Gotta want to quit .... if it's part of your self image, quitting ain't likely ... you have to somehow re-imagine yourself and form a self image that doesn't include dip (or cigarettes or whatever) ... I cannot tell you how to actually DO that, but somehow doing so is critical to success ...

I am in the quitting process. Quitting cold turkey just didn't do it so I am cutting back until I can cut it altogether. I started out at 15 pouches per day (a whole tin...mostly because I would do two at a time). Last week I went down to like 10-11 and this week I am at 6-7...it is going well so far. Either late this week or early next I want to cut to 5 then 4 then 2 then hopefully 0. It may take a month or so but if it works it is worth the wait. Thanks for asking.

Decided to tell the wife about the chewing habit...that went over well....

...at least it is helping me actually work towards quitting. Almost 4 full days with no chew. Praying that I can keep this up and have one less thing to worry about in my life.

She was pretty pissed, mostly that I kept it from her for so long. Supposedly she isn't going to divorce me over it..as long as I quit...haha.

Seriously though, the only things she would divorce me for is cheating, beating or drugs. Everything else is fair game...oh, except if I ever try to stick it her butt...which is okay though because fudge packing sounds pretty gross to me.

good work - now just be done

you are maintaining the nicotine via cigars now and again so other than the physical and psychological aspects (which are hardest) you should be good to go

That's not even real Nicotine. That's nicotine flavored candy. Go get you a can of Copenhagen original and dip a can and a half a day. Then try quitting that. I thoughts cigs was tough. But I whooped them both. Cig free for 7 years dip free for 7 months.

Honestly Hank, how I quit was I became an oral hygiene fanatic.
What I mean, is I would get a dip craving, and instead of in packing a hawg nut, I would go and brush my teeth.
And would keep a dozen cinnamon flavored toothpicks in my pocket. Always picking.

Sounds like it's more of a physical thing. Are you a fidgety person...? Meaning do you always have to be doing two or more things at once?

Can't drive without talking on phone, or dipping, or both?
I am, ADHD perhaps? Don't sweat it if you are. Ole' Hillbilly is your run of the mill Multi-tasker, over achiever. And I where my ADD patch with pride. And with this personality it is really easy to over indulge.....

What I'm saying. Don't use it as a crutch, and it won't feel like such a vice to let go.

Stick with the quit. You need some more cigars?

See you have to find another bad habit to replace it with:pSarcasm

At a week now. Still sucks but think I am done for good. I have been doing a lot of gum, hard candies and sunflower seeds. I also have some fake chew on the way to help with just that feeling of something in my lip. Not sure if it will really help but giving it a try.

I have actually heard that about the brushing thing. Maybe I will give that a try too.

Thanks for the support.

I did get some cigars in last night, which helped a little too.
