought so too ($!!).

Now eating tacos from a roach coach with Valley View Vineyards Syrah.
