^ Carmenere is the 30%. It is a grape that is similar to Merlot, but it has much more flavor. I have heard it referred to as Merlot on steroids. It is indigenous to Chile.

This is our favorite vinyard, and they don't distribute at all...found a store out their way (but not as far) that had this WAY cheaper than the vinyard and covered in dust and older than what's available at the vinyard. They're pretty much a member supported place.

Very fruity black cherry and a boozy finish (14.5%) and a very pleasant taste as that boozyness subsides.

Hot stuff @ 14.5%

not a big cab, not much in the way of fruit forward going on here, but nice with soft tannins if any at all. IIRC I stole this for 9 bones.

Where did you buy it?

been a while, but maybe on Rt 16 in Newton on the Wellesley line, Newton Upper Falls Wine perhaps. Red building a couple blocks in from Rt 95.

Possibly Wegmans, the one in Westwood on University Ave, not the one in Chestnut Hill

Maybe even Whole Foods at Legacy Place in Dedham.

It is pretty reasonable for Wente stuff.

last night I opened it to have with a little lasagna, tonight I finished it with some chicken in sesame/soy/ginger vinaigrette with steamed cauliflower which I sparked up with Hank's Heat Hot Sauce that I got from Shaun.

Believe it or not, I liked this chianti better with the chicken!

That makes sense actually. Chianti has a relatively high acidity. So it would pair up great with the vinaigrette, the ginger, and the hot sauce. Also that particular Chianti is light enough that it would match the chicken well.

Typically I'm not a wine guy, but I'm learning.

Tasted some fantastic Rose this month that caused some excitement

Minuty Rose. French from Provance. Super soft and delicate. Pale in color and light on the nose and finish

Cline ancient vines rose. Tons of red fruit on the nose. Very fruit forward. Slightly acidic. shockingly in your face for a rose, but in such a good way.

Both were hits but the Cline was an in the park Home Run

Also 19 Crimes launched a Shiraz. Nice, easy to drink. It was what I expected.

Riding to our land this evening my son tells me that he's studying all about the Holocost It was a great conversation and I wished for you to tell us more.

Then he said, why are Jews noses so big? I said man I have no idea. He said because the air is free. Then he said, I heard that and it makes no sense to me.
I had to laugh. No offense Frank....you're my brother from another mother.

Nice score on the Gabbiano Mattie. It is a nice entry level Chianti that uses classic Chianti grapes. Most of your flavor is from the Sangiovese. Colorino is blended in to give a darker color. Canaiolo softens the blend.

yeah, it's an old joke ...why are Jews' noses big? Because air is free.

You tell me why this is something that you need to discuss with him.

It wasn't a discussion bud. I guess he heard the joke but didn't get it.

The discussion was about the Jews during WW2. That's what I was wishing you had been with us to share some insight.

I won't bother with the tasting notes. But I can say, it's what a solid Pinot should be.

Very nice. Give it a try.

I scanned back a few posts and noticed mention of Chianti and I happen to be drinking a 2012 Riserva DOCG from Villa Cafaggio.
It's nice.
Aged 24 months in oak.
The best part?

..paid I think? $10 for it at Costco.
That's friggin' unheard of for a 100% Sangiovese DOCG.
Get it while you can if you like Chianti.

That was a classic in the worst way. Remember the blue nun, and Paul Mason commercials? I loved the mason commercial that said we will sell no wine before it's paid for. It was a take off from we will sell no wine before it's time, but I don't remember who did that one.

Without looking through the entire post here, has anyone had a " mixed red " from Chile called Siegel 1234 Red Blend ? The write up on it sounds decent and it is rated @ 90

Siegel 1234 Red Blend..... From the site:

This juicy red screams, Light the Grill! Another steal you shouldn’t miss. Hard to find a 90 pt. rated wine for less than $8.50!! A nose of black currant, smoke, violet, and black olives entice you into the glass; dark fruit, nice tannins, a hint of smoke…..and juicy, juicy, juicy! Another sip and you’ll be looking for the Brisket and Baby Backs!

http://www.kysela.com/wine/wine-brand/siegel-reserve/siegel-reserve-red-blend-1234/2015-siegel-reserve-red-blend-1234.html

I'm thinking about giving it a whirl but thought I'd ask the connoiseurs first fog

UPDATE

Thanks to Allen ( Speyside ) for replying, gonna give it a shot.

2010 Concannon Petite Syrah. A gift from long ago that I rediscovered in our "cellar" and, when young, at least, not particularly good. 7 years has made a huge difference. I know PS is a varietal that stands up to time, but I figured an inexpensive brand would have been a waste. I was wrong. Very nice.
