Want to smoke cigars at the movie theater? No, you don't have to travel back in time to the 1950s!

Wait till the warm months arrive, then just visit your local drive-in theater! Watch new, first-run movies on the big screen through glorious, fragrant clouds of cigar smoke!

Haven't been able to do THAT in conventional theaters in decades! Drive-ins are a CIGAR LOOPHOLE, baby! Suck on that, "pleasure police"!

Popcorn, chili dog, Coke, movie, CIGAR!

Heh-heh. I know, right? I've been into cigars for many many years and this idea just never really occurred to me before now! It was a real head-slapping moment. What the hell TOOK me so long?

As for the sound quality, it depends. If your local drive-in has FM stereo and you have a premium car sound system, the sound can be quite nice indeed. Picture quality, well look, you get to chain-smoke fine cigars during the show... I think you can live with the picture quality! As for mosquitoes, that's what the SMOKE is for, it drives the little bastards away!

I just happen to have the ultimate drive-in vehicle, a BIG convertible with four FULL-SIZE seats and plenty of room for four big, tall, fat adults to sit in comfort for hours. I'll have to round up three cigar pals and do the drive-in thing this spring!

The only drive in theater I know of is no-smoking on premises.

Bummer. My local one allows smoking. Actually my area has a LOT MORE smokers (mostly cigarette smokers) than whiny "pleasure police" liberals, so the drive-in probably figures they'd lose a BIG net chunk of their business if they banned smoking.

Alienating 15% of your customers to please 0.5% of them is a bad business move, luckily for us!

Depends on your area though. In a big city area crawling with whiny liberal activists, forget it, smoking will be banned at drive-ins.

And if you wanna take it up a notch, movie projectors have recently come way down in price... i can literally think of no reason to go see a movie at a movie theatre... even a drive in... even movies that are still in theatres are easily accessible online...

Yup no reason at all, watched Star Wars Rogue 1 or whatever on my jailbroke firestick with some guy's head in the picture the entire time just like I would have if I was at the theater.

Have HD projector in the basement, built a 10' screen for video games and movies.

Prices really came down, thinking of putting one in my garage to replace the laptop screen.

No such thing a drive-in movie theater out here. No smoking of any kind in public view, or on Forestry Service or BLM land.

That's where we're headed. Kalifornia is making it easier to be a pothead than enjoy one of the plants that built this country.

Car interiors are just too cramped now, I'm afraid. They're like a jet cockpit, instead of your living room couch. Sucks.

cacman - you're right, not many drive ins left anywhere, even here in CA ... but as for lighting up in public view or doing so on Forestry land, I do so in the Rockies multiple times daily for a few weeks every summer ...

bur - unbelievably, you're exactly right ...

Used to have the bench seat from a 1982 Olds Delta 88 bolted to the floor in my living room

What time-warp corner of which universe do you live in, that they still have drive-in movie theatres?

Local drive in here only allows smoking in your vehicle or in designated areas. I may push the be in your vehicle part by smoking while sitting in the bed of my truck.

It's got two screens, no less! They run simultaneously, each showing a double-feature for one price ($8 adults, $5 kids)! It's on the banks of a nice river, and is surrounded by tall mountains covered in trees. You can get there early, while it's still light, and enjoy the view of nature while you puff your cigar. A convertible helps, of course, to look around and up at the mountains and sky freely.

I hope it never closes, because I've heard of how apparently rare such a thing is!

You can also bend such rules with a convertible, with the top down. Luckily though, my local drive-in has no smoking-related rules at all, as far as I know. We have a lot of cigarette devotees around my region, it seems!
