Well the article looks spot on to me.

And it is no surprise that so many would be so marinated in their own opinions and the opinions that are given to them that they never have reason to look up and really question things. Especially since their slants are being so artfully and emotionally portrayed in the infotainment media. It just feels too good.

From what I have seen here - even over simple points of high school science - people believe what they want to and reason just is not employed. It is after all, so much easier than finding the courage to embrace the facts.
